  1. 6,000+ posts, SiouxSports.com hockey hats, setting up the annual Hoggsbreath get-togethers of Sioux hockey fans...and I get the 'I thought Mafia was a Sioux fan?' loyalty question earlier? Then you totally blow a head gasket at keikla? I don't know what YOU'RE talking about...

Come on...we all know you try to pick these little fights just so you can get your post count up. :)

Crap. Does that count as a joke? And I just promised that I'd try to stay away from those!

  2. There are a couple bars right by the DU campus (can't remember names), but your best bet for going out post-game is in the downtown/16th St mall area. It's a quick and easy lightrail ride from DU. For hotels, I strongly recommend either staying downtown or somewhere very close to a lightrail station. It's significantly more convenient (even if you aren't drinking) when you don't have to worry about driving everywhere.

  3. Eddie will forever hold a special place in my heart, but it got even deeper when he wore a Sioux jersey to a game that his own flesh and blood started against the Sioux.

I wonder if he was secretly cheering for the Sioux. Had to be. But glad his kid played well too.

That was actually an Eddie impersonator

  4. Dumb question time. How many of the incoming recruits for 14 and 15 have signed letters? When is the earliest they can sign if they have not signed as of yet? Dumb question number two. Are these guys Chyzk, Sanderson, Panzerella, and Senkbeil good enough to play anywhere else? Maybe they would be happy to just stay and finish school and be part of the program. Years ago this use to be the case with a lot of guys.

This crossed my mind, too. When you're being brought in at the last minute because someone like JT Miller bolted, is this something that gets discussed? For all we know, the coaches talked to them about the opportunities available right away (with the open roster) but made it plainly clear that getting playing time might prove to be more difficult once more top-tier recruits came in a year or two down the road. Some might get restless and jump ship, but I wouldn't be surprised if many of them stick around just to be part of the program.

I remember being surprised when Cichy transferred because he had said during his freshman year that even without playing in games he was getting so much better just by practicing with a team of this caliber. That ended up not being enough for him, but it very well might be enough for some of these guys.

  5. Assuming the underdog role? Could actually work well for the team. When was the last time a UND team was actually an underdog in their own conference?

I would consider the 2012 injury-plagued team to be an underdog. They won a TON of games, but based on paper statistics/shortened line-up, etc. they technically shouldn't have won near as many as they did...especially as the season wore on.

  6. Considering that he was the top college player in the country and Salzburg is equivalent to the ECHL I would agree scpa.

Granted, I only saw one game in Salzburg, but I would put the quality above the several Colorado Eagles games I've attended. Definitely not up to the AHL, but above ECHL.

Don't get me wrong....huge Duncan fan here. I'm just saying, he didn't do much....it's due to his size. I have a buddy that played with giroux during the lockout and he averaged over a pt per game through 4 years of college and he'll even say that Europe is nothing on an 82 game season in the pros. Everyone has mad skill over there but your body dictates if you can hang in an NHL season.

I'm not saying Europe has anything on the NHL...I realize how different the talent level and schedules are.

I guess I never really expected to see Duncan in the NHL. I expected him to be a career AHLer or Europe player, primarily due to his size. So, I think he's done fairly well after college. I'd be more likely to apply the "didn't do much" label to someone like Brady Murray (who has roughly the same experience now as Duncan...one year AHL, several years Europe), merely because I expected more out of Brady in the first place.

  7. Duncan didn't do much though after UND. Low lever pros....I skate in the summers with a lot of those type of players. In a men's league game they dominate but the NHL is a whole different monster.

He's played in Salzburg for several years and played a year for the Portland Pirates in the AHL. It's definitely not the NHL, but I hardly think that qualifies as "didn't do much."

  8. I heard last night on NHL Network that Chara was probably hurt as well.

By the time the playoffs reach the finals, I think you'd be hard pressed to find many players who aren't battling injuries. I just love the willingness to battle through (as opposed to basketball players, etc).

  9. I don't like the regional in Fargo, ND idea. It's not big enough. 5000 seats isn't a big enough arena. Might as well just go to the Xcel Energy Center.

Fargo isn't ideal because of the smaller arena. But if it's the Xcel, then Minnesota hosts, not the Sioux. And while it's likely the NCAA would throw us both in that regional, it's also possible that the Sioux still get sent out east when there's a regional there.
