UND92,96
Congratulations to Jerome Beasley on this honor. Beasley named player of the year Jerome was the only NCC player named to the Daktronics team. I thought TenBroek may also get selected. I would have to think he was also one of the best 15 players in division II.

teamsioux
Yeah, that is unbelievable that Ten Broek wasn't on that list, but it does depend alot on how the SID promotes a player also. I am not saying NDSU didn't do a good job, I have no idea, but that is a huge part of it.

The Sicatoka
The National Association of Basketball Coaches named Beasley a first-team All-American.
The Sicatoka
"The Beas" has been named the DII Bulletin Player of the Year. He'd better sign a pro contract for big bucks. He'll need the money to build a place big enough to hold all of these awards.

Siouxrock
how come bison players are never given any awards like this? huh?
teamsioux
Moron, in other words Siouxrock, this the first time a Sioux or ANY NCC player has won this award, know the facts before you spew out you dribble. It is not like the Sioux have had a monopoly on these awards either!

UND92,96
Does anyone know the exact dates of the Portsmouth camp Beasley is attending? I think it is within the next 10 days or so? April 9-12. Here's a link: Portsmouth
teamsioux
Some awful big names in the camp. It will be very interesting to see how handles the jump up in competition.
BisonMav
With all the awards Beasley has won, his high scoring average etc. How would UND fans rank him with the all time Sioux basketball players. Is he at the same level as Phil Jackson, higher or lower or about the same. Who had the most impact on UND basketball at the time they played? UND Fan
While it is difficult to compare players from different eras, there is no question that Jerome is much more athletic than Phil ever was. However, Phil had much more of an impact on the program than did Jerome. Primarily because he was a ND kid who fans had followed through high school and the recruiting process. Plus, his UND teams experienced much more success than have the teams of the last two years: finishing high in the NCAA tourney and beating some DI teams. UND92,96
I wasn't born yet when Jackson played, but based on what my dad has told me, those were some really outstanding teams. Back to back semi-final appearances (college division) and a third-place finish in 64-65. Phil had quite a supporting cast, as those teams had four all-NCC players for two years in a row. Jackson was actually only the third-leading scorer on the 64-65 team as a sophomore. UND even beat DePaul in one of those years. Beasley is unquestionably the most talented basketball player ever at UND, particularly offensively. It is unfortunate that due to circumstances beyond his control, i.e. Lollar's disinterest in attending classes and Allen's ineligibility, he didn't have the supporting cast which would have enabled UND to potentially do something in the tournament this year comparable to what the Jackson teams did. UND92,96
According to Sunday's Herald, Jerome Beasley was named MVP of the Portsmouth Invitational! Also, according to this ESPN article, Jerome definitely made a name for himself at the tournament (scroll down a little ways): Beasley article Way to go, Jerome! BisonMav
Beasley's position in the draft will depend on how many underclassmen declare. I could see the Lakers picking him. Some of their role players are getting old. Rick Rickert is pretty far down on the list of underclassmen. If all of them declare and the draft goes in order, Rickert could end up with the Timberwolves.
