  1. He noted almost immediately after accepting the job that the pace of being an NHL bench boss was going to take a lot of adjustment, but it seemed to have come pretty quick for him. Don't think he had much of a choice on that front. He had access to the highest level everything for three years and that's what he knows now. This is one of so many grand assets that a college team would have bringing him back in maximizing time during the week between practices and workouts.

The unfortunate thing about the Herald is that it can no longer be considered a source of objective information.  And that's not good for a newspaper.

They've dug their heels in and, at this point, many people will just assume bias in articles.

The Herald has shown a consistency in bashing Kennedy, so it was a no-brainer for Engelstad to reach out to them.  The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

Couldn't agree more, besides Andrew Haffner's POTY article coming into the new year. Made mention of this last week in the Engelstad article thread.

  3. So Mark Kennedy, The Grand Forks Herald's 2017 Person of the Year as printed on December 31st, 2017, is probably the most hated man in Grand Forks and the Greater RRV at this point. Anything to push newspapers. His unpopularity across the UCF interview, clashing heads with Ray Holmberg, and now this article speak to my claim, even though we all know it lasts far longer than that.

PS - I'd be really sad to see Hesham leave CEM; he's been a great and effective leader. But, I can't begrudge a person looking to advance their career. No, wait, I said the same about Kennedy ...

I've personally worked with Hesham and can say he is one of the brightest, most pleasant people to have in one's presence. This would be a big blow to our campus.

One question that I'm taking away, though, is why Peter Johnson can't UNofficially leave his post. He was the Sean Spicer of UND.

I'd fire him tomorrow.  Buy him out- we had NHL talent on the pp and we sucked

How outlandish. He constructs and modifies when needed. We have a ton of talent that employs our PP, but to nod him off like this is unnecessary. Use the off-season to our advantage by heading back to the drawing board, and building from the ground up based off what our team next year is going to have. We cannot discount him after a not-so-good follow up to a national championship. If this becomes a pattern year over year, then maybe we should revisit the discussion but there's no reason to even consider getting rid of Shaw.

I still remember the first time I saw him play. Instantly my favorite player on the team.

Why this sticks in my memory so well I don't know, but his goal against CC, second game first round of NCHC conference tournament in 2014. Besides the national championship celebration and the OT winner against Air Force last year, I don't remember a more loud crowd inside the Ralph. Granted I'm only a senior in college, but it was absolutely insane. Love Stecher, always will. Incredible athlete on and off the ice.

This team still controls its own destiny. There is no room for error anymore and the playoffs start this weekend. They need to have the lose and you're done mentality. I may be delusional, but I still like this teams chances this year. Win on Friday night and lets go from there. I keep saying it after every weekend, but puck luck, whatever you call it, this team is better offensively than they've shown.

    Nope.

    Win this shift.*

    That's all there is.

*That's a rip-off of the "make 'em snap it again" of the UND Football defense mantra.

They need to boil it down. Play simple. Play greasy. Take it a game at a time.

AJS and GS have a good mindset. If it's something that the entire team can get behind, that's a fantastic part of the recipe needed to get us through the rest of the season. I am a little bit more behind Sic's mentality though, knowing the flow of the game. We might have less high caliber talent this year overall but we've seen Gersich continue his success from the end of the year last year into this year and he is lighting it up.

There's absolutely no reason to give up on this team. We've struggled this year without a doubt, but fans showing less support (which is clear, especially here on SiouxSports) as a result does not help one bit. One shift at a time, one game at a time, full attack playing some TRUE North Dakota hockey, and we see success.

  9. The issue is here is the way our team is playing leads us to believe they're settling for being a bubble team, despite the amount of talent that we have. In 2014 luck was the pot of gold we struck by getting into the tournament and all of a sudden we made it to the Frozen Four. The boys need more motivation. Every year, feasible goals for us are to win the conference, win the tournament, and reach for a national championship but I'm not exactly sure how "bought in" many of the guys are right now, and this is the worst time we should be suffering from any amount of apathy.

The football program fully embraced the sioux nickname and logo.

because their LEADER welcomed it with open arms and sent a positive message to his team, who bought into it. Bubba is the man. Bubs seemed to let Faison do the talking as far as the nickname concern with the hockey team. Above it and beyond it though, there's absolutely no reason they should let the petty politics of a nickname change the winning and prideful tradition that is UND Hockey. Always has been.

Tim's a great play by play guy but I've noticed lately his voice sounds like he's aged 25 years.  I keep wanting him to cough or clear his throat, I guess we all get older.

Noticed the same thing and I heard it in his voice even last year a bit. I love Tim and am not judging him for the decision but it's his smoking habit that's really seems to be taking a toll on his speaking. He and his wife are both regulars where I work; he usually comes in smelling like cigarettes.

Notice Minnesota didn't have games like that this year? The fans were pissed about it so they allowed Minnesota to have their games on Friday and Saturday nights. I can guarantee that if UND wants Friday-Saturday at home they would 100% get it.

Minnesota doesn't make up the whole conference, pal. And, just as the initial post said, a majority of the games were played between F/Sat, however ALL teams but UMinn had games on Thursday against either conference or non-conference opponents. With exception to the annual exhibition game against Manitoba, UND in recent years has only played a couple of Sunday games, one being last season at MSU, another in Omaha a few years ago, and the stray playoff tiebreaker against CC back in 2014, which is a special circumstance. Sure, we can make requests all we want, but the point that I'm still trying to convey is that there are many different perspectives that need to be taken into account here.

How about sharing million$ in tv revenue?

Who cares? Has anybody considered the economy of Grand Forks if this change were to go through? Their scheduling is different. While Fridays and Saturdays are a majority they play many more Thursday and Sunday games, which wouldn't bode well for the Ralph.

    This isn't going to happen.

A friend with a "source" within the Gophers said that UND will be offered a Big 10 spot after this season, if they say no then it will go to UMD or UNO (in that order).

As much as I'd rather keep the NCHC as is, has anyone heard anything about this from the Sioux hockey side? I could see the current administration doing it of it saves money or makes us more money.

Please don't tell me that Dilks article actually has people up in a tilly. The amount of inaccuracies in there is sad.

This isn't going to save money at all. Travel costs will go up. UND is a committed member institution of the NCHC; we have no reason to realign conferences even with our budget mess.

Actually, McFeely has been very harsh with NDSU over the years. It got to the point where Craig Bohl refused to come on with him because of some things he said on the radio.

My apologies, should've picked a better term. Affiliated with.
