Ok, I'll agree, Sioux fans do have great expectations for this team, and Parise. Only a few hours 'till game time. Time to light it up.

Interesting, still have relatives around here?

Hoping to pick it up on one of the Minot stations while traveling from Crosby to Westhope. Would guess you can get it on a Fargo station for much of the GF to Bismarck trip. Looks like there are 6 Fargo possibilities: http://www.undalumni.org/broadcast.htm

Thanks. One period at home and hopefully can find a clearchannel driving through the "dead zone" for the last two.

The game is in the afternoon? What time?? I may be around to listen to some/most of it.
-
Sounds like he may have made a good Bison "felon". Gotta love those "clerical" errors.
-
I'd normally do that, but I'll be at a HS football game. May be able to pick up a radio station from there (Westhope), or may be checking the USCHO score update board when I get home. Don't doubt somebody in GF will be listening and sitting at their 'puter. Won't they set you up with a 'puter and streaming audio at work? Sounds like a Minnie based gopher conspiracy to me

Yet another Parise article, in the October addition of American Hockey Magazine (can't find it on their web site usahockey.com). Full page on the last page under American Star. Much of the same as we've been reading (comparisons to father JP, comments from the Mac AAA tourney, etc). Lou Vairo, head coach of the US National Junior Team, compares him to N. Broten, "He reminded me of Neal Broten at the same age," says Vairo, who considers Broten of the the top three greatest American hockey players. From the article, The United States Hockey Report, an online scouting service, gushes over Parise's "eye-popping moves and bullet shot," projecting a 40-point freshman season for him a the University of North Dakota. Regarding the hype, the article ends with, not many have had to prove themselves as often - and as successfully - as Zach Parise has. Expectations obviously go far beyond those of Sioux fans, I think.

Nice green board; and since we have poetry, here's a leftover from 2000: The outlook wasn't brilliant for Hockey East on that day; When they started they had four teams but now one was still to play. When Goren scored the 2nd goal and Ulmer did the same, a sickly silence fell upon the patrons of the game. The future had been so bright, just 3 short weeks before; Two conferences had but two teams, Hockey East had boasted four. When AKPaul threw down a challenge, there arose a mighty roar; "Not only will one be crowned the champ, they'll all be in the Frozen Four." Then UNH was quickly beat, with BU soon to follow; "Ah ha" cried the doubters from out west, "don't your boasts now ring hollow?" "We are the best, we deserve respect," the western fans have sung; "If you would visit us, play us here, you would see the banners we've hung." Then from those posters in the east there arose a lusty yell; It rumbled from the eastern shore clear out to Wisconsin's dells. "We are not done, you will soon see, with Maine and BC to play; The talented Eagles and defending Black Bears for us will save the day. Then finally the games did start, 6 periods of brilliant play; No team could be declared a loser, but just two were to last beyond the day. The Eagles of Boston College, brilliant talent far and wide; The "rebuilding" Sioux of North Dakota, on a magnificent ride. Soon the puck was dropped, back and forth, the players streaking by; The wizardry of Jeff Farkas and Jeff Panzer on the fly. But with the goals, in the third, the eastern crowd grew glum; "If only Karl would let a third one in we'd have them on the run." Back and forth the puck was flung, from skate to board to stick; The tension in the stands and homes was palpable and thick. "Kill him, Kill the ref" someone shouted in the stands; And its likely they'd a-killed him had not Jerry raised his hand. With a smile of Catholic charity, great York's visage shown; He stilled the rising tumult, he bade the game go on. Once more the puck was dropped, once more the shots did fly; But to the disappointment of the Eagles, Karl would let no more go by. The Eagles were relentless, Farkas, Gionta and Bellefueille; Hobey Baker Mike Mottau, with Allen, played all day. Who would be the hero, help proud Clemmensen and his mighty saves; Those Eagles of Boston College, until the final buzzer, seemed to come in waves. Oh, somewhere in this famous land the sun is shining bright; BC's band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light. And somewhere men are laughing, and somewhere children shout; But there is no joy in Beantown, Hockey East has struck out..... (apologies to Ernest Lawrence Thayer)

You asked for it. So I'm not an artist

If the Sioux play Klosterman with a bad shoulder he may look something like, ah, Gorder. Nah, couldn't be that bad. No doubt the D that does best against the run will win the game.

I'd sure like to continue hearing what's been said on coach's shows. Don't worry about the POI posters; even after a successful year last year, there are a number of Goph fans still suffering from the previous four. Doubt that loud wining about Blais will change his style. Hope it doesn't impact what is posted on this board, either.
-
How 'bout that; Bombadir with the GWG in OT. Did Roche play?
-
Doubt that anyone will apologize for winning at home. Nor do I see any reason for fans of the winner to attempt to "defend" winning at home. Don't see the reason for Goph fans to go ballistic because someone attempts to "taint" the win due to being at home or winning because of, IE Maine getting a penalty while Hauser did not", yada, yada, yada. The outcome isn't going to change, the trophy will remain where it's at.

I'd only disagree about Ballard's ability to play good defense, when he is in position to do so. As good as he is offensively, he still appears to be a defensively liablility, as I saw him get burned often one on one in the Goph end on a good move by an opposing forward, including one that led to a Maine goal in the championship. Reminded me very much of the lean the wrong way we saw often by Schneekloth, including the lean on Kolanos that led to the GWG against BC. Think Ballard still has some problems defensively, although he will no doubt improve in that area. Goph posters were saying how well Martin played defensively, but I didn't notice one way or the other on TV, just noticed him up ice giving up odd man rushes often during the regular season. Still think Leopold was their only Dman who was very good at both ends of the ice.

Not so bad at all. Going back to Gino's early 80's teams, they did not have a Roche-like defensemen (Patrick had the ability but played more stay at home than either Roche or Murphy), but gave up only a minimum of good chances game after game. That didn't detract from their ability to make good outlets to forwards up ice. A more defensive style than we've seen recently but a successful one nonetheless. Despite Goph fans insistence that the Sioux have no Leopold, Ballard, or Martin, good defensive teams can have good success in spite of it; in fact, too many offensive minded defensemen can be a defensive liability against a 80's like Sioux team. I'd put the 82 Sioux team up against the Gophs of last year and this year, and wouldn't expect MN to win many times.

Not in great condition yet? Since practice (with coaches) started on the 24th, imagine their tongues are hanging out by now.

Digger, Don't believe the board allows use of html tags - just the tags above the add reply box, so, posting in columns is not possible, as far as I know. Possibly the moderator can shed some light on this; if html tags worked, the <PRE> tag would be the easiest to use to get columns to line up. But, your post looks fine anyway.

I'm hopeful for a top (1-3) finish for one reason. I don't think this team will play third periods the way they played them last year. Except for the home series vs. UAA and Kato, the Sioux looked really good for two periods in almost every game (that I saw), only to play exceptionally ugly in the third (I know, I've posted this often). The ugly third periods included those in the GLI, where the Sioux played excellent for two periods, only to go into the swoon in period 3; lucky to get those wins in OT. Never was the pattern of last year's team more apparent than in that huge lead at Wisco, who were playing ugly hockey the way they did so often last year, only to have the Sioux allow them to look like a national power with the period 3 back-in. So, once more, play good hockey in the third periods last year, and the Sioux had a good shot at being an NCCA tourney team. I'll be real disappointed if they don't finish in the top half, and even more disappointed if the third period D looks like it did last year. I think both Siembeda and Brandt are good goalies, and most of the "lots of rebounds" comments, and "less than stellar play" comments stemmed from the third period back-in. With your entire team standing (backed-in) in front of you, allowing opponents to easily gain the slot and fire shots through a Sioux created team screen, initial saves were a result of positioning and luck, because the G's sure didn' t see the puck. Little chance to control a rebound when you don't see the puck and are just hoping it hits you. If that doesn't change (and as I said I think it will) it'll be another tough year. Don't particularly like the NC schedule followed by being almost entirely on the road after Jan. 1, but the team should have a good record (actually have to have a good record) by the 1st. THe two SCSU series before Christmas should tell us something, as the series' prior to and around the SCSU series' are against fairly weak opponents for the most part. May be tough to change gears against SCSU, but will have to in order to have a chance at a top 3 WCHA finish.

Would guess it would go to rancher organizations, rather than wildlife funds, since bison are for the most part "livestock", in spite of Ted Turner (who's ownership is just a very large ranch).
