  1. Hopefully they will make it around to Gordie Stafford and Steve Johnson. Either one of those would be a great choice.
  2. Have to admit this may be the biggest concern. Everyone else is drafted, and are set with their teams to some degree. Duncan has to be ready if, and when, opportunity knocks. Given his size if some Eastern Conference team offers him a deal he may well have to consider it. Being a free agent has both pros and cons, but you certainly don't want to wager to much hoping the results are the same in '08 & '09.
  3. Toews - gone (Nothing left to accomplish) Oshie - gone (Time to make some money) Duncan - stays (May never get a chance to go) Chorney - stays (Gone next year) Finley - gone (Hard time playing within the confinement of College Hockey) Lee - stays (Gone next year) Thinking with my head, not my heart.
  4. Too bad it had to turn into an ugly situation. As far as Shantel getting paid for "administrative" duties, it is what she is owed by the University. Why should there be a problem living up to the agreement. She had a contract through next June, so pay her through next June, even if you don't use her services. As to Coach Johnson returning for this position . . . don't hold your breath! This isn't what he's after, nor would it be a good stepping stone once Hak and Eades leave. If you're looking for an alum to take over the program may be worth mentioning Charlie (Mike) Burggraf. He was a men's assistant at Bethel, an assistant to Halldorson at Minnesota, and now heads the women's program at Bethel. The ladies certainly would learn to skate under his direction.
  5. Harrington would be a "dog" in Siouxland, not a rodent! This one's not happening.
  6. I would imagine we will see him move on soon - no very soon!
  7. There may not have been a writer in this area with more passion and heart. Well done Virg, thanks for the memories.
  8. Three and gone. I have to believe the Fighting Sioux made a major error in not hiring Bollinger.
  9. Bill lives in Moorhead, Minnesota.
  10. It is a decent place to watch a hockey game, with lots to do in the general area. I would recommend either the Doubletree or Sheraton, which are less than two miles from the arena. If you've got the cash the Broadmoor isn't a bad place to stay either. Lots of restaurants in the strip malls around the World Arena. Not sure about tickets, although upper deck isn't a bad view.

  12. Not to be too picky Rick, but the main family that runs the window factory is Cal's brother Bill. His daughter Susan is now President. Scott and Conway are the sons of another brother of Cal's, Tut.
  13. I believe the arena seats about 2,500. Should be a full house.
  14. Condolences to the Marvin family on the passing of Cal Marvin. He had a great impact on the game locally, nationally, and the international game.
  15. I also heard from two sources in the Warroad district that Eades has resigned, and they are seeking his replacement. A couple of candidates in the school district have been asked to assume the AD role.
  16. Kevin Maxwell actually lit up the Winter Sports Building. UND had not seen the likes of him in a long time. Howard Walker, Bill Himmelright, Rob Mihulka, and swingin' Scott Marvin. Older yet, Terry Abram (should've been the Gopher's coach instead of Woog), Terry Casey, Ben Cherski, Morelli and John Noah.
  17. Come on, name an assistant coach already! I know it takes time to post and all, but this is getting crazy. Is Johnson in, or not? Seems that's the main question to answer. No offense jloos, but he seems to be the top choice.
  18. I believe that Johnson and Eades are the only two under serious consideration. Johnson likely gets the first shot, but boy is money an issue. I've heard $125-$150K also with bonus and incentives. Hak may not have gotten that. So then UND turns to Eades. Throw in a hockey school or two and he can match what he's making at Warroad $65-75K plus the hockey school. Rather a no-brainer for him, as most high schools can't offer that, and he's done all he can do in Warroad. The only problem for birdie is that he's running out of time to get set in GF before school. Now, assuming someone with $ helps sweeten the package for Johnson, it appears that Eades is ready to take over his action in Lincoln. Would be the smartest move all around. Johnson becomes the heir apparent (should've been this time) and Eades gets set up in a program where he can coach/gm until he retires. North Dakota passing him over this time, probably shuts the door on a major hockey job.
  19. Team Minnesota has looked extremely frazzled the first two days of the festival. No punch offensively, and if it wasn't for goaltending Michigan and Rocky Mountain would have blown them out the water. Lee has not been able to play because of a concussion, but Ammerman has looked strong on the point.
  20. Eades will be glad to make the move at this time, and should be on board by next week. Ten years in Warroad is likely about three too many. While he has the administration behind him, certain powers are anxious for him to move on; and honestly what more can he accomplish in Warroad, short of pushing them to play AA hockey.
  21. Part of the problem is that people get way to sensitive. UND is an elite program! Nothing against DH, but one has to think that there may have been proven coaches interested if given the opportunity to apply. I am sure DH will do a great job! I really don't care who he is married to, I just don't think that he is quite at the level of the candidates that may have come out in a national search. Trusting DB as most of us do, I am excited to see what DH brings to the table. Just think that an elite program should do a national search and see what the interest is.
  22. If one reads between the lines, it appears that the wheels are fairly well greased. 1. Hakstol is named coach (kind of a shame with Mel Pearson and Ron Rolston looking for a head position, not to mention Sandelin and Marks); 2. Berry will be named associate head (must be fun sitting at a news conference, having declared yourself interested in the position only to have DB give DH his vote of confidence); 3. Cary Eades returns to the campus of UND as the assistant coach (sportsman or not, he's a winner); and 4. Eades' leaving opens up the Warroad slot for David Marvin; which 5. causes Oshie to head for a junior program. Hope its USHL not major junior back in Washington so he can still become a Fighting Sioux. I really hope that this is not a downward trend in Sioux hockey history, but I have to think it may be. The contract shouldn't be more than two years.
