A little late on the response, but BU has been killing it on the recruiting trail. In fact, this last years (2016) class might have been one of the best all-time in college hockey.  Time will tell, but from a high end recruit stand point, they crushed it this year. I would love to see if ANY college program has had more than 3 first rounders in one draft.

@THNRyanKennedy: 2017 prospect Cameron Crotty (D) has committed to Boston U.

Yeah I'm gonna stick with my earlier statement that BU and Quinn are killing it on the recruiting trail. Anyone who says no is kidding themselves.

If I remember right he put Boeser with Pogo and Gardner and Jost with Gersich and Yon?

However, my cup was filled with the shooters I had snuck into Amsoil so my memory is a bit foggy.

Plus, I'd rather not remember those games either :)

He just switched Boeser and Pogo. They weren't playing together.

I agree with that you're saying, but Smith has played one game and needs to make it a trend before he all but replaces a guy like Olson who has been around for awhile. I like Trevor's game.

This is a GREAT problem to have, by the way :)

I agree it's only one game but I've seen Olson for much more than that and I just don't think he brings much. Just my opinion.

Smith does not have the skill to play on the heavy line IMO.  Gardner and Pogo are NHL draft picks.  It is not about a big body line...its about a line that can play puck possession, keep the puck in the other team's end, and score.  That's why I like Wilkie as the 3rd forward on that line, let him shoot.  The Euros are the ones that need a big body to help them out in the corners and net front.  I see a lot of similarity between LJ and Wilkie...I'd put Wilkie on that line.

Smith to me appears to be a little better skating Olson.

    Very simple we have:

    1. First line will be intact

    2.  Second line we have Gardner and Pogo with great chemistry

    3.  Third line we have Hoff and JJ with great chemistry

    4.  Bowen and Yon appear to be the right combo

    That leaves:

Wilkie- drafted, elite goal scorer in junior

Simo- rock solid, good two way player, wears an "A"

Olson- big boy with net front

Smith- big boy with lots of physical tools

Gornall- contributes when given the chance

I'd put Wilkie on line 2, Simo on line 3, and have the remaining 3 duke it out (primarily with each other) but also with Bowen and Yon for the 4th line.

I would say those two statements contradict each other quite a bit!

Hearing that D-man Cameron Crotty (2017 draft) is looking at Boston U, Boston College and North Dakota. He was a St. Lawrence commit

He was in for his visit this weekend. A friend sat next to him and his father and he said they have already visited the Boston schools. Said on his visit they went to a Red Sox-Yankees game at Fenway. Maybe a reason BU and Quinn are killing it on the recruiting trail.

Is there any chance the coaches throw smith in with Pogo and Gardner? I really liked his play, and have heard nothing but good things about him. Throw wilkie with the europeans, kick Yon back with Olson and Bowen, and sit Simo down.

I like what I saw from Smith and think he would fit great with Pogo and Gardner. That would be one tough line to play against. Like everyone agrees, leave JJ and Hoff together with Wilkie and have Simo center the 4th line with Bowen and Yon. I would imagine Olson would still be in the lineup somewhere but I'm just not big on him. His skating holds him back.

Perhaps the reason that they made the move on Kawaguchi is because they saw the writing on the wall for Bowers going elsewhere.  I guess we'll see.  Would be nice to have that problem with Bowers coming.

Do we know if Bowers has visited here even? From the sounds of it, he is an eastern kid and plans on heading east to play which is why the Bostons are the favorites.

The X is available??  Then why would the NCHC even consider the Target Center!  The Xcel is a hockey first venue, and a very nice one at that.  St. Paul is a hockey town, and we've always enjoyed the area around the arena before and after games.  If the vast majority of players and fans prefer the X, that should take precedence over some kind of "branding" opportunity for the league in Minneapolis. Lots of folks I know who travel all over during the season and postseason are talking about skipping the NCHC tourney.  If UND fans don't support it, who will?

I believe it was originally signed as a 5-year deal with an opt-out after 3 but don't quote me on that. We are now entering year 4 so obviously no opt-out and like I mentioned in an earlier post I believe I have heard that Fenton is in the process of negotiating a new deal with TC.

I have attended every WCHA and now NCHC Final 5 since 2000 I believe. This year it is going to be a coin flip as to whether I attend or not. Most of the group I usually go with have all expressed a less than overwhelming desire to attend another hockey game at the Target Center.

Yes it is getting much more difficult for me finding people to attend each year as well and I'm getting close to not going myself. There should be an email chain sent to the NCHC and Fenton stating the desire to move the tourney to the X.

  10. I understand the NCHC wanted to differentiate itself from the WCHA and Big Ten by having the conference tourney at the Target Center and it sounds like Fenton is negotiating a new contract with the TC to continue to have the tourney there. I'm sorry but it worked for the time it needed to but if the X is available (which it is) the NCHC would be crazy not to jump all over it. As I've said before, St. Paul is a hockey town and Minneapolis is not. The Target Center can do all the renovations it wants but it will never be half the arena the X is. Not to mention the quality of the playing surface makes the games difficult to watch. The costs for tickets and hotels would most certainly go up but sign me up for that. I have to think that moving to the X would generate larger crowds as well. NCHC make it happen!

  11. Anyone know if NBC's Ryder Cup coverage will get interrupted by the Bison football game tomorrow afternoon? As of now my guide says Ryder Cup but I know in the past I get Bison football and it really pisses me off! Saturday afternoon matches always seem to be the most pivotal and exciting.

Finland in a 2-0 hole to Russia in the second. Gaborik hits pipe for Finland and of course Russia goes back to back with goals. Not looking good for Team North America to make next round unless the Finns can come back and win this thing.

When did Gaborik become Finish? Did he open enroll from Slovakia?

Are the NA young guns picked before the country teams?  Can't believe McDavid is not on Canada's team,  not sure who he'd replace on the loaded Canadian roster,  but imo he is the best forward in this tournament.

The Canadian and American teams weren't allowed to take any player 23 and under.

  14. I wish I could say I'm surprised by the result but when I saw the roster decisions along with the head coaching decision I didn't have much hope. Thank goodness most of the American young guns on the North American team will (or at least should) be on the 2018 Olympic roster. Not sure who the coach should be though.
