Your credibility is kind of suspect calling for Hak's head to begin with, but Hak did some nice things with teams where he couldn't even field a full lineup, and he had to deal with being raided by the professional ranks a lot.  Not easy to plan ahead and fill all the gaps on a year to year basis with injuries and pro defections, yet he seemed to make the NCAA playoffs every year.

That's exactly what the guys on the hockey board were saying too and I understand the point. They always worried that Hak could not be replaced.

Turns out he could be replaced. So could Bubba, but not yet.

Injuries certainly bear the majority of the blame, however Schmidt needs to figure out how to make a defense work with what he has. It won't necessarily be his defense, but right now that isn't working. There's no excuse for being little more than a speed bump out there, regardless of the number of injuries.  We won't win many games putting up 24 points, but we won't win any games giving up 48.

This is a fair point, but...

Although these guys are in positions where they are overmatched, does it help that they are getting some reps in games? Does it help them for next year or the year after? This year is dead. It's a rebuild, so does it make sense to keep the system the same as the one he will use next year or should he try something new?

  3. Here's a list of the RS Freshmen and true Freshmen who played way too much so far this year on D.

Blubaugh, Shannon, Rastas and Stewart are true frosh.

Turner, Haas, Steiger and Richman have been playing a lot as RS frosh. All are getting their first taste of game action. Is there an adjustment period? I would guess so. The true frosh are not allowed to make that adjustment slowly and have been tossed in the fire.

Not gonna remind all about who these guys are trying to replace, but 2 of them are legit pro prospects.

I'm a guy who spent a couple of years seeking Haks firing over on the hockey thread so I'm not immune to banging that drum, but this year is an aberration. IF they don't put it together next year, I may not be so patient.

  4. It's not just injuries to a few key guys-it's injuries to the guys who replaced the few key guys and injuries to those guys too.

That's not an excuse-its a reality. I can't help it and neither can you, but to be suggesting there's something more is missing the reality in my opinion.

I could've gone down to Memorial and said that to Mussman's 2013 squad and still got punched in the face. This, your point is meaningless. Of course Bubba and his players should be defensive to criticism, but the proof is in the pudding. 2017 UND football is currently a joke.

But the joke can be explained.

You need to stop sniffing french fry oil.  Have some respect!  UN_ has done nothing in there D1   era  to make a comment like this...  just watch... we have been... UN_ stinks!  Here I will make it simple for you.  One playoff loss... countless blowout losses.

Is there a reason you can't type the D on UND??

Is Studsrud a 3rd stringer? How about Toivonen and Mercer? Santiago and Oliveira weren't expected to play much? Dranka, Tank Harris, and Greely are third string players along with Disterhaupt, Haas, Jade Lawrence, and Torrey Hunt? UND has a lot of "experienced leaders" still on the field but yet they've packed it in. It's disapponting. I'm glad there's some folks on this board who love excuses because it's sort of representative of this team right now - going all in on excuses.

Disterhaupt is an OLB not MLB. Lawrence is Ok but too small for what he's doing now. Hunt is fine But it appears the DLine has regressed but it may be that they are doing what they've always done, but had good MLB's behind them to make the plays. You've named 12 guys. I think I can name 14 who are out today that the coaching staff thought might be playing.

I'll say it again-I HATE WHAT I'M SEEING! But I understand why I'm seeing it.

  8. I will say what has been said before- Rudolph calls the game Bubba wants called. He wants ball control O, and he has a QB that is decent at that, but as the underthrown ball to Adeoti shows, doesn't have the arm to fling it.

Doesn't seem like the culture is where it needs to be. Giving full effort, being a competitor, etc... I completely understand there have been 13 injuries to starters but where are the leaders of this team? Why does it seem like they aren't prepared and aren't giving full effort every play? Why all the mental mistakes and penalties? Why all the special teams miscues? Why have there been 3 touchdowns in the past two games that have to do with blown coverages? Why does it seem the guys aren't focused.

Injuries are obviously a huge part of our problem but it isn't the only problem

And I'm saying they are giving full effort, but they are outmanned and just not physically able. That TD does not occur with Reyes there. We can't keep hoping for guys who are out to show up, but I can't blame the effort of the young punks who are in there.

    I can vouch for one

I'll be there. Look, this is clearly a lost season. Whether it's a bump in the road or worse will not be known till next year, but I'm not jumping ship. This team will contend in the MVC in a couple of years. Just watch.

Unless we play 3rd stringers and walk-ons.

I haven't heard anything different as to why injuries aren't the main concern.    Anyone?

Because it's easier to be Pis&#d  off at coaches and say the team isn't trying.

Except for those who are PiS%ed off at the OC!

I have not heard one reason why UND. Is what they are.  I say injuries onD and a complete fool calling plays on offense.  Can anyone tell me why that isn't the case ?

Great call to pass to Adeoti :)

Your stance is that UND would've been fine in 2018 because Rastas, Blubaugh, etc. would've miraculously improved with another year of prep? Yeah, they would've been more physically prepared, but the intangibles are what they are. We are seeing a preview of what the future holds.

UND needs to have a level of fight and determination that doesn't allow this kind of collapse to occur, especially just following a conference championship season. The culture of this team is not adequate. What happened from last season to this season goes beyond injuries.

After four recruiting classes, UND and Bubba need to have some depth that prevents this level of embarrassment and implosion from happening.

My stance is that maybe they wouldn't have been ready next year either. And maybe without injuries, they wouldn't need to be. My stance is they ARE NOT READY THIS YEAR, and the coaching staff recruited them knowing that. This is all hands on deck time now and at least they are smart enough NOT to pull Larson's RS so he can be a part of the Championship teams in the next few years. But I see hope here for next year. Today, for this season, I have no hope.

  14. 2 minutes ago, UND-FB-FAN said:

The injury situation is unfortunate, but these 2nd and 3rd string players aren't all true freshmen.

Also, UND was picked to win the conference; a bunch of injuries shouldnt turn UND into a doormat! Maybe they should be less competitive, but they shouldn't turn into the bottom feeder of the Big Sky Comference. Bubba and his staff have shown deficiencies, now, in recruiting quality depth and adjusting on the fly when unexpected changes hit.

But we are now 3 and 4 deep on the depth chart. How many coaches could foresee that? Plus Harris and Reyes are virtually irreplaceable, they thought they had good depth at LB before Connor went down and the others and frankly, the depth at OLine is looking good today.

i know i know but if i asked u if we played 22 backups would we lose to cal davis 80-21? no.

I've long thought that losing Randolph was huge too, but imagine Harris taking care of Doss. Who do they go to? We have Reyes back there too and Randolph but NOT Blubaugh, Rastas and the other RS's.

You add Connor, Elijah, Poole , Gordon to that list ....yeah not the reason apparently

And I hate what I'm seeing here too, but lets get off the ledge here people. Calling for the whole staff to go is nuts. With the young OLine we are running all over these guys.

DLine needs to get to the QB who hasn't been touched yet.
