That sounds like the rather, shall we politely say, "Filene's Basement" (aka no-holds-barred-free-for-all) approach. Anyone who's ever been to Boston knows to what I refer. UND has game worn jerseys up for bid at most home hockey games. It's the more "Sotheby's" approach.

I kind of expected this "Nash to Cornell" news when I saw that DU added a recruit (not named Nash) yesterday. Yeah, it was a defenseman, but the more important question would be, "Why'd the scholarship money free up?" See above. http://members.aol.com/cheisenber/Recruit07.htm

Citing BRIDGES is one thing, but citing Ward Churchill as a reputable source?

A pox on the Denver Broncos for being the first with that "modern" stripe. A pox on those who have followed.

Spartans. Sioux. What's the diff?

It's a fairly safe bet that UN-Omaha will be added to the MIAA.

UND does not have a mascot. Moniker? Yes. Logo? Yes. Mascot? No. Thanks for coming onto the show. Tell 'em their consolation prizes, Jonny!

Tark the Shark taking the NCAA to task for how it does business. My how times change.

If he'd have lived up to expectations he'd be on the wing with Zajac and Parise.

Spelling his last name with two "s". My guess: Planning a fishing trip on the big lake north of Bismarck. http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php3?pid=56812

Please read full quote. " ... track record of program building." Johnson has built Lincoln into a USHL power. Stafford has been running the girls program at Shattuck (and all of their summer camps). Neither has Division I experience but in my mind I'll trade that for someone who has a history of building a strong program. To your point (namely "top name Divsion 1 coaches that have head coaching experience"), Badger Bob's two-time champion son could apply here and some folks wouldn't want him because he doesn't have UND ties. Get me the best qualified for the job, and, to me right now at least, I think that's a proven record as a program builder as much as a coach.
-
Yes, but to JfR's point, the United Center is filled with NCAA (and Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa) standard "hostile and abusive" Blackhawks logos. There's a (Bulls or) Blackhawks logo on the end of every row of seats. And banners. And so on. How can they use that "environment" if they won't use UND's?
-
No, actually, I more made the point "82" made:
-
If we should only look at UND grads the following should have never been hired, or even been interviewed: Roger Thomas - Augustana Rich Glas - Bemidji State Dave Gunther - Iowa Gene Roebuck - Mayville State and can you believe they hired a Gopher to run the Sioux program Dean Blais - Minnesota And one more for perspective: Rob Bollinger - Dickinson State. I'm most concerned about these arbitrary "five years of ..." or "demonstrated history of ..." hurdles put into job descriptions. If someone only has a "demonstrated history of" whatever for four years that disqualifies them? Hire the most qualified candidate. Based on my knowledge of who has applied (admittedly only from the Herald) I still say Gordie Stafford or Steve Johnson have the best track record of program building. And that's what UND needs right now.
-
The irony there is hilarious. They did. They're bringing in three people to interview to date. None happen to be UND grads so far. Will there be more? I don't know. I'll watch and let it play out. PS - I'm disappointed Gordy Stafford didn't get a look, but I'm not going to be bitter or spiteful about it.

Should I interpret that as a direct threat of proposed or pending physical harm? I sure hope the moderators see that. -
They played tried mainly Johnson or Bobyck with Hrkac and Joyce. They even ran Mal Parks with them for a couple games. To me it is the Hrkac line that's the best ever because you could have put PCM out there with Tony and Bob and still lit people up.

I know Massen and Canady skated together. Marvin skated with those two for a couple games when Fabian was dinged. I probably crossed the wires. I just like the movie connection: Lee Marvin, James Massen (Mason).

Best line in Sioux Hockey history: " ... and many false prophets will follow." -- Hrkac 46-70-116 Best checking line in Sioux Hockey history: 2000 (and it's three freshmen): Kevin Spiewak, Jason Notermann, Ryan Hale, with The Magnificent Sev..., er, Two (and a friend) not far behind: Lee Marvin, James Massen, Brian Canady. I still say Hale's (shoulder) injury in 2001 was the key that prevented a repeat title.

The Legislature is the State. It is the State of North Dakota University System. Remember the "Golden Rule": Those with the gold make the rules. The Legislature has the gold; the Legislature makes the rules. They could very quickly become (are becoming?) fed up with the way the power they gave to the SBHE is being used and decide to take it back. Events like not following their legislation (the law) make that a greater possibility. And that's not good for the system in total.
