  1. Bill Palmiscino of GF Park District was on WDAZ last night on this topic. Right now GF has 3 seperate organizations running youth hockey; GF Park District, GF Blues, and GF Supras. USA Hockey model only allows for one. He likened it to the NCAA in that the association has its rules and if you want to belong you have to go by their rules. Other USA Hockey communities potentially would not schedule with GF. The 3 groups will need to combine in order to belong to USA Hockey.
  2. More info in Bismarck Tribune online. link ?
  3. I like the idea of calling it a league -- like NCHL

  5. This is absolutley correct. I think what many overlook in the settlement agreement is the exemption from the "Best Practices" policy of the NCAA. Once UND is back on the H/A list they are subject to not only not be able to host NCAA events and wear NA logos or names, would again be subject to the "Best Practices" policy, which encourages member schools to emulate "model" institutions such as Wisconsin, Iowa, etc that have policies against scheduling teams with NA names or images. That's the guidance from the NCAA.
  6. Yeah -- A native american named helicopter will "help to promote unity", "strengthen relations with tribes", and "will honor many", but a native american named university is "hostile and abusive".

  12. An 11 team conference works out for basketball. 20 conference games, home/home with each member, and still be able to schedule 7 non-conference games/year. An 11 team WCHA does not work because of the unbalanced schedule it creates.

  19. Right! The track would overhang part of the field below.
  20. He said as a builder, he would like to have shovels in the ground tomorrow, but this is still in the idea stage but could be done within 5 years or sooner.
  21. Rick Tonder was just interviewed on KNOX about the Old Ralph plan. The roof needs to be replaced, which he said was not unusual for a building of that age. The steel skin has some holes that would need repair, but structurally is sound. Would remove all seats above the concouse level (street level as you enter) and would be able to have a 5-7 lane 200M track. Would remove all seats in the lower level and be able to have a football size field with fieldturf. The advantage to this plan is infrastructure (steam line, water, & electricity) is in place, which would be about 40% of the cost in a new facility. Also the building has locker room facilities and the loft/office area that can be used. He talked about this as being an interim plan, but did not elaborate on how long it would be interim.
  22. There are 2 jobs posted on the UND web site for media sales person/basketball play-by-play announcer and part-time men's hockey play-by-play announcer. Anyone heard of changes in broadcasting rights?
