siouxrunner
For anyone who'll be in Grand Forks this weekend, and wants to see the Fighting Sioux Hockey team in action early... 2nd Annual UND Men's Hockey - 'They Can Skate' Race! Think you know the UND MEN'S HOCKEY TEAM? The UND Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) has organized a fundraiser to benefit the MAKE-A-WISH FOUNDATION to test you. On Saturday September 17th the Fighting Sioux Men's Hockey Team is running a 10K race against each other at University Park. We're opening it up to the public to guess which player will finish in what time. It is $5 minimum per bet/donation, with all proceeds going to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Anyone who makes a bet will receive a free donut and coffee or hot chocolate. NOTE: You must be present at the race to be eligible to win! The betting opens at 8:30am at the starting line and closes at 9:00am. Race starts at 9:00am at the SW corner of the park (University Ave. & N. 25th Street). Five closest bets will win autographed paraphernalia by the 2005-2006 Fighting Sioux Hockey Team. If you wish to make a donation to the Make-A-Wish Foundation but cannot attend the race, please send checks made out to the UND SAAC, to: Jason Holt - SAAC, PO Box 9013, Grand Forks, ND 58202. For Questions - Contact Jason Holt at 701-777-2351 or Meghan Mutrie at 218-779-2261. UND Student-Athletes are not eligible to bet due to NCAA rules. This is a wonderful chance to start your day before the Potato Bowl Parade and see your hockey team on a new level. For a great cause

CVCL
Now just to make sure, there isn't anyone on the team named "Reed" running this race right? Just for those that think I'm insensitive on this, it's meant as a joke.

Just for those that think I'm insensitive on this, it's meant as a joke. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I thought the same thing when I first read the thread. I certainly hope that the mistakes made/lessons learned from that tragic event have been considered in the planning of this one. Wasn't Hak on the team back then? Or did he miss it by a year or so? siouxperstar
Stafford may have been one of the last in the 10k (does being a long distance runner really have anything to do with playing decent hockey??), but he came in third overall in the "Ironman" competition--Porter was 1st & Lamoureaux 2nd.
