Maine apparently hoping to have a new hockey coach hired by the time the puck drops next fall...
Gee, you would hope so. If not, they might as well switch Corkum from interim to permanent right now.

I think Jim's counter is wrong. I've been posting over 10 years & have a measely 300+ posts.
Fire Jim!!

Is it possible to look back at the number of points required to win? Like, if the winners had 18 points this year, would that have even placed them in the top 20 last year?
-
I have admittedly been on a tear the past few months but the Goon has an insurmountable lead!
Ha I know how you feel! I feel like I've been posting like crazy over the past few months, and I've only gotten like 150 more! I don't know how some of you do it!!

Nope. They were surprised when I told them he wasn't one of the top four contenders.
Clearly, they don't know much about Gwoz's coaching career. If a school doesn't think a coach like Gwoz is good enough, they sure are heck aren't going to hand over the reigns to a coach like Whitehead.
On a semi-related note, I guess the DU administration finally answered some questions today at the press conference about Montgomery's hiring. Denver Post said they'd have an article up soon.

Does anyone expect Osiecki to pursue another head college job, and if so, will another domino fall now that he may be on the market?
Maybe he'll head up to Anchorage. It's like musical chairs around here.
-
Yesterday, I thought most things were pointing to Gwoz in Maine. Today, I'm not so sure. While he may be at the top of Maine's list, I wouldn't be surprised if Ohio State is at the top of his.

With Christmas right around the corner, I imagine Siouxman would like to order six in black with monikers for himself, mrs. siouxman, morley, mrs. morley, keikla and myself.
What an excellent idea. However, if Siouxman happens to miss this not so subtle hint, then I'll cough up the money for my own. Black, with moniker, please.

Sorry, I thought you meant conference tournament seed.
Yale went 4-0 against the WCHA this year, beating Denver, Colorado College, Minnesota, and North Dakota. Bruce McLeod should do the right thing and FedEx Yale the Broadmoor Trophy.
Just like the Sioux should have received the Beanpot back in 2005?
-
I wonder if the DU bleeding stops now that a new head coach is named. Montgomery has a fair amount of credibility to his name.
-
Very interested to see if this move leaves Gwoz as the favorite to take over at Maine.
That's the first thing I thought as well. Interesting...

And 5) If a goalie, must put up unreal, Miller-esque numbers.

There needs to be an award like the Heisman, an award for the nation's best player, period. LeBlanc is a great player, no doubt about that, but of the three finalists, Gaudreau is the best player and its not even close.
If that were the case, I think Kristo would have been in the top three.
Since the voting among the top three takes place after the regionals, I'm a little surprised LeBlanc still won. He totally disappeared in the post-season.

So first I picked Minnesota to win it all (epic fail).
Then today I was telling a coworker that I anticipated a Lowell/SCSU final.
What the heck is happening?!
-
Come on, St. Cloud! I have no desire to see an all-New Haven final.

and i'll give you a friendly piece of advice, read the post i responded to jack. i only gave back what i got.
Oh, I know. I just try to convince the newbies not to digress to a habit that's all too common around here.

Really? He's usually good. I've only caught the OT, but they seem less informed than usual. "Umass Lowell is hoping their goalie at this point is better than Yale's goalie."--a gem from Barry Melrose.
Ha! That's a John Madden type statement right there.

Because I am clearly much more intelligent than you and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that Coach Hakstol wants to win NC's. And I have no doubt that he would trade multiple appearances for winning a NC.
Is it your position that he is perfectly happy appearing every year but not winning? I have a hard time not laughing at such a postion. Do you truly think like that? Do you think at all?
Since you're a new poster, I'll give you a friendly piece of advice...condescension doesn't go over very well. If you want to make your point (and have anyone actually pay attention to you), try doing it without belittling everyone else. Thanks.

Has anyone seen the new Miami Dolphins logo?
That poor dolphin is going to get a concussion now that he doesn't have a football helmet to wear. Now, if only they could change the team colors, too...
-
The bottom line is Hakstol isn't going to be fired in the foreseeable future and all this banter is a waste of time.
Welcome to the off-season... (or at least our team's off-season)
-
Sorry, I guess I assumed people would understand I meant during Dave Hakstol's time at UND, being we are in a Dave Hakstol thread.
Haha! There aren't many threads around here that stay on topic, so that wasn't a safe assumption!

I don't believe there will be any more firings this season. The timing of Maine's dismissal of Whitehead was curious to me because it could have been done immediately after the season...but wasn't. Then Gwoz is let go by Denver and all of a sudden, Maine says 'see ya Tim'? Just makes me wonder if Maine's up to something...
True, but if Montgomery really is the front runner, that doesn't make sense either. Maybe it took them that long to do the 'systematic review,' hear back from boosters (I get the impression that they're really hurting for funds), etc. I guess only time will tell!
Even if they are up to something, at least the AD made a statement immediately after the firing. Meanwhile, more silence from DU...
-
My post was half in jest...I don't seriously believe Gwoz would consider being the head coach at Alaska-Anchorage. It would be fun if he did though!
It would certainly be interesting! I know you didn't mean that one in all seriousness, but it's always possible that the firing of coaches hasn't finished yet for the season. So, there's the chance of another WCHA coach spot opening this year or next. I just think, of all the options out there, Gwoz won't go WCHA.

Gwoz is available & we know his teams have been able to find "it" i.e. back to back titles. By the way if you don't have "it" and don't know exactly what "it" is or what "it" looks, sounds or feels like, or where to look for "it", then how do you ever find "it"?
Therefore, shouldn't you look for someone who knows all about "it" and has found "it" b/4, as opposed to someone who doesn't know anything about "it"?
Well, that's "it" for now.
While I don't think it's possible to win the national championship without 'it,' I think there are enough variables in that tourney that it's possible to have 'it' and still not walk away with the national championship. See Siouxweet's post above...just because he hasn't won a national championship doesn't mean that none of Hakstol's teams have ever had 'it.'

Geez, quality over quantity is a tough sell around here!
