jimdahl Posted August 5, 2005 Posted August 5, 2005 Here's what the NCAA says: Eighteen colleges and universities continue to use Native American imagery or references and are subject to the new policy: Alcorn State University (Braves) Central Michigan University (Chippewas) Catawba College (Indians) Florida State University (Seminoles) Midwestern State University (Indians) University of Utah (Utes) Indiana University-Pennsylvania (Indians) Carthage College (Redmen) Bradley University (Braves) Arkansas State University (Indians) Chowan College (Braves) University of Illinois-Champaign (Illini) University of Louisiana-Monroe (Indians) McMurry University (Indians) Mississippi College (Choctaws) Newberry College (Indians) University of North Dakota (Fighting Sioux) Southeastern Oklahoma State University (Savages)As I feared in the other thread, encouragement for other schools to refuse to play teams with Native American names: The committee also strongly suggested that institutions follow the best practices of institutions that do not support the use of Native American mascots or imagery. Smoggy Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 I can't see the beer rule holding. Schools will lose too much money from concessions and eventually people choosing not to attend. Quote
GCWaters Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 I can't see the beer rule holding. Schools will lose too much money from concessions and eventually people choosing not to attend. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> But how many schools actually have beer sales? I'm pretty sure that UND and Wisconsin are in the minority... Quote
MinnesotaNorthStar Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 But wait, it's not just about Indian images, they also want your beer: <{POST_SNAPBACK}> This is an absolute travesty.... Quote
GCWaters Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 It normally depends on the stadium. Is it on campus or off? Though, I do think the PAC-10 has gone dry. Or maybe it was just USC. I know I got beer at the Colosium last year, but I was told they aren't serving this year. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Pretty sure the SEC and the ACC are dry...anyone know about the Big 10? Quote
Diggler Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 While I don't buy alcohol at games, I certainly don't think they should ban it. Let the schools decide. Why is it that it's becoming Person A wants to be telling Person B what he can and can't do it in everything? Let people/places decide what they want to do with their own lifes and leave them alone. Runninwiththedogs Posted August 8, 2005 Posted August 8, 2005 No beer at Fighting Illini games... and it is the Fighting Illini. The NCAA needs to learn that. God, I can't imagine what the games would be like if there WAS beer sold. However, I've cleaned Memorial Stadium after games, and there's definitely plenty of booze at the games, anyway. Quote
mksioux Posted August 8, 2005 Posted August 8, 2005 Wisconsin hockey games have been dry since they moved on campus to the Kohl Center. Quote
