Another valid point about the Bball vs hockey popularity debate is that most everyone in the country has picked up a bball and shot it (and realized how difficult it is to slam dunk). What % of the country has strapped on skates and fired a few slapshots? You don't really appreciate the speed and skill required to play hockey until you have actually tried it. For example, jumping out of a helicopter onto the top of a mountain in order to ski where they haven't/can't build a chair lift looks damn easy from my couch.

OBG, it isn't the #1 seed that's always in the Fri afternoon game, it's the Friday game that the Rodents aren't playing in. If the Rodents ever make it in as a #1 they would play Friday night and the #2/#3 game would be the early match.

No, if the Rodents enter the Final Five as a #1, #4 or #5 seed they would schedule the #2/#3 game for Friday afternoon, which is where it should automatically be anyway. One thing that has been overlooked, the prestige of the #1 seed playing in primetime. We all know what a great recruiting tool national TV exposure can be, especially when the sport in question has minimal exposure to start with. Teams work their a$$ off to earn the MacNaughton and are rewarded with a Friday afternoon game that, until this year, was never even televised.

About the only good thing to say about Shepherd is that he always tries to spread his incompetence around by making a bad call, then following it up by missing a good call, equally to both teams. That way nobody knows what to expect.

But have we really reached a point where money has to decide EVERY issue? Doesn't "the good of the team" and "a fair playing field" outweigh the almighty dollar? After all, there ARE nine other teams in the WCHA. I say, if the MacNaughton Cup winner makes it to the Final Five they should receive the national TV exposure. At least that way it is earned, not handed to them based on the distance their campus is from the Xcel.

The only issue I have with the Final Five at Xcel Energy Center is that they schedule the Rodents to play the late Friday game regardless if it's the #2/#3 or the # 1 vs #4/#5. The disadvantage to the #4/#5 winner that has to play a 1:00 p.m. game after playing the night before is a direct result of WCHA greed. It also denies the #1 seed of playing in primetime (if the Rodents are a #2/#3 seed). Like almost everything else in the world....money talks.
