  1. There is also no Valp, Northern Colorado etc..... I believe the game is making strides to have teams in the game. It seems that the ones missing either don't give schollys like Valpo or non qualifying teams like SU, SDSU etc.....
  2. To make numbers exact. Sproles currently 5'6 180 Q is 5'7 195. But remember that's now. They have quite a few years on Weston. The other thing is that it is no always how much you get hit, but how you get hit. Most "little" guys run low enough that they may not get that direct hit that hurts the most.
  3. The Fargo Forum webpage had it last season. www.in-forum.com/sports
  4. Northern State has great NCC potential. Their Men's basketball program has the best coach in the Tri-State area (Dan Monson inclueded). Football would go through the same growing pains as UMD is going through but it wouldn't be long before they were competitive as well. St. Thomas is in a great spot to be extreamly successful at the DII level. They have the money!! And other than Concordia-St. Paul they are the only option down in the Cities. Football would take time to improve, but basketball is a program that would have a short transition stage. Also both St. Thomas' track teams could probably win the NCC with the absence of NDSU and SDSU.
  5. Don't jump the gun and say that Dressler is the best HS sprinter in history. He's up there but there have been many good ones. Chris Wilmes Beaulah, Aaron Dewald Thompson, Jerred Essler Minot Ryan and I could keep going. He really good but the best might be shorting some others. I would agree on the spring ball assessment. After that Track should be in the cards.
  6. What about the big freshman reciever from Colorado. His name escapes me. Standing on the sideline he looked like a load to bring down. If there is any speed with that he may be tough? What recievers should be looked at to step up? The two from Dickenson? Michael Hegg from Thompson?
  7. I suppose it won't help the attendance with EGF in the state championship game. Any word on Mertens committment? Where is he going to end up?
  8. I was talking with a buddy........why not black the game out in GF and the immediate area? Then televise the game in the outstate areas and Minnesota.?
  9. With some of the names on that team, I would find it hard to believe that J. Brandt is playing vs anything other than Zone D's. Plus I've never seen J. B guard anyone, therefore I don't think he's going to see the floor much. Good luck to him!
  10. Gunhus is from Park Christian the same school as Austin Pennick (recently signed with NDSU). The confusion might come in the fact that the two schools co-op in football and Pennick played football.
  11. According to the bracket, that can't happen..........sorry. Try not to hurt yourself when you miss the next bandwagon you are trying to jump on. John 45:0
  12. Well Said!!! You ARE making too much out of one game. There were two or three instances where Dressler was open downfield for big plays. The throw was not on the money! The kid can play and I have seen more from him than from many guys that have been in the system for a few years. This is the way that college athletics work. Guys compete for jobs! We are not there during the week and if Dressler is out performing these guys than he should play. If you are an upper classman and you feel your not getting the play you deserve either work harder and earn it or take the alternative routes. I don't think we have a coaching staff that is willing to sacrafice winning just to play a true freshman! I think we owe the staff more credit than that!!
  13. You also have to take into consideration the convience factor for filling up an arena. I drive from Fargo to GF for each home game. I am in the minority though. Even if the number of UND fans in Fargo is that high you still can't say that all of them have the ability based on family, job etc.. to drive up to GF each and every Saturday. I think you have to assume that you have a few die hards and then after that you have a number of people that go once or twice throughout the season. If they don't all go at the same time you have empty seats.
  14. Careful what you say. First off you are talking about High School teams. Second you should look up and down the list before you rattle off a statement like that. Grafton-Park River has more to say in North Dakota hockey than anyone other than GFC and GFRR...that includes FN & FS. Who's the last big time player a Fargo school has turned out?
  15. The best thing for college football would be three or four teams with only one loss this season. If Miami would have lost last night or for them to lose to Virgina. For UVa to lose to Florida St. For USC to lose to anybody, for Oklahoma to lose a conference or conference championship game etc.... You see where I'm going. If multiple teams that are considered stud teams falter atleast once than the BCS will be put the the test and more people not just USC/LSU fans will be pissed off. There needs to be an uprising from many different schools at once. my two cents
  16. I don't believe that he can. He was unable to participate in spring ball because you only have a certain number of semesters to complete your eligablility. He has already has a regular redshirt and a medical redshirt. He would be out of semesters, which is why I think they have left him on the PAT team. Technically he has played in every game this year.
  17. NDSU has obviously moved football into the top spot on their list. They made their move to DI based on football and at the expense of the other sports. They are independent in other sports and without a conference their schedules look very similar to years past (maybe even weaker). Rank the most important sports to the U of North Dakota?
  18. Thanks to conversations with different coaches and administrators from some NAIA schools, I forsee a restructuring of all divisions of college athletics. I don't see the NAIA lasting much longer. I know that the NAIA is close to many peoples hearts but if you look and see that the NSIC and the MIAC were both NAIA once upon a time. On the whole the NSIC and the MIAC are now much more successful. That NCAA tab does pull many kids to programs. The NAIA rules system of scholorships and eligiability is hurting its academics and its product. If the NAIA disbands schools like the University of Mary will not want to give up its scholorships for athletics therefore forcing them into DII or higher. Mary, Jamestown etc.. could never compete against UND, NDSU etc... in football and rarely in basketball. I think that there will eventually be a restructuring of the NCAA whether that means that there will be NCAA DI -- DIV or whether they will leave the labels the same adjust from there. That's just another reason that eventually UND will "move up" and maybe a reason why some of those schools not meeting crowd size requirements may "move down"
  19. It will be interesting to see how well prepared UMD is. They may not have the players to stop every play but it will be interesting to see if they are in the right spot to stop a play. In an interview Coach Lennon said that there isn't much that they can or are going to change to combat the great knowledge that our former D cord. has. I think that storyline will be fun to follow.
  20. Well in an attempt to do this without bashing NDSU I would like to rank the "old NCC" based on how good I think they are not thru four weeks: St. C UND -----I think UND wins the game if it's in Forks, or with a healthy John B. but w/o that knowledge I have to give the nod to St.C SDSU--- has the kind of offense to give every one fits but if it's not clicking....referece UC-Davis NDSU ---- Same as above. If the game is at the FDome, SU wins and no one cares about the Mile Marker UNO USD Auggie MSU-Man My two cents!
  21. I love UND athletics but I have been very disappointed in the recruiting the last few seasons. I think the staff needs to work a little harder. That being said. I'm worried about the situation. I personally feel that the more this team is going to rely on freshman and Juco transfers the worse off they will be. The less they "know" each other the worse season starts and the less effective they are. I sure hope that Tommy Liekes is not a factor player this year, if he is playing the point, no one will touch the ball and no other NCC point guards will have anyone playing 'D' on them. Shoot first point guards don't win games in the NCC. I hope one of those Juco guys can run the offense and pressure guards along with stopping penitration. I do feel that whatever happens this year, Lindahl and Rypkema have a great seasons, better than last! But having a stiff like Adam Jacobson in your starting lineup hurts the teams cause. He's no Nick J. Good Luck to the Sioux! I hope it works out better than I think!
  22. It was the first game of both teams seasons. Granted has Ferris not but the ball on the turf 6 or 7 times they may have stole one. UND didn't look good in the second half vs. Delta either and Delta has shown many weeknesses. I don't think I want to put all my hopes on the result of Grand Valley's first game.
  23. Can somebody tell me what's up with Adam Roland and his reduced carries this week. This may have been talked about but I missed it??
  24. I can't say much about the difference between men and women at the DI or DII level but I can compare it to a situation that occurs at the DIII level. The biggest obstacle that the DIII schools such as Concordia face is that they don't give out athletic scholorships. They promote campus and education with athletics second. As a former DIII male athlete we found that it is much easier to recruit females to a DIII school because they are less interest in the word scholorship. When our recruits would be faced with a decision between a low DII school or a NAIA school that offered money, 9 of 10 times men would choose the scholorship. I know tuition plays a factor in this but even guys that were major academic scholorship winners would still choose the athletic scholorship over the opposite. If this is comparable it may mean that to many female athletes the DI/DII discussion is mute.
