I'm sort of serious when I say, the coaches realizing what Schmaltz is and pulling him from the PP and making him 4C might be the most important off-season move that can happen.
So you see a "Peter Armbrust" role in his future.

Perron will progress.
Schmaltz can't have back-to-back stinker years, can he?
Boisvert and Swanson are ready to step in.And Bubs pulled a couple rabbits out of his hat last year about this time.

If Blake is gone, keep scrubbing the portal as there's an unexpected hole in the roster.

The only way it makes sense to me is if CAR threw a rookie-max ELC at him and started his professional clock (one day closer to NHL free agency).
If he stayed he could sign anywhere summer of 2025 (as he'd be four years after draft year, one USHL, three UND). CAR would not be happy losing that draft pick that way.
Nothing here so far: https://www.capfriendly.com/

My portal predictions:
- UND won't be "most added from portal" this year (three, maybe four, but Merrimack is four already!)
- the Rink Live spreadsheet will have 300+ names by May- 'mack and Sacred Heart both at 4.
- 258 and counting on April 4. -

RE: comparing UMass and CC
CC had the far better record against ranked and top PWR teams.
Retort from UMass is "but BC and BU". And CC had quite the record against ... someone ...

Having seen a number of pretty good players the past few days at Scheels Arena ... TJ Hale from West Fargo.
What's going on at Scheels? I might be in that area needing a break later.
EDIT: Found it -- https://nationals.usahockey.com/2024youthtieri15oDid we decide who TJ Hale's parents are (Ryan and Katie or David)?

Question:
First-years normally help load/unload gear onto the bus. Yes, Zach Parise threw gear.
What about new guys via the portal? Or do they come in as "upperclassmen" regarding pitchin' stank bags.
-
Oh my ... (per Schlossman):
QuoteShootout victories can be important for positioning in the league standings, and it's possible they could factor into the Pairwise Rankings in the future as well.
There will be discussions in Florida later this month about giving minimal weight to the shootout in the Pairwise.
Right now, a three-on-three overtime win is considered 67 percent of a regulation win. An overtime loss is 33 percent value. A shootout would be closer to 50-50 if it's given any value at all.

Interesting stat on new goalie TJ:
@Oxbow6 will be happy with that, as I know he loves the shootouts.

What leeway do private schools have that public schools do not?
You can say it 1000 times but folks still don't hear:
An NIL collective is a private organization and in no way directly controlled by an athletic department much less university. For example:
QuoteThe 1883 Collective is a third-party college athletics collective tailored for UND athletes, aiming to provide name, image, and likeness (NIL) opportunities and foster community service initiatives. Although it supports UND student athletes, it maintains no direct affiliation with the University of North Dakota.

The guy going from QU to Miami better be able to handle losing.
Fillion (to Miami) and Tellier of Q were guys I'd figured to get much interest.

What if Persson hears we are getting 2 Belgian Waffle makers in the players lounge and changes his mind and doesn't go pro? Does Cheese get pushed out?
A Swede like Lud scoffs at your proposed Belgian waffle makers. For him it's kringle or bust.

One more thought on goalies and the portal:
Persson has a Covid year left but is going pro.
Was Lud the two-year plan to get us to Heil and the plan changed, thus enter Semptimphelter for a year. -

Exactly. I don't understand why bringing in a portal goalie is a bad thing.
If it was the long-term not-a-solution solution I'd be against it.
But I see a long-term plan forming up (Hedquist and Heil) so a rental to get there, and back to a stable recruiting pattern and rotation, is palatable.I'm guessing in about a year UND will be hard in the market for a starter capable goalie two years younger than Heil.
And a puck-eater to replace Cheese.- 1

I respect KG's coaching skills - but why are we on our 4th portal goalie?
I would point to Adam Scheel leaving after three seasons and Cam Rowe's decommitment putting ripples into the goalie recruiting pipeline as the reasons for having gone to the portal. Covid merely exacerbated it making guys available with one year left.
Now that Hobie is here and appears as advertised, and Heil is a year out, things seem to be stabilizing to a two-year gap between the top two and a puck-eating practice third (any age will do).

Collin Graf (Q, now SJS) got a bigger ELC than Scott Morrow (UMass, now CAR).
Does CAR try to low-ball and Morrow bit?
Very interesting ...
