That sure as he!l is not a mathematical certainty. I guess you problem know more about it than the administrators at the big east schools though. I guess this contract really doesn't effect the situation though... Big east contract

And why exactly do you need specifics from Potts? So you can sit here and trash them? Believe it or not, if you're boss is angry with you, some of the burden of getting out of the problem is going to be on you. Chapman playing dumb about this whole thing is laughable. I'm sure he was "perplexed" by the situation. He definitely didn't know exactly what the problem was almost immediately. He was problem sh!ting himself that Potts took it this far, and was thinking that he probably shouldn't have pushed this hard. If you lose Potts, good luck getting another decent NDUS chancellor into that situation. Who wants to go to a place where your subordinates have more authority than you? And don't think all candidates aren't going to know exactly what the last chancellor left. When they get into ND, they are going to go for Chapman almost immediately to make him obey or leave. Nobody needs a mess like Potts has right now.

I'm sorry, but I don't think the assumption that people make is that Potts is having a tantrum. I think the assumption would be that there is a very serious problem between Potts and Chapman. I guess that assumption could only be made if you aren't an NDSU fan though. And "getting the money for NDSU to continue as a great institution, even if it means going above Potts head"? Wow, theres some spin. You word that like NDSU is on the chopping block. I'm not going to debate whether or not NDSU has equitable funding, but I do know 1. It takes more money to run a law and medical school than it does to educate typical students, and 2. There are 10 other schools that need money just as bad as NDSU wants it. Those schools have just as much right to be funded as NDSU does. Just becasue Chapman took NDSU D-I doesn't mean that NDSU deserves more money. I am absolutely sure that Potts has distributed money in the way that he thinks is best FOR ALL of the schools in the state, so that they are able to fullfill their missions for the WHOLE STATE. Why should NDSU deserve more than those schools? UND gets more funding per student because UND has to run more expensive programs in order to fullfill their mission. I really can't blame potts for being pissed about doing his job to the best of his ability, and than having everyone but good ol' joe work within their constraints. ND is not a rich state, I'm sure all of the schools would love more funding for their programs, but they can't get everything they want. Why should NDSU go outside of the educational system to get more money? Do you really want a system where every school is out to screw the other schools out of funding. Maybe the schools could start using their money to hire lobbyists for the ND legislature, so that they can try and get extra money. That would be an awesome system, schools trying to screw each other instead of cooperating. Doesn't get any better than that. You seriously have no idea what is going on, and yet you do everything you can to trash Potts and support Chapman. Maybe you should wait until more facts are available before trashing somebody who is gambling with their job. Wouldn't now be the time to support the NDUS, if you want whats best for the state? NDSU can get a new quality president pretty easily.

What do you think, that Potts is some moron that does stuff like this for the fun of it. How many times has he threatened to quit his job for something besides Chapman? How many times have the people in the entire ND education system threatened to quit there jobs publicly over another person in the history of the state? Potts seems pretty serious, and I would guess that maybe, just maybe, something a little more significant than a tantrum might be going on. I know it might be hard to imagine that the living God that took you D-I might not be perfect in every way imaginable, but just think about it. Jobs like Potts don't come around to often in the country, and the fact that he willing to give up that job says a lot about what is probably going on. Its not every day that a man is willing to give up a position that pays approximately $200,000 (don't tell me about the great settlement, it isn't nearly as much as his future earning potential), is probably the culmination of his lifes work up to this point, and will most likely have to uproot his family, over a simple tantrum. I know you're big fans of NDSU, but come on, I haven't heard any of you even admit that Chapman could maybe be out of line. I don't know why everybody thinks that Potts needs to prove something to you. He's the one looking at giving up his job, hes the one taking all the risk of leaving, do you think maybe chapman could maybe just admit that he isn't the head of the system, and that NDSU isn't autonomous, since neither is true? The only reason not to is ego.
-
So... all chapman has to do is say that his boss is his boss, and this whole situation goes away? So whats the hold up?

I was speaking in terms of Mens basketball only, not overall.

I thought I remembered him getting arrested in Sioux Falls when he was with the sky force from an altercation with a guy. Was that incorrect, or is he still playing with another professional squad?

I didn't say she had to keep dancing, but just because I don't want to dance with her doesn't mean that I did something wrong. And just because I didn't dance with her doesn't give her a legitimate reason to bad mouth me to everyone that will listen. Or to try to break up and relationship I get into after her. Or to keep trying to hang out with me when I go to my more popular friends.

Northern is waaaayyyy down this year. I think they graduated almost everybody from last years team. UND should have a decent shot of winning that one, even though Myer did bring in two excellent SD players, you can check them out on the dakota schoolars page.
-
Not to be an a$$, but right now in basketball those schools are your peers. I hope you're new coach has some decent players coming in. I really miss the old UND teams. I've also got to say the Jerome Beasley is my all time favorite NCC player, it's too bad he wasted his future. It would have been great if he could have made it with Miami. I know that all of you would love hearing Jerome Beasley.... University of North Dakota during the finals right now.

Yeah, you're right. I'm sure they appreciate all of the scheduling help over the last few years. Especially in basketball and football, where a grand total of 0 teams has played them from the NCC. Wow, what a great help. Especially Mankato dropping NDSU in football, I'm sure they really appreciated that. Oh, yeah, there might have been a few legislater's in both SD and ND that did everything they could to stop a move to D-I. Oh, yeah, and then there's those fantastic editorials that have been presented by several different news papers absolutely trashing a move to D-I. You don't think any of that from NCC schools was screwing them? You think that NDSU and SDSU were the ones that didn't want games during the beginning of their transition? You think SDSU wouldn't rather be playing an NCC school instead of the NAIA crap they bring in. You think NDSU wouldn't rather be playing an NCC school than concordia st. paul? I'm sorry, but its blatantly obvious that the NCC did everything they could to hurt NDSU and SDSU on the way out. Or how about the NCC trying to implement a new fine before SDSU had time to move D-I, rushing their decision (the same fine UND will probably have to pay ironically). I'm not saying that it was right or wrong, that definitely their perogative, but don't say that they didn't try to hurt them. They had the choice to help or hurt, and they made their decision. I can see how they screwed the NCC though. I mean, NDSU waiting a year to move, trying to get the whole NCC to go with them. SDSU and NDSU bringing up a vote for a D-I NCC, which UND shot down. Yeah, what a screw job by those schools. Trying to get them to move up in mass, so everyone could avoid this mess that is currently happening. Every single word of this post is fact. You can cry about how "but their the ones that left us... blah blah blah", but the truth is both of those schools tried to get the whole NCC into D-I at the same time, and when the refused to go, they left the conference. What else were they supposed to do? Wait for the finances at Mankato to get better? Hope that USD became title IX complient? It's idiotic that I even have to revisit all of this, I thought this whole situation was known as facts. NDSU and SDSU had every right to leave the conference, and they tried their best to keep the conference together, and to avoid the NCC having the problems it is right now. The rest of the NCC administrators were the ones that failed to realize what was going to happen, and their the reason that all of the schools are in a precarious position right now. It wasn't NDSU, SDSU, or UNC's job to worry about the rest of the NCC, and that doesn't mean they screwed them. They gave them EVERY CHANCE IMAGINABLE to help the conference. All parties concerned could have had better football schedules by keeping the SU's on the schedules. And don't tell me it wasn't fair becuase of scholarships or rules. Duluth and Mankato had no problem playing UNI. Oh, wait, I'm sure it was because of the D-II play off committe right? I'm sure that Mankato was reaaaaallll concerned about there annual title run being in jeopardy. Give me a break, if you can't see that there was an NCC ban of NDSU and SDSU, then you're crazy. And if you don't remember the NCC votes to move the conference to D-I (where UND voted no), then you either don't know, or are revising history. You sound like the little kid and his mom crying that the family is breaking up because his older brother is going to college. Yeah, its sad, but there comes a time when a person or school has to do whats in there best interets too. It doesn't mean that the little brother or mother got screwed, but if they choos not to write or talk to his older brother for the next couple of years, they shouldn't be expecting a real warm welcome either. This is all history anyway, get over it. I'm pretty sure the admins at NDSU and SDSU currently LOVE the position that there in, and they will be set if a mid con invite comes their way. The rest of the NCC can fight it out, although UND will have the best chance with a years headstart.

Do you have any idea what you're talking about? Obviously not. I'm not going to waste anymore of my time educating you on this. You can figure out yourself, or wallow in ignorance. You should start by checking to see which school in South Dakota Daschle graduated from. Wait, maybe Viniteri can fund a new football stadium for USD too!!!!! You're making a fool of yourself, you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. Oh, I've got a better idea, maybe NDSU can build a new basketball facility by contacting the Englesteads!!! Man I'm genius!!!!

OMG. Well, after that incredible response, I think I'm beat. I'll resign from this topic now. Its not every day every point I make is responded to with nonsense. I mean, come on, you just asked me why their current budget matters? Why "they're title nine now, why wouldn't they be when they move up"? You clearly don't understand my point about the baseball team being dropped (Hint: It falls under finances, which apprently don't matter). You used Savannah state as a model for them? Its just mind blowing.
-
What? Pretty sure both schools were just fine before the great west even existed, so they dont NEED games in minnesota to survive.
-
Davis and Poly have OOC games with the big sky. Who do the Washington schools have? The NCC has the closest games to them, so they would be going there anyway. This way they have guarunteed games. Poly and Davis on the other hand, dont have to come to the dakotas as games against, NAU, Sac State, EWU, Montana, Montana State, UNC, etc. would all be closer. And thats not including the I-A money games that both schools want to schedule. The cali schools dont need to come here, but once a season that gets you two games works out pretty well for them.
-
Im sorry, but what?
-
Oh my God, yes I am so against a school that I have a degree from. I cant believe I even have to argue that. So USD is moving up pretty soon, huh? Theres so many reasons its not going to happen I can even start to go over them. Heres some things to look up, get back me on it. 1. Whats USDs athletic budget? 2. Whats USDs proportion of male and female populations, which dictate title nine scholarship levels. 3. Whats USDs current facility situation. 4. How likely is the board of regents to let USD move up, after how much trouble SDSU had. 5. How long ago was it that USD had to drop baseball because of a lack of funding. Wait, Im sure I just made those up because Im sooooooooooooooooooo jealous, and such a biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig SDSU fan! Yeah SDSU LOL. Mplsbison, you should go talk some more about how D-II is going to disapear, that was a brilliant topic on the NDSU board. Starcity, you really want to side with him on this? I mean come on, you usually have pretty good arguments, but I would be a little worried if I was agreeing with mlpsbison about anything.
-
You guys are right, Cal Davis and Cal Poly are all for flying to the Dakotas four or five times a year. Starcity, that doesnt even make sense. If the ex-NCC schools are D-IAA, then the great west schools can schedule them anytime they want OOC. What advantage is there to tying the cali schools into coming to the dakotas four or five times a year. If they want more games with those schools, they can get them. So why should they be added to the great west? Do you really think that the california schools want to be in the ex-NCC? No, and theyll drop out before they are. If youre NDSU or SDSU, who do you want in your conference, cal poly and cal davis, who have been great transition partners, or the ex-NCC who screwed you? Think about it. God, I didnt even say UND wasnt going to be in. I think your guys love of the old NCC is blinding you to the obvious. The great west doesnt have an obligation to every school moving up. It was created by the current schools to help the current schools.

Yeah, I would agree too, once the midcon is at 10, there done. Determining the league winner would be a nightmare every year, since not all teams would play each other every season.
-
This isn't a criminal investigation. You act like the NCAA is the government. Its a CLUB or ASSOCIATION. You don't have constitutional rights in it, just as you aren't forced to be a member of it. You don't like what there doing, than go NAIA. They won't have a problem. I know it sucks, and I don't necessarily agree with it, but thats reality.
-
Calm down, pretty sure I didn't insult you in any way or form. I just asked a question, and stated my thoughts on it. Maybe you should do like I've done and take my post and highlight where I've insulted you. Second, what you've said makes no sense. Because the north dakota state seal has american indian imagery on it, Illinios doesn't want to join UND in a law suit. I guess I'm not really seeing the correlation there. But I guess I deserve it for being such a tool. God forbid if someone has an outside view point.
-
I agree with you, and I probably should have said that before. If another west coast school was added, that would likely add another place for a former NCC school to join also. The problem will be finding that school though. I think San Diego would make a great addition, but if it gets to the point where the great west has an auto bid, I could see sac state joining, along with joing the the same all sports conference that Cal Davis is in.
-
My point is that NDSU and SDSU can schedule those schools and save massive amounts of money OUT OF CONFERENCE. Why would NDSU and SDSU thow away guarunteed games against the california schools, when they can get out of conference games against the old NCC anyway? There's nothing for NDSU and SDSU to gain by admitting those schools. They will have games against them anyway, plus an added advantage over those schools of having a conference. Tell me one benefit that the SU's have by seeing any of the other NCC schools in the great west besides the first one to move up. There aren't any. They would be simply replacing Cal Davis and Cal Poly with Mankato, USD, and St. Cloud. The same schools they are currently trying to move away from. The SU's have a good think going right now with the great west. Why would they give up probably the two most competitive and potential filled schools in the conference, to admit three schools that aren't even sure if they can fund a full alotment of scholarships? Theres absolutely no advantage to it for either school. On top of that, they would both be losing a large recruiting area in pretty much the entire western united states, only to have more schools in minnesota to compete against. Don't believe me? Look how many arizona kids SDSU has signed. How many western kids are on NDSU's roster? Tell me one advantage the SU's gain by having the old NCC admitted to the great west? They certainly don't owe any of those schools a favor after their nice boycott during the toughest years of the transition. There's one spot in the great west open right now. The first school to move will take, after that, everyone else is screwed.
