  1. Looked great on both my laptop hdmi to TV and the iPhone app.

Jayson, was the freeze at about 8:48 left in the third another system wide thing?

Based on questions/comments in the live chat, yes. Mine froze then as well.

  2. Thoughts from the game:

    1) Very impressed with Stecher's play. He was very noticeable (in a positive way), which is hard to do as a freshman defenseman.

    2) Not at all impressed with Mattson. He was very noticeable, but in a negative way. I'm still hoping he pulls out of his 'sophomore slump,' but this game was not a good start.

    3) I think Johnson is going to be a very dynamic player. He also has some good chemistry with Parks.

    4) Rocco is amazing. His goal was sick, and he did most of the leg work for Caggiula's goal. 4 points in the first game of the season? Not bad.

    5) Can't blame Saunders for the first goal, as I think it deflected off two different players on its way to the net. But he definitely didn't look sharp. He's lucky his misplay behind the net didn't lead to an additional goal.

    6) That's probably the best OD has looked in awhile. I'm glad he got the goal; hopefully, he'll get a little breathing room from the fans.

    7) We were so spoiled by Knight's ridiculous face-off abilities. It's going to take some time to get used to not winning the vast majority of crucial face-offs.

  3. Is there a highlight video of zach parise at UND around anywhere?

I'm sure you could easily find one by searching on Youtube. There's highlight videos of just about everyone who made it to the NHL.

  4. wouldn't he know going in what the expectations were in going to college? hate seeing guys leave this late in the game.

Probably not. I swam in college at a DII school (translation: significantly less time commitment than D1 hockey) and have always excelled academically, and it was way tougher than I ever expected to balance the two. Even if you can manage the two-a-day practices with classes, etc., it gets even tougher once road trips are involved.

I have tons of respect for all these athletes who manage to dedicate that much time to his or her sport and also excel academically (and even more respect for the ones that do it with a non-cupcake major).

Anyway, I say props to Vanelli for recognizing it so soon into the academic year.

  5. Wow, that's quite a compliment. I'm glad you like it. I think anyone spotted wearing one of these hats is certain to be hit with plenty of 'Hey, where can i get one of those?' questions.

I'm more worried about being identifiable. I should probably start being nicer around here! :)

  6. Nix Omaha and go to Denver!!

I'll think about it! I would much rather go to the DU series, but since I have to drive instead of fly (I'm picking up a dog in Nebraska), January tends to present more weather related problems than early November...I learned that lesson last year when I moved out to northern Maine in mid-January. We hit a blizzard every stinking day!!

  7. That is too early, although one can never tell. I thought the tailgating was for hockey, but after checking the schedule it must be for football. But, you never know. I could be in Grand Forks for football or take another five day trip to Omaha :) for hockey.

If I'm going to be in Nebraska (I'll let you know when I know), I think you should be as well. Hockey > football.

And it better not be another crazy blizzard, or it'll take me forever to get back to Maine!

  8. Time and location please. Will be there with my new hat.

November 9th? Aren't you going to have something more important going on around that time? (Though if you plan on ignoring that 'something' and going to the UNO series instead, let me know cause I might be in Nebraska then).

  9. There's a TON of Sioux alumni/fans in Colorado. I'd say start a thread in 'Tickets' (if there isn't one already) and get a bunch of people to get tickets as a group (thus bypassing the extra tickets rule). Better to put in a little extra effort organizing with other fans than to waste all that extra money paying to watch DU play crap games.

  10. Nice recruiting class breakdown for this year

    http://overtheboards...iting-rankings/

Also this last paragraph stood out. As noted by many here next years class is pretty amazing if they all end up in GF...Go Sioux!

    ....

"There are also three weapons up front in Adam Tambellini, Luke Johnson, and Wade Murphy, as well as an intriguing, talented goaltender in Matt Hrynkiw being added to an already deep (but soon to be less deep) crease. And in case you’re wondering, Coach Hakstol’s class next year is literally shaping up to be one of the best in college hockey. Ever. So there’s that.

For a more in-depth look at this class, our North Dakota Recruiting Preview comes out October 1."

They also added this about next year's incoming class:

    1. North Dakota

Why: Most recruiting classes have one marquee recruit, maybe two. UND has six: Nick Schmaltz, Austin Poganski, Ryan Gropp, Shane Gersich, Ryan Mantha and Chris Wilkie. Trevor Olson and Winnipeg Jets draft pick Tucker Poolman are no slouches either. Suffice it to say the last thing UND is going to be thinking about next season is an identity crisis.
