I guess I'm just naive, but is NIL that big of a deal for him? He's gonna be a gazillionaire in a year or so.
Wouldn't he want just one memorable, entertaining college year in front of the best fans in the best rink, before he hits the 'big time'?
Just wishful thinking I suppose.
More NIL money allows him to buy a bigger insurance policy hedging future earnings against any potential career ending injuries between now and his ELC expiring. Just a thought. Nolan Patrick hopefully had a policy.

Tri City gave up a first round slot in the USHL draft a few years ago to tender him. There was a rumor on here they wouldn't let him "before and after" the HS season so he may not want to play for them.
Vancouver is a top 5 hockey city in the world but also insanely expensive. Might come down to the better billet arrangement.

I'm really interested to see how Verhoeff handles the jump to NCAA as a really young Dman.No Cooper Williams? #chippaz

Will Zellers, LW
One of the top prospects acquired in Boston’s trade-deadline teardown in March, Zellers has elevated his stock since being acquired from the Avalanche in the Charlie Coyle deal. The 2024 third-round pick was a force last season with Green Bay Gamblers — winning USHL Player of the Year honors after compiling 44 goals and 71 points in 52 games. The only players to score more goals than Zellers since the 2001-02 season? Kevin Roy (54), Matt Coronato (48), Macklin Celebrini (46), Thomas Vanek (46), and Rem Pitlick (46). The 5-10 Zellers has a dangerous release, while also possessing the willingness to skate in Grade-A ice to cash in on quality chances. For a Bruins team short on high-end offensive talent, Zellers — who will play at the University of North Dakota in the fall — has the potential to be a 25-goal regular.

Nice blurb about Brady Martin spending draft day on the farm. Get him on campus for a tractor ride down University.

Was he on anybody’s radar?? Other than the penguins, of course.
Our staff to recruit him, as well as the NTDP borrowing him for a weekend. It'd be interesting to know what his role was this year in Muskegon.

Alex Weirmaier is a surprising pick. Bailed on Denver early in the year and was never on the top line in Portland. It's far from certain he has a spot there next year as an overager. I think it's only one per team?

I almost googled if it was a different Carter Sanderson because it was completely off my radar.
Schloss-whiff, the opposite of a Schloss-bomb. Looks like Sanderson just barely made the Sept 15th cutoff.

That's a pleasant surprise.

Owen Martin of Winnipeg drafted in the 3rd round. Currently in Spokanistan, worth looking at for next year.

Spence, Mews, Ivankovic are all blue chippers that they already got to be fair. I am wondering how many draft eligible OHLers will just sign pro shortly after this weekend and forego the NCAA (which would be foolish for most of them IMHO). Michigan is facing stiffer competition now that Michigan State has their s*** together and elevated back into a power since Nightingale took over, and Penn State is going for it now with their NIL budget + Frozen Four run momentum, not to mention the normal competition for elite OHLers that Boston University will always give the maize and blue.
Fair, I meant of the potential commits after the draft. Denver, Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State the the Boston schools are the competition so having one less of them to worry about is encouraging. Minnesota and Wisconsin could (should) be but just doesn't seem to be the case. ND and OSU could come out of nowhere too.

Michigan filled a forward spot with a depth F from from the Q (Justin Larose), that's a sign they aren't getting the expected traction with OHL blue chips.

It would take at least a 2nd/3rd rounder to make the team next year over players already committed. Schloss said yesterday that even he has no idea who they have been targeting. I would guess any WHL guys inside the first two rounds are potential targets.
Considering the majority of the CHL is picked over already outside of draft eligible players, I would assume UND is targeting these top guys in the draft. UND has to be close with a couple of them because I do not see Bryn and staff going into July without any knowledge of who will fill the last two spots.
Agreed on Bryn. Faith in him has been rewarded thus far.

Any of Braeden Cootes, Ben Kindel, Roger McQueen, Carter Bear, Cameron Schmidt, Lynden Lakovic, Blake Fiddler, Nathan Behm, Tommy Lafreniere from the Dub. Not convinced any of the high enders from the O or Q will be going to North Dakota until proven otherwise.
Martin being a farm kid makes him unique compared to the Quebecoise and Golden Horseshoe kids in the Q and O. Otherwise he wouldn't be with mentioning.

Who do we want for next Friday's bat signal? Fingers crossed on my part for Brady Martin. Any 2nd/3rd round CHLers not yet on our radar?

Sounds like exactly what we want.

Who is Zach Mauer?
It's a portmanteau of Zach Parise and Joe Mauer, two big name MN natives who signed massive contracts and were often injured. Credit goes to MN sports fan Negative Dave.
I'm admittedly not in tune with baseball so I don't know if Mauer was a disappointment (he is in the HoF so probably not) but Parise definitely was. The buyout is only now off the books for the Wild.
