  1. Tournament consolidations have lowered expenses, a necessity because attendance has dropped steadily. The state hockey championship game typically averaged 6,000 fans before 2002, when it attracted a record crowd of 9,191 under a perfect storm of conditions. It was the arena's first year, so there was curiosity. Secondly, the only way to see the game in real time was in the arena because the Olympics were shown live while the game was tape-delayed. And, the championship matched Grand Forks Central and Grafton, teams with big followings. Since then, tournament attendance has declined. "In recent years, the championship game has attracted fewer than 4,000 people," Olson said. "But, all of our tournaments are down. There are fewer and fewer people in rural North Dakota." http://www.grandforksherald.com/content/fewer-state-hockey-tourneys-coming-grand-forks Definitely Minot is not big enough. So nevermind.
  2. And that second sheet of ice at Scheels is much better than the Olympic sized rink at REA. The seating is way better and the boards are lively. They did it right.
  3. I believe 2400. What is the attendance for a state championship game?
  4. Minot will be pushing for it now since they have their new arena up.
  5. I'm with you. The season gets salvaged these next 2 weekends.
  6. Played in that state tourney. Central or RR beat us in the opening round 7-1. That championship game was epic. Both goalies stood on their heads.
  7. Be shocked if it isn't.
  8. Well said. I'll be there for the opening round. Will miss the rest as I will be in the cities for my daughters Cobber playoff game with Augsburg. Have yet to see Central. Wish it was a better matchup though. Think Bismarck is just a little to deep for DL plus they have state tourney experience. RR will have no problem with Century. Minot and Davies is a coin flip.
  9. Ain't gonna happen
  10. Yep this is his last year of his contract. http://undhockey.areavoices.com/?p=91311
  11. I'll go with Central, Minot, Bismarck, and Red River
  12. Winners: DL, Davies, Central, Dickinson, Century, Bismarck
  13. Lose at home to Ohio St 4-2. This has to be Idalski's last season. Has to be.
  14. Final 3-2 Williston
  15. Nope. Starts at the top 3-2 halfway through the third
  16. Williston 3 Jamestown 1 after 2
  17. Williston 1 Jamestown 0 after 1
  18. Century 7 Mandan 0
  19. Wild have only lost 2 games in a row this year in regulation since Nov 5. They avoid doing it again by dispatching the Stars 3-1 tonight. Kuemper looked great between the pipes
  20. Minot 7 Bottineau 3
  21. Dickinson 6 Jamestown 2 final. Dickinson was the much better team. Won all the one on one battles. Embarrassing effort by the Jays.
  22. Heading over to Bismarck for Jamestown/Dickinson game at 1:15. This one can go either way.
  23. Nyquist only gets a 6 game suspension for damn near taking out Spurgeons eye. NHL is a joke when it comes to suspensions.
  24. Without a doubt. I had the privilege of coaching him when he was a bantam. Most intense player I ever coached in my 30 bplus years of coaching. Have golfed with him in the past. Another sport he's good at. Arguably the best all around athlete from our state.
