Given the size of their investment, maybe (maybe?) ESPN will start giving college hockey better quality coverage. And maybe a herd of unicorns will appear in my backyard.

Then it might be time to reach into the Bag of Cliches: "make them defend" "play a full sixty" "make every shift count" "improve our zone entries" "defend the blue line" "play below the dots" "improve our play away from the puck" "finish our chances" etc etc...

The old neutral-site format made a lot of sense in the old WCHA. That tournament was a destination, knowing that the Sioux, the Gophers, and the Badgers were all (likely) going to be there. For a period of time, it was arguably a better tournament than the NCAA tournament. But the old WCHA is gone. The mystique of its conference tournament is gone too. Now the reality is *likely* this: if UND doesn’t make it to the conference championship game, the NCHC loses money because not enough fans show up. So moving the tournament to campus sites is the only reasonable alternative.

Crappy way to go into the break. Hopefully it makes them better for the second. This team is still a work in progress despite its first-half success.

UND has talent, but they have to outwork teams to be successful.

Same thing in Denver. Friday night’s game is an Altitude Sports production, very sharp. Saturday’s game is not on Altitude Sports, so just an NCHC.tv production I guess. Same cameras but not as good. So odd.

Whenever I see the word “terrible” I say it in my head with the voice of Charles Barkley.

Maybe my memory is playing tricks on me, but wasn’t there a Gopher team in the past decade that was ranked #1 at about this point of the season, then ended up missing the national tournament? If I’m wrong don’t tell me. It’s a pleasant memory.

Disappointing ending, but 4 of 6 points on the weekend.

Time to dig deep.
