Monday morning 9am Armacost announces a change in leadership for the hockey program and the athletic department. Or is this wishful thinking?
-
Right now the only reasons to come play hockey at UND are the best arena in the nation along with the attendances, and the great locker room and weight room. It’s not to because you’re competing for a Natty.
-
Chaves won’t say anything. His entire tenure he has had no plan or backbone from what it seems like. What was his plan from the beginning? Why are all the sports struggling? i have said this before I don’t think every coach at UND is bad. I think a bad athletic department is bringing the coaching down.
-
My understanding is that Albrecht paid for the entire project Chaves gets to prance around and pretend he did something to get this done but in reality if the current head softball coach is to be believed then this was not achieved with significant help from athletic administration.
-
I would substitute’a lot of work’ for ‘any athletic with a donor with this level of commitment’ would work out how to do this
-
Chaves created this mess with the coaches he should be the one who takes the fall. I don’t know how he survived the Bubba contract debacle.
-
Albrecht wanted his daughter to play in a quality facility for her last year. UND didn’t approach him, he approached them. All UND had to do was meet his deadline for the facility and he was paying. UND athletics like to give themselves credit for this almost to a sickening extent. This was someone who came in and spent their own money so their daughter could have a last year in a better facility. The athletic department will take credit as usual when they’ve don’t next to nothing.
-
Albrecht told UND that if the project wasn’t completed by last fall the funding would be pulled so they had to get it done in a timely manner since he basically paid for the whole thing. UND did not have to do much.
-
The facility had everything to do with the donor and their pushing it through I know Stevens has said this for his part. The administration giving themselves credit for the work of a donor though is UND athletics through and through taking credit for the work of others.
-
I’m surprised that Stevens has made it even this far. He has been pretty vocal that the administrative don’t support softball and there are title 9 issues, and that Chaves has nothing to do with the new facility he actually had all the influence. Maybe calling Chaves out is another way to an extension.
-
If only Berry and his players were angry losers maybe they would win more games.
-
With all the coaching contracts about to expire in the same year as the athletic director 2026 could be a year to right the ship all around. But I do still wonder if the coaching is really that bad all over or is it the way the athletic director runs the department.
-
The whole department has gone down hill since Chaves arrived. You can point fingers at a program or two, but when this is across the board and every program stinks this is a leadership issue from the director.
-
I think the issues is Chaves has been rewarding subpar performances for years and don’t see him being able to buyout coaches before the end of their contracts after doing so with Bubba. The athletic director made this mess, time for the president to clean it up with a new director with clear expectations of what it takes for coaches to get an extension.

I agree
-
He has already made the decision. He's already had to explain to Armacost he had to pay Bubba out by creating a job for him. There is no way they can afford to pay out basketball and hockey coaches too. Plus he probably thinks this was a successful season so watch for a 5 year extension. Until Chaves goes UND does not improve it is that simple.

There would be a lawsuit for alcohol poisoning
-
Maybe you didn’t say it but that seems to be the status quo around here. Next year
-
wasn’t that said last year? And the year before? And the year before that?
-
He doesn’t care enough about the culture to step down. Like any person you will continue to collect your paycheck. This will come down to if the president has the balls to make the change because Chaves kisses Berrys ass.
-
The chants haven’t began yet
-
Is it too early to bring this back up?
-
The Softball team has had a better start to the season which has been good for them but the coach does not have a lot of positive things to say about Chaves and supposedly that is the general sentiment among coaches in the department. Regardless for anyone who follows UND sports it is obvious a change of leadership is needed for the department. If Armacost cares in the slightest about athletics he will bring in a new director. What was the verdict with the soccer title 9 case?

A split is a good weekend.
