So, if this "yes, the word means, but Myles Brand says it means" (non-sensical) logic works .... Why doesn't UND become .... "The Fighting Sioux" --> Woodrow Wilson Keeble, the Fighting Sioux. A tribe? Oh no, no, no. Just this one guy over here, and his family approves. (This approach works for the ND Highway Patrol and the Red Tomahawk based logo on their cars and uniforms.)

The ND Legislature (and many cities) took on "power hour" by adding the "8:00 am" clause a few years back after an NDSU student power-houred himself into an alcohol induced multiday coma (and nearly died) at a north Fargo pub (Bison Turf?).

I don't see football being a huge revenue positive at either UND or NDSU right now. As a matter of fact, it appears, the way OPE has it reported, both are losing money with football. But yes, I want a full Alerus Center because that is better than a 2/3 full Alerus Center.

Uh, Myles, Illinois came from the name of the people who lived there before Europeans: the Illini. You can't tell me Illini came from Illinois in WWII when Illinois came from Illini a couple hundred years before. No, wait, you can tell it to me, but it's still non-sense.

Not ridiculous at all when you consider what "Corella" was responding to, namely (emphasis added): You need to wheel out the numbers to back up that assertion. My numbers say "Total Revenues of all Sports, except football and basketball, combined" (men and women combined) exceed "Total Expenses of all Sports, except football and basketball, combined" (men and women combined). Given that the vast majority of the revenue is mens hockey (11000+ fans per game for 20+ games) and a non-insignificant part of the expenses has to be all of the other teams (swimming and diving, baseball, softball, tennis, soccer, volleyball, golf, track, cross-country) I'd say I have a basis to be skeptical (disbelieve?) your assertion until you prove it.

Back to the basics kids: If "Fighting Sioux" is "hostile and abusive" to American Indians, remove the name and replace it with the name of the greatest enemy of the Sioux. Thus by the protesters' own logic you'll be "hostile and abusive" to that group: a double win -- "protecting" the Sioux; "abusing" their enemy. Go Cavalry. Who's signing up to be the first "William T. Sherman" mascot?

I love some of the things in Wikipedia under mascot: Gee, listed as two separate and distinct entities ... Where's the NCAA regarding a "Saxon" moniker? Oh, yeah, same place as "Irish" and "Vandal".
