someone can (and should) check my math, but according to wikipedia 43 D1 schools have switched from native american nicknames. 18 of those went to birds. 12 of those went to some form of hawks.

exactly what i'm thinking. take away nodaks and i'm guessing roughriders wins (or vice versa if it had come to that) but i doubt many nodaks or roughriders people change their votes which clears the way for a hawks victory

for a fanbase that loves talking about being unique, don't over half the teams that switch from a native american name go to something bird themed?

i'd say it's a little early to start going down that road. I'm not the type of guy who thinks every new coach should get to clear the previous guy's recruits out before you can judge him but we are way too early in the regime to start talking about that kind of stuff
