  1. Can the soils in the Red River Valley hold a building much taller than 200 feet (unless you spend a fortune going down with footings)? And would you want to be on the top floor on a 30 mph wind day?
  2. The linked article above is a good one. UND recruits in bold in the final box score. Oksendahl is now 37-0 in his HS career (three undefeated ND AA titles and a Badlands Bowl). And I really liked this: ND -- Hellevang 45 field goal.
  3. Why don't they just go back to "Pride on Ice"? Oh. Yeah. Nelson Muns: "Ha Ha."
  4. A while back on USCHO I said someone needs to make a smilie that has a "Sieve!" voice bubble and that does the arm motion. This PCM post makes me think we need a smilie wearing referee's stripes and orange arm bands that raises its right arms and has a voice bubble saying, "You! Slashing! Two minutes! Sit!"
  5. No, what this is really all about (remember, we're in the WJC thread) is finding the best 22 to wear Red, White, and Blue in December and January in Vancouver. You don't put out prospects to win gold medals; you put out the best 22 at the time, wherever you find them.
  6. Of course Mueller got invited. He's playing for the glamorous NTDP. Oshie should be happy to even be thought about coming from lil' ol' Warroad HS.* But as sprig says, what comes next is up in the air for both. As of now they're each gunning for one of 22 jerseys. * Sioux and Warroad fans please don't flame me. I'm being cynical toward Cardinal, a known Gopher collaborator.
  7. I believe how the position is posted is key: "BS required, MS preferred", "MS preferred but not required", "BS required", "MS required". I'm not sure there's a hard and fast requirement for a head coach to have a certain degree.
  8. I'm not anti-hydrogen or hydrogen research. I'm just against storage of an explosion potential in a high-traffic area. And I'm not so sure how wise it is to be developing experimental technologies with materials with explosion potential in a high-traffic area. The proposed bio-research lab got a huge amount of review and public input. Shouldn't this potential hazard also? PS - Worse than hydrogen? Like nuclear?
  9. EERC has received many grants lately, but very few in the area that EERC started in, namely clean coal technology and research. My sources in EERC tell me that the clean coal research part of the operation is actually short on things to work on. And I haven't heard of any new projects in that area for quite a while. Are they planning to close that part of the facility? Could that space be reused or renewed into one of these new areas of research like hydrogen? It seems that clean coal technology is something that EERC has moved away from under Groenewold's leadership. Considering the vast coal resources ND has and the potential benefits of clean coal technologies toward national energy independence, Groenewold must have some reason for that movement. But given the economic value coal provides to ND (the whole economy out in the Beulah and Hazen area, outside of fishing and tourism), shouldn't EERC remain somewhat in touch and true to its origins? And no, the preceding was not brought to you by the ND Lignite Council.
  10. I could be completely wrong and falsely getting some folks' hopes up, but Cilz just signed three ladies to NLIs. She appears to be running the program during this period without a formally named head coach. No head coach will be named until Mr. (Colonel?) Buning takes office in two weeks. Patience. Buning knows soccer and other practices start just a month after he takes office. He knows there are puzzle pieces that have to be put in place quickly, smoothly and efficiently. (There always are whenever anyone starts a new job.) But someone has been taking care of business and controlling what she can control during the interim. That's the hallmark of Sioux Athletics and coaches. And that is a very positive mark in my book for Ms. Cilz.
  11. Question: Do we want a hydrogen research facility (think: Hindenburg): (a) closer to the center of campus, Swanson (residence) Hall, the Columbia Road overpass, and (soon) a parking ramp, or (b) along railroad tracks in an industrial area on Dyke Avenue?
  12. Yes, apartments are going in between MiniMart and Dagwoods along 42nd Street. The campus is land-locked: - Demers and the tracks - I-29, 42nd Street, and the English Coulee - Gateway Drive, the cemetary, and University Park The only direction available to increase the footprint is east, east of EERC. If EERC doesn't open that direction campus will be completely landlocked. And it will be Gerry Groenewold's fault.
  13. Man, that's too much at once. Forget the job thing.
  14. http://www.fightingsioux.com/sports/wsocce...RELEASE_ID=3943 Looks like Cilz is running the operation in the interim.
  15. It's "Chorney, Jones, and Lee". It "flows" better that way, and sounds a little like a (lay down the) law firm, plus, it's alphabetical. "Chorney, Jones, and Lee: For the defense." The story: http://www.usahockey.com/usa_hockey/news/j...val_camp_rost//
  16. What these guys wore last season (wherever they played): Alexander 2 Chorney 4 Marto 4* Jones 6 Toews 9 Watkins 9 Martens 14 Miller 15 Oshie 19* Duncan 22 Lee 22 (2 with USA) Kozek 26 VandeVelde 26* Walski 30 Open Sioux jersey numbers: 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 14, 16, 20, 22, 25, 29, 30, 31, 35. Looks like a connect the dots game to me. PS - Using the relatives or family angle: dad Marc Chorney wore 16, brother Matt Jones wore 3, uncle Ervin Martens wore 21 and 17, and dad Bob Duncan wore 11.
  17. Too lazy to scroll back up to Post #81 of this thread. I hope for Zach Jones' sake he takes any number but 3. If not, no one will ever get his first name right.
  18. Firstly, the proprietor of this site has told all of us repeatedly that people from all over the country and world read this site. What is reported in the local news is just that, local news. Repeating those things here helps the folks who aren't in the local Grand Forks news media market. Next, putting "my sources" statements out there is great: No matter what unexpected development occurs you can claim that you knew it all along and who can prove you wrong because you never spilled what you claimed to know.
  19. Are they waiting until Buning gets into place before making moves?
