Hard to say, but I'd think he should be able to fit the system to the talent for the time being until he gets "his type" of guys in there. The trouble with the "doesn't have his guys" theory is what about the incoming recruits? He didn't have a hand in them, either. This could be a 3-4 year process if that's how we want to look at it.
There is plenty of evidence that these guys can play sound D. One would only need to pull up some film from last season to see what might work. To me it's up to the coach to put the players in the best position to be successful.

Yeah, the fact that there was ZERO reaction from anyone on the ice makes sense now!
-
Most of the time you hear coaches talk about being strong from the net-out. I almost feel it is the complete opposite with this squad right now. We gotta get the forwards working in the O zone and coming back to help the transition game. The D and goaltending will improve as a result.

My buddy called me and said, okay what do you think, I said okay, we'll go down to the rink today and you try and skate with me hanging all over you. You try to shoot with a me holding your stick. It's tough sledding out there and the guys have to take it up a notch. When they moved their feet they were past the defensemen and on the goalie.
Sorry Goon, I usually agree but I can't in this instance. Seems to me MTU has no trouble winning races to every loose puck because they are working harder, not clutching. They are picking off the dump-ins and having free reign out of the zone. UND is slow to transition and aren't doing anything well to create space.

Lately the entire crop of sophomore forwards + Rowney & Knight have been pretty invisible to me. The lack of sustained offensive pressure is worrisome. Also, it seems like for the last 5 periods we've been totally dominated on the first two shifts coming out of the intermission.
-
This has everything to do with the COMPLETE INABILITY to sustain ANY sort of pressure in the offensive zone.

I like that too. Nice recruiting pitch...a message to Northern Michigan and Lake Superior Sate.
Has anyone noticed St Cloud State doing the same thing since Motzko took over? Their shoulder patch was changed to one of the outline of the state if Minnesota. It used to be the same logo as the main crest - the Montreal Canadiens wanna-be's.
Yeah, now that you mention it, I did notice that on the SCSU sweaters...nice touch.
-
Seems like the type of penalty you're getting depends on the name on the back of your jersey.
Aww, c'mon... Everyone knows they check the name on the FRONT of the jersey first!
-
What a joke.

I like the UP patches on the left shoulder of the MTU sweaters.

Easily over 10 years ago. The original Fat Alberts was closed before Ernie sold the name.
"Back in the Day" for me was college in the mid 90s. They were located right around the Columbia/Gateway Dr. intersection, weren't they? For some reason I seem to remember they never really made it back from the '97 flood.

This team is difficult to get a read on, and it's for that reason I'm in no way going to attempt to predict what will happen. To me this playoff season is a "live in the moment" kind of event.
The "inconsistency" on display can go both ways, not just negatively!

I really want to see Rocco on that top line!!!!!!!!!!! The boys seem to come out with more intensity and our record is good with him on that line. I just don't get why HAK is messing with a good thing?
I'll go with the "he's messing with the other teams' film study" theory!

From now on lets call it the Duluth theory. Lose out, get rested, and win the national championship.
Does it only work though if you get into a cheap bracket?
The "Denver Theory" would be another step further: lose in the 1st round, rest up, then win it all...2004, I think.

Back in my college days, I would get pretty ticked after any loss by the team. After a few seasons I realized that was a pretty rough way to spend my weekends if the team didn't manage a sweep.
Now, while I still get disappointed by losses (some more than others), I only truly am upset/ticked with one that ends our season.
I don't think that I am any less of a fan because of that. I roll with this team through thick and thin, wins and losses (sometimes a buttload of ties), good performances and bad performances. I don't normally bash the athletes or the coaches, mainly because they know a heck of a lot more about hockey than I do and because it won't do a darn bit of good anyway.
I bleed Fighting Sioux green and I believe that this team can win a national title. Will they? Who knows, I'll enjoy the ride either way. But maybe they can surprise some people in April and bring the big trophy back to GF.
This almost describes me to a tee as well.

Parks from Rowney.

Well...not THAT bad...
-
I actually feel bad for the STA kids because they're good enough to win the AA tourney, but were never given the chance because those in charge didn't make the jump sooner.
-
Caggiula on top line with Kristo and Knight. Rocco swaps down to 2nd unit with Rowney and Parks.
Gothberg in net.

Would the NCHC logo work in the collar area of UND jerseys similar to the placement of the NHL patch?
-
Just a random thought...
Stecher was willing to decommit from UNO when Hastings left, yet Hastings' MSU-M wasn't listed as one of his possibilities. It would seem to me that playing in the NCHC may have helped us get this kid.
Now...how keeping the remaining pieces of the "old" WCHA together would've changed things we'll never know.
Just a little speculation...

Let me look at this from a different perspective...
As a WMU or Miami Fan, why should UND, SCSU, UMD, DU, CC, and UNO fans get priority over them for seat selection for the conference tourney?
Do U Mich, MSU, OSU, and PSU fans get first priority for the B1G tourney at the X? Why should UMinn and UW fans be afforded that luxury? Perhaps those "other" schools are given priority when their tourney is in Detroit, I don't know.
But for a tourney that is being held at the Target Center every year, I would think it would be a bit unfair to the new teams in the conference if their fans were left out of the "priority" ticket process just because we think we should have some sort of "carryover" from the old WCHA.
