I was writing this posting epiphany and when I finally post it, this thread is here. Funny considering ... If Oshie really is coming in this fall, I'd guess, as they say in horse racing, it's by a shoulder.

If we believe the recent reports (Walski, Alexander, Martens), here's how I see the roster shaping up (names in no particular order). 15 forwards: Prpich, Stafford, Murray, Porter, Fabian, Foyt, Zajac, Spirko, Kaip, Duncan, Watkins, Kozek, Toews, Miller, Martens. 9 defensemen: Greene, Marvin, Smaby, Bina, Radke, Chorney, Jones, Lee, Alexander. 3 goaltenders: Parise, Lamoureux, Walski. With that group of forwards, Lee Marvin won't play as a fourth liner unless the unspeakable happens regarding injuries. Marvin's value is probably best suited next season as a veteran penalty-killing sixth defenseman. Scott Foyt has only skated maybe a half-dozen shifts at defense in his UND career and his most memorable moments have been when he's been playing forward. That explains how/where I list those two. I view Alexander heading to UND as a signal that Robbie Bina is probably going to use 2005-2006 as a year to make sure that neck is completely healed. I, personally, just don't see how any doctor could clear anyone having undergone that surgery into a high-speed contact sport without giving the bones ample time (a year?) to heal. A mistake could mean consequences of the worst nature. I want Robbie Bina to have a full normal life (hockey or no hockey). As far as Oshie, I've believed all along that he, and Vandevelde, and now Marto, are "early departure" insurance. If we see Oshie this fall (my guess he'd be first one in) I'd guess it's because a name in my list of forwards isn't at UND this fall. My guess at who that could be might surprise some folks (and I really have nothing to base it on other than a feeling). Not long ago, when the roster was at 24, I was saying the roster seemed short. Now, with a 15-9-3 for 27 layout (or is it 15-8-3 and Bina sits out a year) it seems shaped to meet the needs of both quality, high-speed practices and gameday competition.

Nike's CEO (Knight?) is an Oregon alumnus. The Ducks are his "franchise" and "models", it's just that these models walk on a turf catwalk.

All of those changes have to cost someone some money. The question is then: - If it's the school, is the research and laboratory equipment being "updated" and "refreshed" as often? - If it's the vendors (Nike, Reebok, etc.), do you the consumer like paying extra for your shoes just so Team X can have a fourth, fifth, or sixth jersey/helmet/pants combination?

Updates? Anyone?

About $30 MM. If they are serious about UAVs they'll need the runway. Grand Forks has needed to get more private-sector oriented. Maybe this will be a kick in the pants in that direction. More available (and less costly) rentals would make it easier to attract student to UND. And I still wonder about the ND ANG having a much larger role at GF AFB. And we wondered what we'd talk about all summer.

With a mission entirely new to both GF AFB and ND ANG no less. PS - Technically it's the ND ANG (currently based in Fargo).

An ANG unit with no planes and no flying mission? Wouldn't you want helicopters closer to the border (because of speed and time)?

A few questions rolling around now: There's nothing official about Walski from UND, but it was reported in Bismarck media. Heisenberg is reporting Ryan Martens (from Quesnel in the BCHL) to UND. And now, just last night, WDAY-TV reported that FM Jets defenseman Todd Alexander is going to UND.

MTS Centre (previously called "True North Centre") definitely is not Winnipeg Arena. The place is in a great location for someone coming into Winnipeg from the south.

I went to Kupchella's February 2002 position statement. That quote isn't in there. My recollection is that that quote came from a letter to football alumni in the fall of 2004 who were pressing for a move to DI-AA (because the NCAA DII committee was looking at putting football scholarships from 36 to 24, which they did not). That's the context of that quote to the best of my recollections.
