I think this is the most relevant place with hockey being our most significant sport. Prior to Chaves arrival hockey had won a natty in 2016. Volleyball and both basketballs were winning and competing for championships. Football was on the rise. What changed? Enter Bill Chaves. UND athletics is now a laughing stock. There are calls for new head coaches for almost every sport on this forum. Let's start with changing the person who is responsible for the overall decline in sports at UND. Bring in an associate athletic director from a Big Ten program or from a winning culture like SDSU to get us back on track. Long past time for Chaves to be fired.

Making a deep run in the tournament usually gets a coach an extension. UND won a championship under Jones. I would say that shows that you can win and there should be higher expectations. UND in my opinion should not be considered a top (or even average) school in the Summit though except for coaches performing exceptionally well. Coldest place, worst location, hard to get to. And to make it worse Chaves doesn’t appear to have a clue what he is doing, so no real leadership in the department.

I get that 36% is not good. I am asking why UND should have a higher win percentage. What is so amazing about UND that the win percentage should be so much higher?

If they achieved all that I would think it deserves a multi year extension. I agree that right now Chaves needs to go and Sather’s future is up in the air, but what do you think the expectations should be at UND and why?

I don’t disagree that the coaching needs to be better but Ndsu had more talent.

Maybe the rest of the coaches too? All our programs stink right now.

Agreed to an extent, but why is every sport bad? Is UND just a bad place for coaches to recruit? Or is this a cultural thing in the athletic department? When every sport is struggling you have to wonder.

Perhaps not a popular opinion: but what if the big issue isn’t Sather? Look around the department- every sport is bad and some of these coaches have been successful prior to UND. When every sport is struggling I think you need to look at the leadership of the department.

When would he likely leave for the NHL?

Sounds like the writing is on the wall for Stevens this Softball season. On a more positive note the additions to the Pollard look great from the outside. Once finished it will be a nice setup in that part of campus.

The atmosphere at The Berry was almost non existent again today. Hard to make some noise when there isn’t a lot to cheer for.
