  1. "Double whammy" usually means two negatives. I believe BarnWinter meant it as two positives though. The university gets ticket money even when they don't show up and the Big Ten Network gets increased viewership if they stay home and watch the game instead. Which in turn means.... Increased viewership in BTN means bigger payments to Big Ten schools.

Went on the Milton Mud Run this year for the first time. That was a lot of fun. Highly recommended for anyone looking to shred some trails after a long winter. Its for a good cause and the turnout is massive (800+ people). https://www.facebook.com/pages/category/Nonprofit-Organization/Milton-Annual-Mud-RunRide-4-Life-115647758450851/

There are some amazing places to ride in North Dakota that I have been to so far: Pembina Gorge The Badlands Kimball Bottoms Roughrider Trail A word to the wise if you go to riding on the Roughrider trail. I watched this video before I went and I almost still flew into the pond like this guy:

    Do you even wrench bro?
  6. The larger Fargo is and the more options for stuff to do. The higher the quality of life for Grand Forks residents. Especially with the foregone conclusion of the future of cars. For example, what was going on this week in Fargo? Ribfest outside the Fargodome. Soon you'll be able to pour yourself and your wife some red wine. Hop in the car. Set the destination to Fargo. Facetime the kids. Have some appetizers. And arrive at the Dome. Have a few more cocktails there, eat some ribs, and listen to some live music under the sun. Summon the car to pick you up, tap the "home button" and take a nap on the way back.
  7. Good stuff. As a resident an hour north of Fargo, I love to see Fargo grow. Now its just time for a new Fargodome, I've been pushing for.
  8. I would say the "Grand Forks star logo" would probably be the favorite. (Minus the star part)
  9. And in converse, some people don't like them cause they aren't the official logo. Release the "official" and these unofficial logos at the same time on an even playing field and it's probably pretty split among which is the favorite.
  10. I was wondering what was up.

WoO first stop in GF is a week from today, June 7. And again August 16. Like most things, Minots date probably went to Fargo. Would-be surprised to see GF get one less date and Fargo adding a second in the future.

In that article you linked, Kahne is hoping to be cleared by doctors on Monday and continue racing. So there seems to be a chance he races. I did add some wishful thinking on my part. Article written on 2015, River Cities Speedway ranked No. 1 in the country for sprint car racing Not sure if the WoO came twice back then or not. When the WoO first started to come to GF it was so successful they added a second date for it on the tour and has continued that way ever since. Article from last year: Schatz Wins WoO in GF Tickets ain't cheap either at $35 to $40.
  13. Some newer posters seem to be quit slanderous now that Herbst isn't the coach.
  14. That's the nice thing about this hire. He has a track record of getting recruits and results to a small town in the middle of nowhere in Aberdeen SD, similar to Grand Forks. He doesn't appear to be afraid of a challenge. Leaving an established team at the top of it's game. He probably hopes he can build a program at UND and see if there's another jump after that in his future. He's taking a risk. Kudos to Sather.
  15. Looking at the picture, now I know why Bill Chaves hired him. #baldbrothers
  16. Tom Miller reviews the Paul Sather hire as the next head coach for UND Men's Basketball. (9 minute audio)
  17. Nice way to get a rip in of UND Hockey on a new mens basketball hire thread. Well done!
  18. Northern State is to Mens Basketball as UND is to Mens Hockey. NSU lead D2 in mens basketball attendance. Biggest thing in the town of Aberdeen. About 3,700 fans per game. South Dakota is to Basketball as Minnesota is to Hockey.
  19. You still going to stick around the site now that your guy didn't get hired?
  20. To rip on Brian Jones.

Auto racing, like many subcultures, are hard to understand if you're not apart of it. The largest sports venues in the United States aren't football stadiums but race tracks. The Grand Fork Race Track averages between 3,000-6,000 fans per race. It has often been named as one of the top tracks, if not the top track, in the country. In a week, 18 time winner of the Monster Energy Nascar Cup Series, Kasey Kahne, will be racing in Grand Forks, along with a sold out crowd to watch. He races in the World of Outlaws Sprint Car series. They just had a race this Monday in Indiana. The guy who won that race on Monday was Kyle Larson, the guy who won Nascar's All Star race two weeks ago.

By average attendance, dirt track racing is probably the third most popular sport in Grand Forks. Right behind UND football and hockey.
  23. You can tell it's the offseason!
  24. Lots of hockey championships with the Fighting Sioux logo.
