HF Draft Reviews - still to come... forbort-LA, nelson-NYI, macmillin-MTL, odonnell-TB, gothberg-BOS More on each player if you follow the links Michael Parks - Flyers - 2011 recruit Michael Parks , RW - Cedar Rapids RoughRiders (USHL) 5th Round, 149th Overall 5'10, 184 lbs The 5'10 St. Louis native Michael Parks grew up watching Patrick Maroon, another Flyers' forward prospect who comes from the same region, but they are in no way similar players. The quiet Parks is a small, soft-spoken forward who always plays the game at full speed. Unlike the much bigger Maroon, who is not the best skater, the 18-year-old Parks uses his speed and skating to bring a steady offensive attack and keep opposing defenders uncomfortable. Nick Mattson - Blackhawks - 2011 recruit Nick Mattson, D - Indiana (USHL) Drafted: 6th round, 180th overall Height: 6'1 Weight: 189 Though he was ranked much higher in the 2010 draft class a few years ago, Mattson slide has been precipitous. He committed to North Dakota at just 15 years old but has yet to live up to the early hype. A lackluster year for the Indiana Ice may have contributed to his slide, with just five goals and 14 assists in 51 games. He was able to step up his game in the playoffs, where he added six assists in nine games, but Indiana was nonetheless eliminated in the second round by eventual league champion Green Bay.

cbc - forbort #7 With more than a handful of skilled prospects up front (Drayson Bowman, Zach Boychuk, Jiri Tlusty) look for the Hurricane's to do something to shore up the backend. At 6'5, Forbort fits the bill. The big, strong defenceman turned heads this year, showing how well he could get around the ice with his huge frame. Described as still being "raw," Forbort reminds some scouts of Buffalo stalwart blue-liner Tyler Myers. Forbort is committed to North Dakota next season. wch blog draft prospect profile - gothberg There's a high amount of risk in drafting a goalie--especially out of Minnesota where the list of NHL goalie alums is very unimpressive--but Gothberg's talent will be too much for a team to pass up. The third round is probably the most earliest Gothberg could go, but he will most likely end up in the fourth round or later. Whichever team drafts him will end up with a talented player and they'll have the opportunity to let him mature and develop for a long time before having to make a decision on signing him.

TSN - Bob Mckenzie top 75 for draft #11 - Derek Forbort #34 - Brock Nelson thehockeywriters.com - Derek Forbort #18 He has a bullet slapshot and can lug the puck out of his zone efficiently, if not elegantly at this stage of his development. He is a tremendous athlete who reads the game well. Derek has committed to the University of North Dakota, the strong NCAA program, for the fall of 2010.

The draft is 9 days away and the sioux have 6 potential draftees and 4 that could be taken in the first 3 rounds or so. Here are the players and some new mock drafts from nhl.com and other sources. As of now it seems Hall and Seguin are locks for #1 and #2 June 25th in Los Angeles (Round 1) 7pm est on Versus June 26th (Rounds 2-7) 1pm est NHL Network HF mock draft Forbort - 11th to Dallas - A 6'4 two-way blueliner who is expected to attend the University of North Dakota in the fall, Forbort should help replenish a defensive pool that has grown increasingly shallow. Nelson - 20th to Pittsburgh - The Penguins lack a pure-finisher among their forward prospects. Nelson, a strong two-way forward who is scheduled to attend to University of North Dakota, could fill that void. NHL.COM - Mock Draft #1 Forbort - 15th to Boston Nelson - 30th to Chicago NHL.COM - Mock Draft #2 Forbort - 7th to Carolina NHL.COM - Mock Draft #3 Forbort - 17th to Colorado Mock Draft Database - Multiple Mocks Locks to get drafted Derek Forbort (D) - Duluth, MN --- 7-18 first round range from mock drafts Brock Nelson (F) - Warroad, MN --- 20-30 first round range from most mock drafts or first couple picks in 2nd round Zane Gothberg (G) - Thief River Falls, MN --- have seen mentioned as possible 3rd rounder to 5th rounder Nick Mattson (D) - Chanhassen, MN --- kind of a tough one here, have seen 2nd round to 4th round Potential other Picks Michael Parks (F) - O'Fallon, MO --- potential late round pick Mark Macmillan (F) - Penticton, B.C. Canada --- potential late round pick 1st Round Draft Order 1. Edmonton Oilers 2. Boston Bruins (from Toronto) 3. Florida Panthers 4. Columbus Blue Jackets 5. New York Islanders 6. per brad http://www.areavoices.com/undhockey/ It should be noted that Sports Illustrated is distributing two versions this week. Some will have Toews on the cover. Others will have Stephen Strasburg. Toews started the year on the cover of ESPN The Magazine and ends it on the cover of Sports Illustrated. not a bad year for mr. toews
