UW beat Merrimack 11-5. Caufield already with 4 goals early in his NCAA career.
I wish this iteration of the Badgers was on our OOC schedule.

Ryder Donovan a healthy scratch for the Badgers.
Watch him switch to juniors around Christmas.

CC really dove head-first into the beer league aesthetics for their jersey.

Remember that series maybe a decade ago where we throttled RMU and they weren't interested in scheduling with us anymore? One of the games was an 8-0 pounding. Let's check another Atlantic team off the list. Never want to see Canisius again.

Hi. Bowling Green interloper here. Long time listener, first time caller. Hopefully I can help focus some of the ongoing speculation. The NCHC wasn't a fit for us when Fenton asked if we were interested in applying for membership (this happened at the time Mankato and ASU applied so you can say BG is to blame for Mankato being stuck in the WCHA) and nothing has changed in the interim. BG isn't looking to join the NCHC for the foreseeable future if ever.
As an Ohioan I wasn't familiar with UST but the more I hear the more intrigued I am.
Now before I hang up and listen to your answer, the juicy rumor floating around northwest Ohio is that Bergeron, who was never enamored with the NCHC, wouldn't mind Miami joining up with the WCHA 7. Personally I find that exceptionally hard to believe, especially since Western is happy where they are -- and you'd expect they'd be a package deal. But there you go.
I enjoy reading this forum. Lots of really smart people and great discussion. I see stuff here that isn't duplicated elsewhere. Carry on.
Here's a good primer on UST:
I never understood why people paid so much to attend there rather than, say, Pepperdine or another private institution, but it sounds like they are generous with financial aid.

A few years ago a prep school kid from Brooklyn would not strike me as a possibility, but after Pinto and Moore it wouldn't be a shock these days.
Is Ty Smilanic expected to go the MJ route? Denver yanked his scholarship a while ago, could have been similar to what happened with Rowe. Figured he'd have a new commitment by now. Haviland has undoubtedly offered considering Ty is from the front range.

Herald website is now paywalled but not particularly sophisticated; you can read all the articles you want if you are using Firefox (and maybe others, only tried with FF) on a desktop.
Put it in Reader view (F9) before the paywall block comes up and you can read any article you want. This trick works on some, but not all news sites. The Athletic, STrib, and more don't allow this work around.

That Duluth game will be his legacy.

Mercyhurst scores two late goals to win in Arizona. Ouch. They don't have replay but I'd like to see the winner again, came off a guy getting out of the box with less than a minute to go.

They need a rink on/near campus. Their home sheet only seats 1k. Not sure what Mac/Ham/etc. do for hockey but a shared rink could work. What is the Wild practice rink's capacity? Could be a placeholder.

Boise St and UNLV are G5 programs, so they are less likely to start hockey because of financial issues. Maybe if they get closer hockey relationships with the PAC12 that pays, as that will be an incentive.
The last programs added were P5 and non-football schools. FCS and G5 are generally too concerned about fb costs. UND is a rare exception. See UC-Irvine much more likely than Boise or UNLV.
Did you just say Penn State and ASU are non-football schools.......?

There has been little reporting and talk of High Point building a rink and starting DI hockey except here and NC.
USCHO and College Hockey News don’t have anything on it.
Here’s another Greensboro article on High Point U’s growth and it’s president.
My original post about it was quoting a tweet from a CHN writer. Do they even have a current club team?

as a GF native, it's a safe bet he doesn't need a scholarship; it's undoubtedly yanked if it was ever offered. He just needs to prove he can hang at D1 and isn't a waste of a roster spot. Play with heart in front of your friends and family at the Ralph, not a bad way to spend a few years!

Scoring is really the only issue the last two years. In that role we had defects like Gropp and Gerlach, and players not pan out, like Wilkie, the Scandinavians, and (so far) Adams. Yon was clearly not going to be a scorer after Juniors, but that's what he was recruited to do.
Hopefully our desperation for scoring doesn't force Pinto to step into a role he's not ready for. Weatherby and Hain can and should make big steps. Mismash needs to be consistent. Our D and goaltending will be solid.

What's funny is he usually starts with an objective observation, and then his train of thought derails once his hatred of Sioux hockey takes over. Meth....not even once.

Another article on High Point University and its growth.
How does a school with an 80 million endowment justify spending 300 million on athletic upgrades? Sounds like a pipe dream.

Never heard of this college before, but by all means, use college hockey as a way to get your name out there!

I’d love for the Wild to sign him in 3 years. Just nothing over 5 years though. Still pissed they didn’t draft him. He was right in their backyard
You and everyone else in the upper Midwest. The short contract feels like a signal to the Wild that he wants to sign there next.

The Vancouver Canucks have signed restricted free-agent forward Brock Boeser to a three-year deal with an average annual value of $5.875 million, the team announced Monday.
Short contract allowing the Wild to pay way too much for him in a few years. Well played Brock!

Miami and UNO with only one each. At least Miami got us as an opponent, WMU vs UNO won't draw random eyeballs or many butts in seats.
Early start for the Miami game suggests they have a PAC-12 basketball game on CBSSN afterwards. Speaking of which, hopefully some ASU games get on PAC-12 Network.

Article in the Gerald (by someone not named Brad) blames it on Ticketmaster. Drop their greedy asse(t)s.

I actually think the Herald was way too slow at instituting the pay wall. Now they have done it too late and for too high a rate rather than slowly ramping it up and attracting better writers with the additional revenue. Here's how I see the conundrum at GFH.
1. They needs better writing(outside of a few exceptions)
2. To get better writing they need to pay more competitively
3. To pay more competitively to attract quality writers they need to increase revenue
3. To justify a pay wall to increase revenue, they need better writers
Another issue with starting to charge so late is subscription fatigue. People are already subscribing to so many services these days; I'm always leery to add another given how under-utilized some of them are in my household.
It's also hard to justify subscribing if you don't live in the area. The only articles not about hockey I read are the WaPo ones they have in syndication, which saved me from having to subscribe to that. Guess which of the two I'll probably subscribe to now.
Also, will there be some free articles monthly, or 100% paywall? Most are like the former, but with the poor decision-making at Forum, the latter wouldn't surprise me.

Both T. Poolman and Wolanin played forward to get them ice when we had stacked defense. Maybe put one of the D up this year.
It's good to have too many players, injuries will happen.
