  1. This is pretty much lateral move on his part and they have made NCAA tournament lately but under different coach but so had UND once in same time. Attendance may be 1000 more per game and big difference here this school has no football or hockey so basketball is king on this campus. I don't know but speculating this may be move because of location of the school closer to bigger metropolitan area to live than Grand Forks based he came from bigger city environment. I could be totally wrong reason on this but this transfer sure wasn't on playing at higher level.
  2. I was looking at verbal commits so far the offers that Simms and Ihenacho have received look to be pretty much lateral move to me. The question i have is they say one time move without sitting out a season so if they want to move after this will they have to sit for year unless their graduate transfer. If this is the case why would use up this option if your only going to move laterally especially for Ihenacho where his upside potential looks like he could become highly rated player. The Summit conference is as good mid major conference to develop your talent and if you want to go to power 5 school. I just think he was premature on transferring unless he just can't stand being in Grand Forks. I wonder if number of the transfer this year are going to turn out to be move in wrong direction and ultimate goal of getting good education paid for to start in the real world. I think Rebraca transfer is being done for right reasons he can get top education from playing basketball and he may have opportunity to play in big dance at power 5 school. This why fully understand and support Rebraca move and kids like him making best of their college careers they will be real winners of playing college athletics.
  3. South Dakota State looking at there roster they will have at least 10 to 11 players over 6 feet tall on their team for next year. Also see the latest recruits are all over 6 feet for NDSU and looks like South Dakota is recruiting some taller players for next year as well. These are top teams in the conference this year and looks like they either getting bigger or already there. I still think that UND will need to add one more taller girl for next year or we will have hard time matching up with these conference leaders. Looking at this upcoming year we will be counting on several freshman players to make major contributions not recipe for having big turn around season. My hope is that we can improve through the season and at least maybe play win one in the conference tournament but its going to take time now to get this team rebuilt.
  4. In the Above post i forgot to mention Hoskin the new transfer and she looks like she can play forward but would me more of small forward but i do see her stats she is good at rebounding. She does give more depth at forward but i still think we need poward forward if were going to match up with number of teams in this conference.
  5. Faraway you are right Roach is only junior this year but looking at other players it looks like they only have one position opening for this coming year with their latest commit. I would think they are looking for another power forward for the coming year and probably transfer somebody with experience. The point guard position will probably be filled by Wallace, Borowicz, and Sieben for the coming year and then Roach would be candidate year after. We will be very young at the forward postion this coming year with only Lane returning to the team and i guess Gordon could play some forward. The new commits of Anderson 5-11, and McCarthy 6-1 probably will be looked at to play forward but alot to ask of true freshman and be able to compete in the conference. The three centers we have will probably share the playing time at that position. Van Loo will need to step her game up some and Vander Wal we have no idea of where she will be at without playing this year. So this why i got to believe they have to be looking for experience power forward for the coming season. Unless we get bunch of transfers next season this will be our team because Leet position is already recruited with Roach coming next year and Wallace but here she gets back last year in eligibility granted to all the players. Bernhard will not have alot of moves for 2022-2023 in changing make up her team.
  6. oxbow 6 good observation and i have been one asking for a point guard but current roster now stands with Borowicz, Manson, Wallace, Lane, Orth, Gordon, Sieben, Roach, Hoskin, Anderson, and Mcarthy. I think this is correct that will leave us Leet, Lane, Van Loo., and Vander Wal. If i am wrong please correct me but i was going through lists and this is what i came up but i may be wrong. I hadn't realized all the guards Bernhard had recruited until i started going through the lists. We won't have alot of depth at forward spot compared to the past years. We will be caring three centers Leet, Van Loo, and Vander Wal. With Lane being only power forward on the list. We will have to be looking at some of the above guards to play small forward. Compared to last year when we had Fleecs, Lane, Zander, and Jarnot . I am curious what here plan is and what style of game she is planning to play with the current make up this team.
  7. I thought the article that Grand Forks Herald had Rebraca was good and explained his reason for his transfer. It also showed he was using his basketball talent to get max amount of education he could get. The sad part is you hate to loose individuals like him from your team because that is type of player everyone is looking for. I am happy for him and appreciate the effort time he spent here in North Dakota. Also i believe him that coach Sather has been good coach but times are changing with how players are more now in control of their college careers in the past. Like I have said in other posts there are number of reasons were having players transfer and each player have their reasons which we may never know. The transfer process is much easier than in past and with no waiting period to play players can move freely and has no effect on their basketball career or there time spent in college. It just made it much more difficult for mid majors and coaches to build programs but its going to be in the future.
  8. So how is this going to work for small mid major schools when you take a risk on developing talent and soon as he is developed he leaves the program. It will pretty much small mid major programs will be just farm team for major colleges. Its going to pretty much end of the dream for the small school having chance of advancing in the NCAA tournament. Will this lead to sub division in basketball like it is in football.
  9. Does anybody know how many scholarships we have open to give this year because we have number of players left or quit this year. I got to believe we have to look at getting some experienced players back also in the mix with loss of Zander , Jarnot, Fleece, and Renke other wise we will putting large number of true freshman on the court next year.
  10. I thought we had to get to 6 games to qualify for the playoffs so we got to get one of these last two games in to meet the criteria. Or are they just allow in any number of games to qualify for the playoffs. I wonder why now they just don't go ahead get the teams vaccinated with the one shot since most of the country has opened up getting vaccinating to everyone. This would end worry about covid because the teams would be as immune as possible and they wouldn't have to worry about testing anymore or contact tracing. I would think they could get this all done your only talking about between 5 to 10, 000 shots across the country for the football teams this spring.
  11. This loss now put's UND now with no experience at the small forward spot on the team with also the loss of Zander both of these girls were 5/10 were athletic and could handle ball either inside or outside and sure makes us much smaller team if we don't replace with some recruits similar. I would think this will become priority to do this now and there has to be girls like this in the portal. I wish Jaclyn Jarnot best i think she has had tough couple of seasons and i do think change for her and right coaching she could finish her career on positive because she has the tools become very good player.
  12. I am glad to see that she is looking to upgrade us at point guard and video on her looks like she is really fast. She is on smaller side but quickness is just valuable asset especially at guard but time will only tell how this recruit works out but i do think this very positive move in right direction. I thought Bernhard recruited several girls last year but i guess their doing this from when she was full head coach. I wonder if she goes for more high school recruits or will she get some needs from the portal.
  13. I got to believe he's leaving to play else where he will get some playing time because he can see that Sather will have to bring in portal transfers and with that is going to be guaranteed playing time. To me he's got to do some growing before he can play at this level wouldn't be surprised he drops down a level to division II gets playing time and experience to develop. He still has 4 years of eligibility left with year of practice time at division I level. This is going to get interesting because we could still see players entering portal yet before next year. This going look like musical chairs but i am afraid some of these kids may not find a chair to sit on before next season starts. I would also hate to be kid coming out of high school now alot of these kids are going to be recruited only for walk on basis with number people transferring this season.
  14. You don't seem to get it if they tried something of low balling her hire you would have federal lawsuit of unequal pay and opening yourself up to all types of lawsuits. Second is when she was hired for the position you made offer deeming her qualified to do this job all things your bitching about becomes irrelevant because she was hired with all those those circumstances happening before she was hired as head coach. If want to bitch about it goes back to AD and he will be held accountable for this hire knowing those things and still thinking she was best candidate for the job. Even here that is why he was hired to put together department he believes will do the best job for this university and if he doesn't make good hires he then will beheld accountable. It may not be choice you like but he is one hired to make these decisions and if you don't approve voice them to AD or President of the university but my guess is everyone in charge on this is going to see how this plays out it could be best hire possible in few years or it was mistake but nobody knows right now.
  15. I got to believe this salary within equal pay guidelines of University compared to other universities in what they are paying and it should be. I believe they hired her based on her qualifications and expectations for this position she should be paid the going salary if were going to become the top program everyone on here is wanting.
  16. According to GF Herald they say Summit has lost almost 30 players to transfer this year alone this is going to be huge loss of talent gone from the league or future talent from the league. also there are 881 players transferring now accounting for nearly 20% of the players switching teams in division I programs. This even before the NCAA tournament is only half over how many more players are going to be transferring. But getting back to UND Sather is now in total rebuild for next year and what is direction does he go is college transfer or does he go the high school route. He tried both last year and he has lost 3 of his last year recruits with only Sueker and Daniels remaining of his recruits. Rebraca tweet about Sather confirms there other reason's for kids leaving the program which has to get back to either University or present state in men's college basketball. I think its combination of both in that kids that they have big time talent its hard for them not to believe they might have better chance of showing there talents in larger market and also living in larger community where they feel they have chance to play in front of national audience not for just game in NCAA tournament but for season and even to make a run in the tournament. Then some transferring its just transferring to place where they will get more playing time because if your competitive you want to play not sit the bench and practice every day to sit the bench. It seems the other Dakota schools have kept their cores in place so far and are in best shape for next year. I got to believe these transfers has thrown monkey wrench into Sather's plan to build the program and he is got to be wondering how he should do it with how players are not committed to program for more than year.
  17. According to verbal commits (https://verbalcommits.com/schools/north-dakota) UND stands now with 3 commits, 4 open spots, and one open offer. If this is correct then UND could sign four more players before next year. This is going to make for interesting off season to start filling these positions.
  18. It may not be the coach but it could be Grand Forks the location both of these players are from bigger cities and with covid restrictions in place very little for young people to do here. My son is from here and he has stated there hasn't been much to do if your young to do. So many things are closed and if not from the area i got to believe you feel your trapped. I may be wrong but i think this is playing into decisions of these players i feel it too i am getting tired of all the restrictions especially since i have gotten my shots and young people healthy like they are haven't fear virus like of older people have. Enough on this but may not be the coach but just the community i had cousin who's girl looked at attending here from Washington she liked the school, the weather she could deal with, but what city could offer in shopping and socializing and things to do was the reason she didn't enroll. There are more than coaching issues why students stay or leave.
  19. If this starts to occur like this small mid major division I schools will be no more than farm system for power 5 conferences and kids that stay at that small mid major will not have the talent to compete against Large schools in NCAA. If this going be the case college basketball is not going to be what it is now and attraction of how small mid major can have tournament run is over. It will be interesting see what happens but Chaves did say there were big changes coming this year yet on NCAA could we be looking like we are in football with whole new subdivision for basketball.
  20. I think it has to do with what NCAA did this year giving a year and no sitting when you transfer. I got to believe Ihenacho is got to be thinking of going to the Minnesota playing at home. Also you look at where UND is at we were 5 in the Summit NDSU and SDSU look to be returning there top seven players and both have some highly reguarded recruits coming in its going to be hard to advance much. If Oral Roberts keeps it two top players they are going to be a third power house in conference. So i think some these kids are looking to move to where they can play or be on winner or power 5 conference team. On the Women's side we just went through 2 win season and if you have doubts about the program its perfect time to move on and find program that looks to have chance to win. Were in total rebuild now it looks like and it going to take 3 to 4 years to get there and if i was Zander would you want to play your career out never having opportunity to play on winner. There may be more factors also going on but that's what you get when you change coaches it takes time to build a program up so far the men haven't dropped so far down but on the womens side we have gone from 20 win team to 2 win team in four year span.
  21. I sure hate see Zander leave and other two recruits i think they didn't see much playing time so they probably looking for a place where they can get more playing time and wouldn't be surprised if they drop down a level. The loss of Zander is type of player we need to have on this team to rebuild it back to what it was not good sign to come for basketball program. Well with loss of these three players and three seniors this year we should have pretty good idea how well she does recruiting plus if its true Keplin is gone we will have turn over of 7 players for next year and then add in Lane girl and Wallace signed last year this team will pretty much be made up girls she recruited. I wonder if were not going to see more in the portal before next season. I was thinking we could rebound back sooner but now were looking at total rebuild and usually takes couple of years to get program built so we could see us at bottom conference for couple of years. Tom Izzo stated on his show that Chaves didn't want to have three coaches in three years for the program because he wanted stability but this may come back to haunt him he has two women's programs that are starting at bottom for next year and when he was hired both of the programs were at top conference and in three years there at the bottom of the conference. I sure hope this works out but task is getting harder as things play out.
  22. The games over and we need to move on but were going to need to look at what SU did to us today and better believe other schools are going to follow that game plan. Like the announcers said the 3/4 defense is vulnerable to tight ends and if you look they ran behind these tight ends they had superior numbers and size at point of attack in their running game. I was surprised we didn't have something to counter this and if they did it surely didn't work. Offensively i think we would have been fine if we could played on even basis but we fell behind like we did we had to leave what was successful for us. We showed we could run the football on them but what there offense did to our defense it left our offense with little time to run our sustained drives moving us into passing offense and becoming one dimensional making it much easier to defend. Side bar the missing of extra point took momentum away from us it was phycological downer after scoring the touchdown and going for it on the punt i think pass interference could have been called on it and probably would have been if it was at the Alerus the advantages of playing on the home field. If the latter had been called it would have been much closer game in the end. Also we are under sized at the nose tackle position to play a 3/4 defense something they need to work on in the recruiting process and maybe transfer for the fall season would be nice addition to the team.
  23. Let's review that class which were sophomores this year or Freshman repeats with current year not counting. Zander made some improvement this year but her shooting is still needs work with her struggling games to reach 30% and her outside shot was not there for the most of the season. Manson the next one is under sized both height and physically in that she gets pushed around because of her size but she is quick enough to play and if she gets good look can hit outside three. I think she will continue to struggle at division I level but i could be wrong if she is used properly. Borowicz the next recruit was hurt much of the season so hard to know where we stand here but when she did return did make impact at guard. I think she can play and most suited for the off guard but can play point some too. Kepler this year was missing in action played less than 5 minutes of the first game and never to be heard from again. She showed signs of being the off guard that could hit the 3 as Freshman but have to believe her future at UND may be in question. Especially when have not heard or seen much of her this past year. Lane after being hurt for large portion of the year still made big impact and definitely can become elite player for UND. I think she can improve and become force on inside for UND in the future. Van Lou played at the beginning of season and got hurt for later part of the season. She has some nice moves inside but on defense struggles to be quick enough to defend but has place on team as back up because of her size and presence in the middle. Overall this class has not over achieved but we have some very good building pieces if they continue to improve and its like they got redshirt year this year but also got the playing time. We still need to find point guard and power forward that is dominate in that you can look to either create a points or set somebody up and the same is true for the point guard. These needs i believe will need to be filled by recruiting not very likely players of this type are in the transfer portal and wanting to go to mid-major.
  24. I agree that Bernhard needs full support and even though i supported a change but once the decision been made i wish her success because i still believe she can become good coach i just think its going to take time to grow in the position. Chaves must believe she can become the coach for the future of UND. I will say that this past season one positive is that players did believe in her at least the ones that played this year. Lets hope we have more of normal year to get the program back on track. Side bar i see that Brewster as assistant coach for Idaho State will be in NCAA tournament this year.
  25. I think its just time to have fresh start and i think Bernhard just needs more time before she ready to take over a division I program. She needs more actual coaching experience and to have experience from different coaching philosophies only been under two coaches from the same tree to say . If other comments on the candidate are accurate looks like he has this varied experience and has been working his way up the latter. There's nothing wrong with somebody ambitious and want to get ahead and who knows what any candidate wants but we need somebody that will be successful and build this program up again to what it was high level women's basketball program and winner.
