  1. Wow, what a game. Can I breathe now?? Dressler/Chappell = studs.

The Sioux sure left a lot of points on the field, though. One fumble at the 6 and the fumble through the end zone. But, heck a win is a win. I'll take it.

    Go Sioux!!!

  2. I'm assuming that since this is in the Community thread and not in the hockey or football thread that the news will impact UND Athletics as a whole. Could it be a substantial donation, conference news, the long awaited master plan ...?

My guess is that Diggler will be named a new assistant AD and become AD heir apparent. :D

  3. I looked back for a place to post this, but none of the old threads looked appropriate for a Harlon Hill candidate. The kid is breaking records and electrifying the crowds.

North Dakota receiver piles up records

Dressler, whose magic act in the open field has frustrated opponents for three-plus seasons, will leave UND as the program's career leader in receptions, touchdowns and receiving yards.

As the Sioux prepare for their North Central Conference opener Saturday against Central Washington, Dressler holds records for receptions (177), touchdown passes (26) and receiving yards (2,286). And he still has eight regular-season games to play.

He is breaking Gustafson's records, who was one of my favorites when I was a kid. :D
  4. Once again I have to ask, why are there so many Bison fans posting on SiouxSports? Is the inferiority complex that great that you can't stay away? Additionally, as a Sioux fan, I don't really care what the Bison mouthpiece, Kolpack, thinks.

  5. The last time we played a school from Southern Alabama in freezing weather (Livingston St), we lost. :D

I was there. I remember reading the Herald the next day with the headline "Snow Job". All week long the coaches from Livingston were complaining how cold it was. The general thought is that it doesn't get cold or snow in Northern Alabama. Guess what it does, hence the headline.

  6. UND becomes iTunes U

UND announced Thursday that Apple Inc. has named it an iTunes University, meaning some course materials, lectures, seminars and general information will be available soon on the company's educational file-sharing Web site.

Already more than 60 podcasts - audio and video files for playback on digital players such as Apple's iPod - are available on UND's Web site, the school said in a presentation on the main level of the Memorial Union.

The system provides a way for colleges and universities to make both audio and video content from lectures, interviews, audio books and more available to students online.

Students can download from either Apple's iTunes U site or their own school's Web site onto their computers. So, even without an iPod, students can still get access to the service.

  7. There are some other notable exceptions regarding enrollment numbers

    Auburn is larger than Alabama

Virginia Tech is larger than Virginia

NC State is larger than UNC

Miss State is larger than Ole Miss

AZ State is larger than Arizona

Oklahoma State is larger than Oklahoma

Utah Valley State is larger than both Utah and Utah State

and a little closer to home....

Montana State is larger than Montana.

South Dakota State is larger than South Dakota

More important than not being the largest school in the state is the question of why UND is not growing. Is it a lack of marketing?

Both schools were growing at approximately the same rate up until 2004, which was when NDSU moved to Division I. Is it more prestigious from a student's point of view to attend a Division I school? If that is the case, then UND's course should be corrected next year.

UND changed admissions standards a couple of years ago, which has had an effect, but the standards now are nearly the same as NDSU's. Just curious as to what others think the reason for the decline in enrollment is.

I believe that both schools have a goal to level out at 15,000 students, so eventually they will be nearly equal in terms of enrollment regardless, but UND needs to start heading that direction.

  8. UND plans to expand worldwide presence

The University of North Dakota expanded its international presence this week with two separate initiatives.

UND officials signed an agreement Wednesday with a Russian university that will set the groundwork for future student and faculty exchanges and research collaborations.

Meanwhile, UND President Charles Kupchella is visiting the Kyrgyz Republic to sign an agreement with Osh State University.

The agreement includes student exchange and possible collaborations with faculty and distance education.

  9. I was sitting in a meeting in a Federal Courthouse and wasn't allowed to bring my cell phone into the building. My wife held her breath until she heard back from me after the meeting. My brother was in a hotel near the Pentagon and couldn't get out of DC for several days.

    God bless the USA.

  10. Sioux ranked second, third in pair of national football polls

Fresh off of a 37-10 win at Southern Utah, a Football Championship Subdivision opponent, the Fighting Sioux are ranked second by one national poll and third by another, both of which were released earlier today.

UND (2-0, 0-0 NCC) is ranked No. 2 in the nation by Don Hansen's Football Gazette Top 40 poll, trailing only two-time defending national champion Grand Valley State. The Sioux now return home to face Central Washington in Saturday's annual Potato Bowl and Hall of Fame game at the Alerus Center. The Wildcats are ranked No. 33 nationally in the Football Gazette poll after blanking Humboldt State 44-0 in their season opener last Saturday.
