  1. Neither do I, but it was hiliarious to see "savior" and "another goalie" in the same post. Appears, anyway, that they need someone to kick some forwards butts to get them back into their own end occasionally. Probably still playing like they did in the championship game when UNH sent only one forward at a time into the MN end. No need for forwards to bother with defense the way UNH played.
  2. From POI: Even if Briggs end up being a savior, we need two solid goalies ready to play. Right now if one of our guys goes down we have the one known goalie backed up by Smeija
  3. Wooger's was mostly a "phantom" comment, as the assists on the goal when he spoke were more than obvious. But then a fair amount of what he says are distorted by what one sees on the TV He's funny in a bumbling sort of way, but it's obvious he's got it bad for the Sioux, probably a result of how well the Sioux did against the Gophs and in the nation when he was feeling the heat from Gopher fans just before he "quit".
  4. This is close but I don't think exactly what they wore at the HOF. http://siouxshop.com/catalog/product_info....products_id=368

    My Great Weekend

Neither did Pawlenty. Good to hear you made it back, hear lots of stories of "sound" shots taken by Minnesotans in the trees
  6. "They don't seem to want it," he said of the two-time defending NCAA champions. "They're a little lackadaisical." Perhaps realizing his comments sounded a bit negative, Pawlenty laughed and added, "It's early." He also noted that two or three questionable calls by the officials didn't help the Gophers' cause, "but I don't want to be a whiner." Then why are you?
  7. Woog made the comment after the Parise goal (2) on Friday night. Since assists were never announced (by Woog and FM) I had no idea why that goal brought about the comment, since an assist by Bochenski, and prior to that pass, the pass from a dman to Bochenski, were obvious (guess it was Greene). It put the Sioux up 2-0 and put Woog in a rather sour mood.

    My Great Weekend

Marvin looked to be the most victimized Sioux dman, a bit scary out there. After Schneider's whiff on Vanek, he really did not get beat again; other than the deflection off his skate (a hard work goal acccording to Wooger rather than the lucky variety the Sioux got the night before). The back check by Parise was super, and a perfect example of what Parise does that Vanek does not (at least not this weekend). He (Vanek) played like Spehar, although with a more offensive upside (upside wasn't there this weekend, but we've all seen it). I don't notice it when I watch the NHL, but are there high scoring Euro's on teams that don't play in their own end? Would seem that Vanek has a long way to go in using some energy to get back defensively before he will have a chance in the pros. Concerning the waived off goal, on TV in the live action and the first replay on FOXN, it certainly appeared that Greene had gloved the puck (although the shots were from behind Greene, so you couldn't see the puck). After those two shots, had to agree with Wooger that it was either a goal or a penalty shot. Then they showed the third replay from behind the net (Woog and Moz had made up their minds by then that the call was wrong and ignored the replay). The replay clearly shows the puck (which it looks like Greene tried to glove) hit Greene's upper arm, roll down to his forearm at the bend of his arm, then fall off as he (and the puck) were being cross checked, from behind, into the net. The whistle clearly went before Greene and the puck went into the net. With the aid of the replay, the correct call would have been no goal and a cross-checking penalty on the Gopher (Irmen??). Since Schmitt probably had no idea what happened, the call he made was strange. At any rate, both teams were lucky at the no goal/no penalty shot/no gopher penalty. Any of the three seemed more likely than what Schmitt did call. For any of you that taped the game on FOXN, take a look at the replays and see if I actually saw what I thought I saw? Dagies away from TV, audio, etc, on the Sioux/Gopher weekend? Better have been an important trip
  11. After watching the team this weekend, who would he replace. They all had a lot of energy at both ends of the ice. Be nice to have another goal scorer, but he'll have to show energy at both ends of the ice to break into this lineup (maybe he has in the past, I've not seen enough Sioux hockey to judge his past performances).

    PA & Dubay

Would guess it will be mostly talk about the Goph/Wisco football game.
  13. Nice page, Jim. Good place to look up the scoring progress. I doctored the "bill" a bit.
  14. Lucky I don't know you if you admit to having your tag filled by someone else. Would guess a deer on the roof wouldn't go over so big with some in GF, although it's common in the smaller towns
  15. Woog mostly avoided it until David scored last night, then was forced to throw in a few "blombs"
  16. He's not on the Milwaukee Admirals roster; however, in searching for him, I found Hrkac, who had 4 assists in the Admirals 8-2 win over the Aeros last night. http://www.theahl.com/AHLNews0311/07.html
  17. I agree with that (in spite of being nitpicky on the wandering, etc). Both have played well so far, hope it continues.
  18. JP did way to much wandering. Also, let the dman have the iced puck on the PP, start the rush behind the net. Too many long pass giveaways by JP helped stall the PP. Also, how did that bad angle goal go in; couldn't pick up the puck on the replay? JP looked to be in perfect position. PCM's article said it snuck in between the pad and the pipe, Minnie article said it deflected off JP skate?
  19. So how did Deervember weekend go?

The new Dubay schtick will be it's only Nov, remember what happened to the Sioux from Jan on last year, call again in April.

    Game 2 thread

Some defensive weekend for the team. Jones and Greene were super defensively. Almost lost in the good defensive play was the scoring by the two. Nice shot. A good photo of the less than stellar defensive play by the Gophs. Seems that some Gopher might have wanted to get to that puck rather than let Jones skate down low and shoot from that close. I love it when the Gophs play D like this
  22. Had the game on dataflix while listening to the SD football broadcast (where is that sioux broadcast?). A 35 shot shutout; another nice win for the women.
  23. Most gopher fans don't see hockey from a defensive point of view. It's all points and play in the opponent zone. A few of their forwards didn't find their own end all weekend. You're right, Leopold and Martin can play defense. They would not have made NHL teams right away if they couldn't. News flash, Ballard is not good defensively; he will need a lot of work before he'll stick with an NHL team. He whiffs as often as Mottau did in the 2000 championship. Good offensively, though, and he no doubt would have helped on the PP.

Better make SCSU and UNH #1 and 2.

Super third period for the Sioux. Very good defensive hockey without doing the total prevent. Outshot the Gophs 18-7.
