I wish I had kept the link handy, David Toews was ranked at #21 in the 18 Dec ISS player rankings for next years draft.

As for Hextall, as a player he is exactly the same type of player as his Great Uncle so why wouldn't he also want to come to North Dakota and exterminate a few Gophers.

No doubt, I expect him to be one of those players that will be up for the Gophers game and will cause a lot of the Gopher fans looking over there shoulder.

Joe Gleason is the real deal. Saw him play the last two night against Elk River and Eden Prairie. Blazing speed, excellent puck handling skills and great ice vision. Not that big physically, but his speed will get him out of trouble. A great offensive defenseman that can really turn on the jets - two strides and he's at top speed.

Our Twin Cities recruits are playing in the Schwan Cup, which starts today. This is probably the elite showcase for Minnesota High School hockey. If anyone is in the Twin Cities area, it is a good chance to see our recruits in one tournament. Here is link, you can click on the brackets from there,

A few observations on recruits in the Twin Cities:

Mallard is right on with Gleason....he has great speed and vision. I've seen him play a few times so far this season and he seems even more aggressive with the puck than when I saw him this summer at the Select 17. For those of you who like Chay Genoway you're going to love Joe Gleason.

Danny Mattson....he's on the smallish side but the kid can really go. He's similar to Burnsville's Jake Hendrickson who visited UND this summer but decided to play for Sandy in Duluth. Both are roughly 5' 9" and 170 but absolutely phenomenal playmakers and tenacious on the puck. The only negative from the last time I saw Mattson play is that he was sometimes on cruise control on the back check. But that's nitpicking; he's going to be a tremendous talent and someone (Kristo???) will be the grand beneficiary of "Double TT's" setups. By all accounts he's a great kid from a terrific family.

I've seen Edina play a few times so I wanted to make a comment on Buddish. There seem to be varying degrees of how good he's going to be. One of the more common negatives I've heard is that he is lazy. Don't believe it; the kid plays hard and there is no lack of effort. IMO Buddish will be a beast for whomever lands him.

GLeason had two good plays (1 ended up an assist and the other a goal) vs. Eden Prairie.

Also, Budish didn't look bad against Eden Prairie at all. He had a goal similar to Fabian's goal vs. UMN a few years back. Picked the guy's pocket coming around behind the net turns skates in a scores.

Also, Kristo was one of the recruits here last night. Gleason was also one of the recruits here for the Gophers series.

hope we can lock him up ;);)

Nick Mattson and some possible prospective Canadian recruits will be playing in the U-17 World Hockey Challenge in Ontario this week, with games starting tommorow. For anyone that gets TSN, the gold medal game will be shown on January 4th. You can follow the tournament here,

Mattson had three assists in the USA's 6-2 win over Russia

Over the weekend:

Blood - 2-1-3 4pims

Cichy - 1-1-2 0pims

Gregoire - 1-3-4 0pims

Lamm - 0-0-0-0pims

Hextall 3-0-3 2pims (1st star)

Bruneteau/Fink DNP

eidsness got a tie this weekend and i think lost in double OT, he is now 16-2-3 on the year with a 2.10 GAA, 93.56 SV%

I'm starting to wonder if Eidsness' stats in the AJHL is going to build up a hype that he may not be able to live up to (at least his freshman year).

Grieco came in highly lauded and he got nothing from the fans. He lost two bad games and was then written off. I wonder what it will be like after Eidsness loses a game while in a Sioux uniform...especially if it happens against a team that some posters feel are "patsies."

everybody should have realized that AG was 17 when he came in. eidsness will be almost 2 years older i think and he will be better to start anyway.
