  1. Hard to say, but I'd think he should be able to fit the system to the talent for the time being until he gets "his type" of guys in there. The trouble with the "doesn't have his guys" theory is what about the incoming recruits? He didn't have a hand in them, either. This could be a 3-4 year process if that's how we want to look at it.

There is plenty of evidence that these guys can play sound D. One would only need to pull up some film from last season to see what might work. To me it's up to the coach to put the players in the best position to be successful.

  2. My buddy called me and said, okay what do you think, I said okay, we'll go down to the rink today and you try and skate with me hanging all over you. You try to shoot with a me holding your stick. It's tough sledding out there and the guys have to take it up a notch. When they moved their feet they were past the defensemen and on the goalie.

Sorry Goon, I usually agree but I can't in this instance. Seems to me MTU has no trouble winning races to every loose puck because they are working harder, not clutching. They are picking off the dump-ins and having free reign out of the zone. UND is slow to transition and aren't doing anything well to create space.

  3. I like that too. Nice recruiting pitch...a message to Northern Michigan and Lake Superior Sate.

Has anyone noticed St Cloud State doing the same thing since Motzko took over? Their shoulder patch was changed to one of the outline of the state if Minnesota. It used to be the same logo as the main crest - the Montreal Canadiens wanna-be's.

Yeah, now that you mention it, I did notice that on the SCSU sweaters...nice touch.

  4. Easily over 10 years ago. The original Fat Alberts was closed before Ernie sold the name.

"Back in the Day" for me was college in the mid 90s. They were located right around the Columbia/Gateway Dr. intersection, weren't they? For some reason I seem to remember they never really made it back from the '97 flood.

  5. This team is difficult to get a read on, and it's for that reason I'm in no way going to attempt to predict what will happen. To me this playoff season is a "live in the moment" kind of event.

The "inconsistency" on display can go both ways, not just negatively!

  6. Back in my college days, I would get pretty ticked after any loss by the team. After a few seasons I realized that was a pretty rough way to spend my weekends if the team didn't manage a sweep.

Now, while I still get disappointed by losses (some more than others), I only truly am upset/ticked with one that ends our season.

I don't think that I am any less of a fan because of that. I roll with this team through thick and thin, wins and losses (sometimes a buttload of ties), good performances and bad performances. I don't normally bash the athletes or the coaches, mainly because they know a heck of a lot more about hockey than I do and because it won't do a darn bit of good anyway.

I bleed Fighting Sioux green and I believe that this team can win a national title. Will they? Who knows, I'll enjoy the ride either way. But maybe they can surprise some people in April and bring the big trophy back to GF.

This almost describes me to a tee as well.

  7. Just a random thought...

Stecher was willing to decommit from UNO when Hastings left, yet Hastings' MSU-M wasn't listed as one of his possibilities. It would seem to me that playing in the NCHC may have helped us get this kid.

Now...how keeping the remaining pieces of the "old" WCHA together would've changed things we'll never know.

    Just a little speculation...
