  1. Winona is practically team Wisconsin! They did a great job recruiting the talent from Wisconsin that didn't want to play DIII, but wasn't good enough for DI. They were not the most athletic team yesterday but they sure played great basketball! Congrats to the Warriors and the NSIC.
  2. I believe that the University of Utah at one time employed a fantastic coach that should've recruited kids to the buffet line rather than the basketball team.............but he was pretty successful!
  3. I'm not so sure that DL plays a much tougher schedule.....DL does play the "big" girls in ND but the Wahp, Shanley Jamestown and VC are just the same a Section 8 AA.......as far as school size goes.
  4. Thanks for the info. The kid from Park Rapids is Janeesa Wolff. I agree that she and Draxten are likely the two best college prospects in the region. I suspect both will get a lot of major conference dI attention, so it would probably be a longshot for UND to get either, but you never know.
  5. I'm not the guy to keep beating a dead horse, but on the lost recruit topics from a month or so ago. Craig Nelson Northern State PG.........from Mayville, ND............as on mentioned earlier is only 30 miles south and 10 off of the interstate. Through 27 games, 25+ minutes/game.............9+pts/game and 21 TO's. My fifth grade teaching Math skills tell me that is less than one TO per game!!! He'd look good in Green and White.
  6. I believe that Kindred has a couple of quality underclass athletes whether or not they are DII-low DI I don't know.
  7. You are correct on all counts. I guess as a Gopher fan in everything except Hockey (had to justify statement) I would love to see a coaching staff with familiar, successful faces.
  8. to quote the classic heart wreching chick flick...Ghost........DITTO!
  9. CoachDags What do you think McDermott would think if the Minnesota position opened up? (Monson's players have never gotten much better than when they come in, his legs are about to be cut from under him) He has had major success at Northern Iowa recruited Howard Pulley Kids, this is something that the U must know. It being a Big Ten job and all would that be something that Mac and Jake might be thinking about?
  10. DEFENSE....I've heard that all the freshman are struggling to play both ends of the floor at this level.
  11. How bout they fire someone so that they CAN hire someone!!!!
  12. Might be the best thing for Class A pathetic attendence at State Tournaments though? It would also be nice if the two UND recruits could lead their teams to a couple of upsets and play in those games. I know it is a pipe dream for Bergan and VC but maybe I give Seay and Central an ok shot. In class A it only takes one good weekend.
  13. Link to WAHP-SCI stats http://www.cybersportsusa.com/statBB_Season.asp?team_id=4492 Supposedly there is a 6'7 kid playing for Grygla-Gatzke that got some pub as a top 100 (top 20 center) in the Minnesota recruiting magazine.
  14. AWESOME FOR THE WOMEN.........I think it's time that the men play the first game of the Doubleheaders!!!
  15. Unblieveable....Coach Glas Breaks a Record and we have to post this Crap..... I wil take My Chances with Rich Glas...He has only averaged around 20 wins a year....Thats pretty good..
  16. Savageau should play at Concordia right away next year. Good recruiting win for the Cobbs. Might simply be a case of playing right away and staying near home.
  17. Wisconsin had a bye in the Big Ten schedule and perfered to play a game rather than sit one out. Also Wisconsin is playing without 2 major bench players that will be suspended for an undisclosed amount of time.
  18. I have a question for women's hockey fans: Do you as female hockey fans have a problem with the US Women's Nat'l Team scheduling games vs High School boys or men in general? The Twin Cities radio guys took shots at the Women's team for playing....a double edge sword situation. If you lose you lost to HS boys if you win all you beat was HS boys. Does anyone have an issue with this? I think it is fine to schedule the games...........whatever makes you better and prepares you for your goals. Just throwing this out for hockey fans.
  19. I'm ready to bump up! It's going to happen eventually......think about it. The DAC 10 (NAIA) is on its way to the crapper....Winning National Titles is great, but If I competing against Moorhead State, U of Mary and Sister Rosie's school for the blind, deaf and mute.....it means nothing. Obviously things need to change in some of the programs. Both Men's basketball and Volleyball must find coaches that can take them to the next level, recruit and have a passion for developing and winning. Sports like Football are ready to go. Let's level the playing field with SU. Bring back the rivalry in it's truest form. I'm not a S/D expert but I'd agree that they would probably be able to compete in the mid majors and work towards producing a few All-Americans. Baseball, Track, Softball and Soccer would need to become slightly greater priorities than they are otherwise they are just wasted budget. By that I don't mean cut the programs, but bring in coaches and Asst. Coaches that are willing to recruit and find talent. In all honesty baseball is probably never going to compete at a terribly high level thanks to location. I mean not even the Big Ten produces College WS teams on a consistent basis. If you are a good baseball player you are going to go somewhere that allows you to hone your skills year-round. The same can kind of be said for track.....however our area is producing more talent and right now they are all going to SU because of their comitment to TF. You would have to think based simply off of %'s that some of those kids would attend UND if they were as committed to the sport. The facilities are for the most part in place. Basketball has a wonderful new arena, and has the benifit of the Ralph if necessary. Though I'd love to see the Betty rocking for a big game! Football is set. The track could use some improvements but realistically a Track Team travels more that it hosts events. The only thing that worries me is finding a conference. I'm still a believer that if UND had moved up with SU that both would be in the Big Sky. SU's biggest problem with moving up has been the lack of a true conference in any sport! (inc. FBall) If UND can solve this quandry I think it's time to go! Don't wait around until the schedule is full of NSIC and DAC 10 schools! You're not going to draw the gates you need to be a good DII program if you are playing Crookston and Mary all the time!

Let me preference what I'm going to type: I by no means want these local kids to fail. ----Losing these athletes to SU is a tough pill to swallow right now but if these kids don't succeed/transfer/quit...whatever. This will hurt SU in the long run. If they recruit and "steal" UND recruits and these athletes don't pan out, this can help UND in the long run. NDSU has much less interest in the local kids compared to UND. Talent has something to do with that as does the fact that Bohl and most of his staff aren't local either. If these athletes don't do well UND can use it to there advantage for future recruiting classes. Right now as UND stays DII they must play the waiting game on SU's advantage. Remember we are only two classes into this debate about DIAA and DII. Mertens, Kyle Belmont, Gratzek, Anderson and Vandal are going to be the test rats for this debate. If the don't succeed UND can spin it to their advantage. If they do....then UND has a tough road ahead. ----Also, Gratzek making his choice based on the books doesn't make me feel bad at all. If he has a future in a profession/major that UND doesn't provide, he shouldn't waste his time, and future profession at UND. He's a heck of a football player, but I'm not sure if he's going to play on Sundays so it's good to see that the books matter. Though on the football field he'd look much better in a lighter shade of Green!
  21. I totally understand that............I guess I'm just kind of sick of the DI propaganda that always has an overly positive twist to it from the Forum and WDAY. Which I think many people will admit is rarely unbiased reporting.
  22. I don't want to start a pissing match. But people at NDSU must realize that even if Bama is an SEC team they still aren't an above average women's basketball program. It's like a DIII school like Concordia beating Moorhead State....Even though their DII they aren't good. They need to take talent into the equation. Beat a big conference mid level or higher school and then talk like it is a big step. For now it is a modest step and I say Congo Rats for that........but it's not a big deal.

I'm just passing on what I've heard but obviously you have closer sources. Also...SA plays MayPort CG @ Mayville State this week. MPCG has talented low post players that can give many player fits. It might be a good matchup. I think SA backcourt will make the difference.

I heard some interesting news today while watching Christmas hoops. Gratzek from SA is leaning towards UND if he decides to play football. Yeah, if he decides. I guess he is tossing around the idea of playing basketball. He's had interest as a basketball player from the same schools that are looking at him for football. I don' t know what he looks like as a ball player. I've never seen him......but this info came from a very reliable Northern Minnesota source.
