jimdahl Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 Leading US universities to collaborate with Indian universities As many as 15 leading Universities in the United States, including Harvard, Yale and Princeton will join Amrita University, the Indian Space Research Organisation and the Department of Science and Technology in a project to enhance higher education and research in India. The 15 US universities signing the MoU are Harvard University, Princeton University, University of Texas at Austin, University of Washington, University of Wisconsin, Madison, Yale University, University of California at Santa Cruz, University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Georgia Institute of Technology, University of Illinois at Urbana, Champaign, University of Maryland, University of Michigan, University of North Dakota, Purdue University and University of California at Los Angeles. University of North Dakota joins research project in IndiaOfficials said the agreement allows UND faculty to teach a semester at India's Amrita University, with images and video transmitted to satellite sites around that country. "We do know that the agreement will create additional student populations both on campus and through distance education," Weisenstein said. P. Venkat Rangan, a vice chancellor of Amrita University, said UND was included in the consortium because of its space-related education, which will be a major part of the initiative. "UND's leadership in various fields, particularly aerospace education, is well known, and we are excited to have them as a partner," Rangan said. Quote
