  1. So, under the scenario of Hakstol leaving, who'd replace him?

At this point in time, I'd have to think the front-runners would be Berry, Eades, and ... recently resigned at UNO Steve Johnson. Maybe Bubs (Berry) moves up and Johnson come in as an assistant.

Hearing of Tim O'Keefe's impending retirement I guess I'm not surprised to hear even remote possibilities of Hakstol moving on. And the recent media articles about Hakstol's NHL potential to me are not coincidence. (Toss in Johnson's sudden resignation and my antennae are up.)

  2. I'd love to see the Big Sky work out a "scheduling alliance" with the Pac-12 similar to that between the Big 10 and the MAC.

Let's see, ... LA, Palo Alto, Seattle, Boulder, and Tempe ... or State College, Newark, Bloomington, East Lansing, and West Lafayette.

  3. I'm sure that the Big 12 would also like a massive pot of gold, greater respect from the SEC, and casual Fridays. Wanting something, and actually getting it are two different things. You suggesting that the top 5 conferences would like to split isn't worth patting yourself on the back about, it is something we all know. Telling us this is going to happen in the fall of 2013, and it actually happening would be a little more remarkable.

What, you think this is the kind of thing that just happens because the Big 12 says they'd like it?

Yes, they'd like that whole list; but, they didn't come out and ask for those because they knew they had little to no chance (or had casual Fridays already).

What they have done is start the discussions on something they think they can get. That is noteworthy.

Upon further review, by asking for their own subdivisions they are asking for their own pot of gold. ;)

  4. 2017 gives us time to get the IPF up and running and recruit some better athletes. Who knows, we might be playing FBS by then (not likely, but you never know with all the realignments going on).

The PAC-12 could be part of a new division by then too ... strange days ...

  5. Don't forget some are Pharmacists. You may not know this, but that isn't the same as farmers.

    So it's not

"... with a blue pill here and half ounce there, here a pill, there a pill, ... Old MacDonald had a pharm ... "

(I left off the last part because I'm pretty sure the NDSU folks can't spell "E-I-E-I-O". ;):D )

  6. As I've said on other occassions, the mistate concerns me but what comes after is what I'm interested in.

Clearly Gothberg et al learned nothing. I'm bitterly disappointed in that group.

And clearly these former NDSU footballers don't understand what a sweet deal they had from the court system ... key word being 'had'. Now I suspect a judge will 'offer' them an opportunity for a deeper understanding of what court imposed sentence means.

And somewhere the ND Sec of State and ND AG (the two who had to deal with petition-gate) just shake their heads and say ...

  7. Obligatory posting of quote:

"Um, he's sick. My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Ferris pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious." -- Simone

    Thank you. That is all.

  8. I've heard of some teams going the hotel route for home weekends.

I wouldn't even go "hotel route" for home weekends. Let them sleep in their lockers Friday night (with Brad Berry in a bad mood standing outside the door).

When they start to figure out that they feel better Saturday waking up without a hangover, even after sleeping in their locker in REA, maybe they'll figure out that alcohol is the exact opposite of a performance enhancer and its physical effects are far longer than what you consciously feel.

When they learn that, maybe they'll get to sleep in a real bed on Friday of a home weekend.

Thus endith thy lesson of why thoust should never want to play for a team at that level coached by me.

  9. Regarding GFPD:

Teachers don't 'give' grades, you earn them. Cops don't 'give' citations, you earn them.

    Regarding this latest incident:

Normally I'd shrug this off, but context matters. This team is eight months removed from a situation where some of these same guys had issues. So I'm forced to point out my view at times like these: "The problem concerns me, what you learn from it, how you respond is what I'm interested in." Well, clearly, these guys learned nothing from last fall. Hak is right in taking action.

This incident keeps the questions about alcohol affecting the team's performance (on Saturdays, and in general) well in play. I wonder what a Hakstol team could do if they were actually sober for an entire season, ... heck, for a home weekend*.

*No home sweeps this year ...
