SWSiouxMN Posted January 29, 2020 Posted January 29, 2020 UND did what was expected of them last week. They had two home games against two teams that they should beat and got those two wins to get back to a .500 conference record. Now UND looks to go for 3 in a row, a winning record, and another potential sweep of a conference opponent as they travel to Fort Wayne to take on the Dons for potentially the final time in Summit League play. Since we Last Left the Dons: Not much has gone right for the Dons in their last season in the Summit. They find themselves in the bottom 3rd of the conference and also have approached an important stretch in their season. A three game homestand against UND, NDSU, and WIU. 3 wins would put them back to .500 and in the hunt for another top 4 finish in the league. Getting swept? Well, they would find themselves potentially in a fight just to make it to Sioux Falls, given they have yet to play DU, and that wont be until February. They certainly have the firepower to turn it around, especially at the guard spot, but they are going to have to start playing like a desperate team. In the First Matchup: UND used a career high 29 points from Marlon Stewart and a dominate stretch from the free throw line to do something they haven't been able to do: Start the conference 1-0. Stewart was 1 of 5 UND players that scored in double figures that day. Dylan Carl led the way for Fort Wayne with 19 points Key Player: Jarred Godfrey (Sophomore Guard) Taking Stock of the Summit: Standings: SDSU 6-2 NDSU 5-2 Omaha 5-2 USD 5-3 ORU 4-3 UND 4-4 Fort Wayne 2-5 WIU 2-6 DU 1-7 Other Games: Wednesday: SDSU (6-2) @ ORU (4-3) Thursday: NDSU (5-2) @ WIU (2-6) USD (5-3) @ DU (1-7) Keys: 1) Get to the Free Throw Line 2) Slow down the Godfrey/Patrick Duo 3) Fast start and fast finish The Call: As stated, this is a big game for Fort Wayne. It is also a big game for UND as well. This is a chance for two things: A sweep over the Dons and another tiebreaker and to have at least a 3 game separation over the bottom 3 teams (given a WIU loss to NDSU happens as well). UND will have to slow down the duo of Godfrey and Patrick and continue to get solid performances from the likes of Stewart, Rebraca, DAE, and Walter. The Dons will play better at home, but UND also knows how to win in Fort Wayne (beating a much better Dons team there last year). They know the significance of this game, and UND will play well enough because there is one thing that can carry over no matter where they play: free throws, and that's how UND can win. UND 79-73 No TV for this one, however you can watch a free live feed on YouTube. https://gomastodons.com/sports/mens-basketball/schedule Just hit the Watch and should directly go there. 1 Quote
