A lot of cupcakes seemed to work out for ASU.

Not much of a choice being independent. Pumped to see them capitalize on their endowment. The evolution of that team over the last few years has been fun to watch.

Per Schloss, it would appear that the non conference games for next season are:

    Home:

    Manitoba (exh.)

    Bemidji State

    Canisius

    Alabama Huntsville

    Michigan Tech (1 game)

    Road:

    Minnesota

    Mankato State

    USNTDP under 18 (exh.)

The home schedule looks less than inspiring.  Not sure what the thought process is in scheduling both Canisius and Huntsville.  They’re both usually bottom feeders in the pairwise so beating them is of no help while a loss is a killer (as we have seen this year).  On top of that there is just no appeal to go see those teams play.  I would much rather see them play almost any big ten or hockey east team.

I agree completely with the Huntsville and Canisius sentiment. It's expensive and, at best, a schedule filler that could have a detrimental impact in the event our boys don't show up to play. Anybody feel free to correct if I'm wrong, but I believe when we have a series against an atypical opponent, no matter the host, they do their best to duplicate that series at some point in the other building. Multiple drivers here (offset travel costs, guarantees non-conference scheduled games, etc.).

I do know it didn't happen the last time UAH was in town. Was at that series a few years ago and it was uneventful. As many of us know their program has been shaken up a couple times this past decade with threats of being shut down or moving out of the NCAA ranks. For all reasons, a tough opponent to schedule with, but if anything good exposure and experience for everyone.

Donte Lawson from Greenway being mentioned anywhere?  I know he was a bit smaller, but elite has him listed at 5-10, 170 now.  Put up  36g last yr. 27 this yr.  Had a hat trick and 2a in the section semi.

If he put up 2.64PPG last year, just over 2 this year and isn't in the juniors, there has to be more to the story.

Got it. I wasn't saying you were blaming him, just to clarify. I thought you were going with the idea that Bubbs was being blamed for everything and thus, joking about that.

Ugh. Sorry I jumped too hard. Been a rough few days on here, by me lol.

Haha, all good man. We're here for the same reason; credit to you on conveying our mutual line of thought when trying to identify the crux of this season's woes.

    I miss UND being good.

but seriously, I do miss the good ole days where UND, Wisco and the Goofs were all top teams. Old school WCHA was the absolute best conference. Honestly, its not much fun to see the Gophers struggle for more than a few games either. You want the teams you hate to be good, because it is that much more satisfying when you beat them.

Considering the caliber of upcoming recruiting classes between us and Wisco, along with a bright outlook on UMN's rebound after this season, I don't think we're that far off. Keeping it sustained, however, is another topic.

From one of Brad's stories for Friday Ice Time:

Jones, whose goal drought is only at five games, might not have a chance to get back on track this weekend. The senior center practiced most of the week but didn’t go Thursday and is questionable for tonight.

If no outright suggestion of injury, likely sickness and hopefully ready to go again for tomorrow. (AKA Bubs had an early week hoorah kegger with the boys and a couple of casualties were had)

How long have you lived in ND? This is not record level cold. 10 minutes? This windchill hysteria has gotten ridiculous. They don't even give the actual temperature anymore.

Couldn't agree more. Just a few years ago (school year 2014-2015) I remember a handful of walks to 8ams in January where normal air temps were -28F. Class getting canceled wasn't a discussion, much less a thought on my mind; we just dealt with it.

Dealing with the same thing down in the cities. Put up with these same freezing below zero temps in high school, fully expected to go to school and now most of the metro area has it off through Thursday. The level of sensitivity continues to rise almost faster than political correctness these days.

About that ... Harrison Feeney is 20 today and his DOB is Feb 4, 1998.

If he came in this fall he'd be a 21 year old freshman. I forget the rule about coming in at 21: I think that's where you only have three eligible playing seasons (or is it if you come in at 22 you only get three seasons ... )

As it still stands, you would be correct. Thank you for that!

Gonna answer it anyway.   I'm not trying to start anything, I'm just surprised that Barry is going all out to find a third goalie.   Nothing more.

A guy in the pipeline is not all out. Effort's been there already. Coaches are trying to remedy a tough situation and they did that with a kid who has the character to potentially give up a semester/half year of eligibility by coming in right now. Not sure about you guys, but that's a guy I want playing for us any day.

I thought there were rumors that Hakstol wanted to take Dane with him to Philly, but Dane wanted to stay here.  Not sure if they were true, but I recall those circulating around back then.  By all indications I see, Dane and Berry have a great working relationship.

I remember hearing this as well. I also remember not hearing much, if anything, from Dane after the decision had been made to replace Hak with Bubs, nor have I had any doubt in their working dynamic/relationship. It's a solid pair.

    What’s Dane coach exactly?

Not sure what's being asked here but if you're asking for his official role, it's associate head coach.

I believe so...and in college hockey that's usually iron clad. So I guess we'll have to sit back and listen and see.

Then your argument would suggest the same for Bubs, although our campaigns YoY were (and still are) relatively much better than theirs (Maine). I don’t think anybody is going to stand for 4 more seasons of this. Especially with the disappointing results these last three seasons. It’s not North Dakota tradition, and that’s influenced by the culture set forth by our bench bosses. Two words we hear almost too often from BB. We can’t keeping hinging on these “exciting” incoming classes of recruits to make a fundamental shift in how we approach the game. That’s not a knock on their talent at all, sincerely. It’s just that if you can’t make the most of the product you have now, that’s an everybody issue. Too much at stake to let that mentality continue to exist.

  13. Dave, great read as usual. I have a good feeling about this team in the second half and believe that the 19 wins this senior class needs to reach 100 could come, even if it appears to be a stretch. The fact that we have everyone back, along with a potential appearance by JT tomorrow night, is reassuring. We're coming off a big win last week against NTDP, and if we follow up with a much needed sweep this weekend, it could be the spark to a dangerous 2H.

    3-1, 4-2 good guys.
