Who really knows at this point.
Unlike the flu, we're driving blind with Corovid-19 due to its novelty. For example, what happens when Italy/China resume normal function and people emerge from self-quarantine? Are they headed for a 2nd round of infection?
One thing is for sure, like Dr. Michael Osterholm attested to, we need to stop thinking of Corovid-19 as a quick pass by. This could very well be with us for a long, long, time, albeit at a high/low level of contagion.
People can still 'live their lives' while large gatherings are prohibited. The two aren't mutually exclusive. Yea it royally sucks, (especially for our players) but shutting down large gatherings/sporting events is the prudent course of action; at least in the short-term considering we know jack squat about the virus. The lack of knowledge about COVID-19 is the elephant in the room.
Do we have an antidote? No. Do we have a full picture of the symptoms and severity? No. Do we know exactly how fast it spreads and how many people are infected? No. Do we know whether it will have a high propensity to mutate? No. Does this country have an abundance of testing supplies and access to such? No.
Nobody sane agrees with the hysteria, doomsday predictions and fear mongering in the media, but that doesn't mean serious precaution shouldn't be taken; at least until we have a solid understanding of the situation we're in.
As always, the middle-ground is the most rational.
The US was just hosed over at the Hlinka/Gretzky. We'd be playing for gold if not for an awful last second call favoring the Canucks. The team will play Russia for bronze.
Our guys' stats so far:
Mitchell Miller 4 0 3-3 2pim
Luke Reid 4 0 2-2 4pim
Michael Mancinelli 4 0 2-2 0pim
These last 2 pages have turned this into a shitstain of a thread.
Christ almighty, I come hear to talk about hockey, not to read the National Enquireror Grand Forks edition.
No, this is Gersich's replacement.
With Gersich gone we'll have exactly 15 forwards next year.....Adams, Bowen, Gardner, Hain, Hoff, Huber, JJ, Jones, Kawaguchi, Keane, Mismash, Senden, Smith, Weatherby, Yon.
It’s this 100%.
This program’s problem isnt a lack of blue-chippers, it’s the lack of production from the ‘ordinary’ recruit, particulary forwards. Guys like Pogo, JJ, Wilkie, Olson, Simonson, Hoff, etc. were fantastic junior players, yet they’ve not been able to elevate their game at the college level like similar level players have at other schools. Even our highly touted freshman forwards have been rather underwhelming to this point.
Makes one wonder if the problem is skill development moreso than recruiting.
When was the last time this program had a mid-level recruit (at forward) play a significant role in the offense as a freshman? Do we have to go back to MacMillan and Parks like 6 years ago?
Other programs always seem to have players like these.
If Randklev doesn’t we’re not done recruiting for next year. Gersich is almost certainly gone, that leaves 5 roster spots open at forward.
Hain, Keane, Weatherby, Senden, (Randklev?).
Tri-City's Filip Larsson commits to Denver. Huge pickup for Montgomery, the kid is tearing apart the USHL. From what I gather, he'll likely be Sweden's #2 at this year's WJC.
I always hate to hear about schools pulling offers, but it's probably the best option for Mattson in the long-run. He's a pure offense-first power forward who is having remarkable difficulties scoring at USHL level. Mattson would be way out of his element next year vs NCAA talent; a situation hardly conducive to development.
My son struck up a conversation with Gersich's grandfather (Broten) during the St. Lawrence series. He said Shane is all but gone next year. Apparently he was very close to signing with Washington this off-season, but, ultimately, decided on one last kick at the NCAA can.
Forever lurker, first time poster here. Would anybody have any color photos of the rare 71-74 or 75-78 editions, particularly the home jersey?
I thank you much in advance.
