  1. As far as my remarks, yes, "more sensitive," because of history. The UND coach was sensitive of the alleged "Afro" comment because of her race, and because of history. Guess what, I knew I was on the edge. (See the comment. I was the one that first pointed it out.) If you folks think it's that bad, right here, right now, "Dear World, I apologize that statement. I'll watch myself more closely from now on." Can I expect the same of some NDSU fans attending events? Will others (some NDSU fans in this case) accept that they may be on (or beyond) the edge and start to watch themselves? Well, the first data point, MSU-Mankato to now, isn't good. The root cause in each situation is (sadly) unchanged. Again, I wish Mr. Taylor the best in handling it. By the way, GFC is "Grand Forks Central."
  2. JBB said: You must have missed this.
  3. Oh tony, OK, you saw it, and I'll trust you, so it's (a) or (b). Are you media? If not, then (b) is still possible. Yes, reporting, objective reporting of fact, lends to credibility of a story. Both of us have proven to be far from objective. What happened? Who did it? Why didn't NDSU report it, all of it, to the media? WDAY-TV and KFGO-AM reported (Sunday night and Monday morning) that a letter of apology would be coming from the fan in question and NDSU Athletics to the University of North Dakota. As far as wording, ask Mr. Taylor how he'll be wording it. There has yet to be a challenge to the assertion that a male fan touched a female coach after the womens game. Even more ad hominem. The "TVFS" comment was to point out the flaw in the logic. Wouldn't the "hometown" newspaper just love to pile onto the hated rival, yet they miss the opportunity? I didn't ask a question. I stated a generalization that I expect the great majority of people that read it would agree with. For the record, "NDSU grad" referred to it with a "good point" comment. (I'll decline the chance to steal a page and excuse it away with "toughen up" and "show some class and dignity" as has been attempted with other statements.) You're so testy, tony. What's wrong? Either you are frustrated that NDSU has gotten this type of publicity twice in six months or, I'd guess, somebody either stole or maladjusted your new chair. Finally, something we agree on. And if you believe fans in Grand Forks are just as problematic (from your allegations) as those at NDSU (this event, the MSU-Mankato event), then have NDSU point things out in and to the media as UND did. Nothing changes otherwise. According to the Fargo Forum, Mr. Taylor will be looking at seating arrangements at NDSU.
  4. With sincere apologies to ZZ Top for mangling a perfectly good lyric for my own purposes, I propose that UND start "playin' Russian (ice) roulette" and "load all six" as skaters. ??? Kidding. Go with the best looking one in practice this week and skate as a team in front of whomever it is.
  5. I understand the "class and dignity" thing, but if the coaches could stand a little upgrade in the decorum category (regarding verbal abuse), so could the NDSU fans. I only say that because this is twice in six months (UND, MSU-Mankato) for NDSU crowds. (Before folks jump back at me, there are things UND crowds do I wish would change.)
  6. NDSU_grad: Fair ponderings. They could be good questions to pose of the Athletic Director. Another possible? Not to be too un-PC, but women, in general, are more sensitive to verbal abuse as well as unexpected, undesired, and unwarranted physical contact.
  7. Silence by media means (a) it wasn't newsworthy, (b) they didn't know about it, or © it didn't happen. Which is it? I don't know. Reporting, objective reporting of fact, lends to credibility of a story. One hundred thousand dollars is a lot of public money to be "swept under the rug" (no reporting) by anyone. How could that happen? The Forum has solid city and NDSU connections (for either case you bring up). Why wasn't it objectively reported? Is there more to the story than what is put forth here? Like I said earlier, if Roebuck et al were out of line with statements Saturday, NDSU should ask for an apology in return when they apologize to UND for Saturday's events. And at least you're consistent: Back to the ad hominem attack.
  8. Someone (some say UND fans, others say NDSU fans, who knows) allegedly did one hundred thousand dollars of damage to FargoDome and it did not make the news? Fargo media didn't report this alleged pelting of Hager? But Fargo media did report Saturday's incident and the incident with MSU-Mankato. Are you saying "The Vast Fighting Sioux Conspiracy" controls Fargo media? Thanks for my chuckle of the day.
  9. How do we know that guys who were kept on the Gopher team (but didn't pan out and rode out their careers on the end of the depth chart) really got what they were told they were going to get? Again, anyone can claim they kept getting the scholarship, but do we know they did? No, we don't.
  10. If you are doing the job, Coach Blais treats his goalies just fine. If you aren't doing the job, just as any coach would, he'll look for one who is. About Sedevie: The guy is lucky to not be spending the rest of his life in a wheelchair. Any time you do damage to vertebrae in the neck you risk doing spinal cord damage. Him feeling up to going to State hockey and moving around is a great sign. And yes, he's on the shelf for six weeks before they re-evaluate the neck with another MRI and decide where to go from there (according to the Topeka Scarecrows web site).
  11. sprig: Knocking off RPI at RPI was 1984. (Not the book, the year.) RPI came back and won it all in 1985.

Hold it, upon re-reading that, is 'siouxrock' talking like the beloved Jar-Jar Binks of Star Wars. "Me-na al-mo thinkah so!"

I guess your lack of knowledge extends beyond spelling and grammar and communications and into the realm of hockey.
  14. I can't disagree with that. I guess I've always liked to see head coaches who have been head coaches somewhere else, even if it is at another level. I just like to know they can handle any job that is defined as "the buck stops here."
  15. bisonguy: Oh yeah, the concourses would need to be moved out to put endzone seating in. And you would have to guess that they'd put in some restrooms and concessions in an expansion as well. Is it planned any time soon? No. Does the building allow for it? I believe so.
  16. I haven't made those. However, the track record of accusations as objectively reported in the Fargo Forum over the last six months (vs. MSU-Mankato, vs. UND) is less than positive. tony, you need to ignore 'siouxrock' (we do, and the moderator here has let is be known in a hockey thread last week that 'siouxrock' is being watched closely), and spend more time in that new chair.
  17. tony, If these things are happening, maybe they should be objectively reported. Fargo based reporters were at each event, yes? So where are the reports? Until that objective reporting happens, what you are putting out are accusations with no way to corroborate them. $100,000 dollars in damage to FargoDome? Wouldn't that be an insurance claim? Even if Fargo/NDSU didn't want the story out, please don't tell me the insurance company that had to pay the claim wouldn't want that out there (so they could raise rates in both Fargo and GF). I'd really like to see the news report on this damage. Again, I'd like objective facts. (Both of us are good at spinning things in our favor.)
  18. tony, As I've discussed with other NDSU fans here, objective fact is all we want. Sorry, but a student columnist writing his weekly opinion piece, not a news story, who sat in the NDSU student section, is not going to meet that definition. (For example, the columnist may not have heard it, but does that mean it did not happen?) If there is a problem, in his letter of apology to UND that Mr. Taylor will be writing, maybe he should ask for an apology from those UND coaches if the accusations in a student columnist opinion piece do have a root in fact. Again, I'd have an easier time taking the opinions of a student columnist to heart if this incident had not been preceded by the Minnesota State - Mankato incident. Additionally, shouting words is OK, even questionable ones, or so other NDSU fans have put forth. The line is touching. There has been no refutation by an objective source that a fan touched a UND coach (first). Again, I'd like the objective facts.
  19. Dearest 'siouxrock': You've shown flashes of being able to add something positive to a discussion but you choose revert back to 10-year-old (and I think that may be insulting 10-year-olds) status. I know you can do better. I've seen you do it, and this facade isn't working any more. Quite simply, grow up.
  20. Take away a guy's scholarship? What does signing a Letter of Intent really mean? I detect a theme in there. If you tell a student-athlete an LOI is for more than one year it is less than truthful. All I've ever heard Dean Blais say is that scholarships are reviewed annual. (Another way to say annually is one academic year.)
  21. Is there any 'official' report?
  22. There's your recap.
  23. Are some of the non-students sitting on their hands? Yes. I'm trying to fix that in my section. But the student sections are not "without sin" either. I see students on the cell phone, or hittin' on babes, during play. What is that about? Back in my day (uh-oh, here we go ....) we didn't stand for the whole game but we were louder sitting than that current crop that stands is when they stand. I'm yet to hear students ride a visiting goalie. If you're in the corners next year, maybe you can get on them a little better. We used to have so much fun with Minnesota's John Blue.

forecheck: That's far from a given. It's situational. Naumenko? Nick, defenseman at UND; Gregg, goalie at Anchorage. Or better yet, Durno: One's at Tech and "the love of your life" is at Canisius. ;)
  25. Yes, Bohl was a coordinator. This is Bohl's first head coaching position.
