  1. Agree. There is nothing about the other three that jumps out at you. None of them have a playing career that is better than Johnson's. He has had great success as a head coach. Stacy Wilson was an asst. at Duluth but she left the program. Why and what has she been doing lately? The others are Asst. Coaches for St. Cloud (not a power, and Harvard they are a power). If Steve Johnson is interested and not given an interview, that would not be a good reflection on Bunning. I hope someone can convince him otherwise. I guess it could be that no one else is all that interested. I hope Bunning understands the quality of candidates he can get with UND ties. After all, it seems to have worked for the mens hockey team. Were I the AD, I would have done enough research to have had one or two candidates in mind and recruited them to apply at UND. Until we start believing we will be a Womens Hockey Power deserving of the best coaching and expect the best players to come here, no one else is going to either.
  2. Jeff. He was bigger than Mike. Both heavy hitters. I think Jeff also had a stint with the CFL.
  3. Another example of Chapman doing things his way without regard for the rules. Walaker has the same attitude and I don't think it is any coincidence he and Chapman were involved in violating the open meeting rule again. Same with Paulsen. To their credit they want to help their own entities. Unfortunately it isn't their money. I don't see a problem with the purchase of the buildings downtown if it was done with private money. Pretty typical arrogance of our University Administrators and elected officials to not bother keeping the appropriate state officials in the loop. (Maybe it isn't the case and Chapman did all of that with Potts' blessing). I doubt either of those guys show up at work each day with the idea that they serve the students and taxpayers of the state of N. Dak. or the citizens and taxpayers of the city of Fargo. Those guys tend to serve the people who keep them in power and can expand their power base. They have at their disposal a number of political boosters or Alumni and business people who benefit from their relationship with these power brokers and it becomes mutually beneficial. Then they tend to justify the means by the end result. Chapman has done many good things for NDSU therefore the previous Chancellor and those who thought he should live by the same rules were dupes. That is the reason he and his organization are so much better than anyone else and why the rest of the state wallows in thir own mediocrity. I could go on but you get the picture. If he is your guy you won't get the point. Many of us do some of the same stuff in our own lives with our customers, our clients, on your church board etc. Hopefully the rest of us stop at breaking the law. That is the big difference in my opinion.
  4. Wheeler needs another year before the big time. He can go back to U of Mn or the minors but won't be ready for a while. Look what happend to Stafford and Bochenski and he wasn't up to their standards yet. He will be a heck of a player as he matures though. Johnson is ready but needs to play at his highest level night in and night out. He should be a dominant defenseman in every game he plays.
  5. On the other hand we can simply quit gloating and be happy UND won. Thank them for their congratulations and show class. Dick Vinger who was a great BB coach at Kenmare, Rugby and GF Central used to say: "When you win say little, when you lose say less". UND won. That is all there is for us to say. Lets leave the Gopher game and get own with #8 in St. Louis. It makes them more upset to see your UND gear. That speaks loudly enough and says it all.
  6. Oh yeah and Dale Lennon, Murphy, West, Helling then Olson. Dale has accomplished more, Murphy left too soon, Olson faded at the end. West played all over the country against some awfully good teams (including Army) back when they didn't distinguish D1 vs D1AA or D2. Helling went to multiple bowl games then moved on. Olson turned the program around when it wass down and went to two Bowl games but the program suffered his last few years, then Murphy revived it but left too soon. Murphy never lost to the AC and I don't think they would have had their run in the 1980's ahd he stayed. He was a hell of a recriuter and offensive FB mind. Don't forget Frank Zazula. He was quite an inovator and had some very good teams in the 1950's but didn't hav ethe success of these other guys.
  7. UND won. Set a new record for points scored. Sioux won 38-21. It was 30 below zero when we left GF and got up into the 40's in Sacramento, froze the pipes in part of the motel at night and I believe set new record lows. Good N.Dak weather for Dec. . They were freezing and we practiced in shirtsleeves.
  8. If I were a sportswriter worth my salt, I would track this guy down for an interview. He had a buddy who played at Shattuck and became a Sioux fan because of the Shattuck UND conection. It would be a great ESPN interview. Aussie! Aussie! Aussie! Go Sioux!
  9. It was called correctly by the ref and it should have been called. It was a terrible penalty. It could have cost us the game! No excuse for it and college players must be more disciplined than that especially leading 2-1 in the regional finals. If he isn't dressed for the FF that would be the reason. Over the course of the year we do take too many undisciplined penalties. We can't do that in the FF and get away with it. We were lucky and the kids did a heck of a job on penalty kill.
  10. Should be easy to get tickets on Sat because two teams will be done and some of the BC fans and whomever else loses in the first round will go home.
  11. If I get enough tickets, I am going to try and talk McBriar into coming. (Cowboys punter). He can interpret for you if you need someone.
  12. This guy has a great story. He is from Sydney Australia and plays some hockey over there. He apparently is traveling from Sydney to watch the Sioux and has become a Sioux fan. If he can't get on the charter and someone knows of a ride see if we can help him out. We should also try and figure out a way for him to meet some of the players or coaches. Can't say most folks would ahave had the coconuts to do this. The newspaper should track him down. Aussie fan, keep us updated on your plans if you can. I think most Sioux fans will do our best to help out. Go Sioux.
  13. Lets see. Three years, three Frozen Fours. Not a bad record for Hak. My daughter and I will take in our third in a row. This should have been for the title. The Gophers should be there because they are one of the four best teams in the country. Nice going NCAA. See you in St. Louis.
  14. Take this outside or to a different thread. There a number of conference threads or threads about other schools. This thread is supposed to be about the 2007 FB season. By the way, UND will be good again.
  15. Joe Schiller from Detroit Lakes, 78pts this year, 3rd in state in scoring, led section 8A in scoring, signed with Mankato. He will be a good one for them. He will also be there four years. I predict he will be one of their captains and make the WCHA all-star team at least as a senior. Needs a year in juniors to physically mature. Probably not a sure enough thing for the Sioux, Gophers or Badgers without the year in juniors.
  16. Good call by both Sioux MD and Walrus. After the first 5-6 min of the game the girls would bring the ball down, get a pass and their first look was to pass to someone else. They had the deer in the headlights look. Same look they had when St. Cloud beat them. They weren't looking to score. We were tentative and that caused us to turn it over. We needed someone who wanted to have the ball in their hands when the going got tough. We also didn't do a good job of getting the ball to Kimbrough. She sat out too much of the first part of the second half. Also in the second half, there were four or five times when Langen was either alone or poorly guarded and no one noticed. She left the open area 10 ft from the bucket to screen out near the 3 pt line. Langen is a force underneath but is a lot slower this year than the last two years. Her opponent blew right by her twice in the second half and she couldn;t get to the loose ball like she used to. I was impressed with the fact that they didn't quit and worked hard. The Bergan kid added spark and I think will be a great point guard. Kimbrough can be one of the best if not the best big kid we have had. Great season. Bad time to have a bad game. Great careers for Mafin and Jahner.
  17. There is no HIPAA violation here. It is no different than if you discuss another person's health status. If you are a health care facility, provider, employee, or have access to that info as an employer etc. it could be viewed as a HIPAA violation. Neither the Forum nor UND have violated the HIPAA law.
  18. Don't give the custodians the extra work. It isn't their fault.
  19. Another kid that has stayed under the radar is Section A leading scorer Joe Schiller. He had 83 points playing for a Detroit Lakes team that had a lot of heart, a decent goalie, a couple of good defensemen. They still tied TRF in the season and took them into overtime in the playoffs. (Schiller had a goal and 4 assists in that game) Their five ft nothing foward who is one of the toughest kids I have ever seen play went from about 10pts his jr yr to over 40 this year playing on his line and , a slightly overweight golfer went form 13 points last year to 50+ points this year playing on Schillers line. The kid is 6"0" 175 lbs and is just now maturing. He has been on the same elite teams as Marvin, Forney etc and has done well in the fall elite league. He has decent but not great speed but he has great quickness, great hands, and gets you the puck on your stick. He is also very smart. He will need a year of juniors but I think he can play in theWCHA. Mankato has him in this week for a visit but I think UND could get him for a partial and I think he can play in the league. Anyone know if they have looked at him?
  20. Are you sure it was accidental??
  21. I had a meeting this AM with one of Senator Coleman's staff concerning education and the NCLB Act. After other discussion about NCLB, I suggested they consider my idea of changing the drinking age to either age 21 or a person with a HS diploma plus 3 mos. whichever comes first. I suggested it should improve graduation rates without cost to taxpayers. I reminded her we have more problems in this country with binge drinking than those countries which have lower drinking ages and that we are willing to send young men and women age 18 to war. She took notes on other ideas but I noted she didn't write anything down about my idea on changing the age. I think she is a Gopher fan.
  22. I have four tickets each night for the Mankato series. Section 101 Row G. $130 for all four. either night.
  23. This explains everything. The guys just stopped by for an Ice Cream Cone and the spot next door was closed. They heard the same thing you did, that both places had the same owner. They naturally thought that in the winter, you had to go to Judys to get ice cream. That is why they are only charged with minors on the premises. They weren't there for beer, they stopped by for Ice Cream. So you are trying to tell me now that you can't even get an Ice Cream cone in GF without getting hassled. What is the world coming to??
  24. Judys is the political hub of Grand Forks and the University. They treat it like the UN in New York You get immunity from prosecution as long as you don't do anything egregious.
  25. I wasn't kidding. Friends and guys who were on their team can call or email the kids Dad. Don't call the kid.
