Ranger Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 The US Pond Hockey Championships are being held this weekend on Lake Calhoun in Minneapolis. I noticed one of the teams has a few former Sioux players. Other teams appear to be loaded with former Gophers and/or ex-Pros. The Federal League All-Stars -Tom Bennett (captain) -Pete Armbrust -John Blooston -Matt Henderson -Jeff Sorem -Kevin Spiewak http://www.uspondhockey.com/page/home.jsp Quote

jk Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 Hope it doesn't turn into the US Pond Water Polo Tourney. I can't imagine a solid month in the 30s has done much for the ice. Quote
brianvf Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 That tourney would rock to watch. Some of those teams are in for a rude awakening going against some ex-collegiate players/pro players. Jeff Yureko is playing! He's on the Bullets. Wasn't he supposed to come to UND to play? The team with Armbrust, Henderson, and Spiewak will probably do pretty well. A combo of Spiewak's speed on the pond plus Henderson's NCAA FF MVP experience will make them a formidable team. Quote

They schedule a major outdoor event, and Minnesota's traditional winter takes a vacation. However, I'm sure it will be back by April. Quote

Siouxdonyms Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 Do they clean the ice in true pond hockey fashion...using shovels? Quote
brianvf Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 He played 29 games for UND from '99-'01. Ahh. I thought I remembered him on my NHL PC mod for NCAA hockey playing on the Sioux team. Forgot if he actually played for us or not though. Quote

Pretty talented and not too old yet. Anybody know who Dan Brooks is? How ironic that a team of mostly former Goofs is sponsered by a Royal Bank of CANADA subsidary. Also interesteding that they didn't go with one of their former sieves. Of course we know who Dan Brooks is and when they lose they can blame it all on the former Pie. Quote
