SWSiouxMN Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 UND looks for the weekend sweep after a up and down (being nice about it) performance against NAU. They host the T-Birds from SUU, who despite their poor start in the non-conference, has jumped out to a surprising 2-0 start in conference play. For a team picked to be near the bottom of the conference and a new coach, it will be interesting to see if they can keep this up and move up the ranks a bit. SUU is coming off a buzzer beater against UNC on Thursday Night 78-76 UND is 6-3 all time in Big Sky play against SUU, including a 2-1 record in Grand Forks. SUU has a couple of decent guards to watch out for. Texas Tech transfer Randy Onwuasor has enjoy the start of Big Sky play with a 37 and 32 point performances in his first two games. The other guard, James McGee, has also shown the ability to drop 30 on a team. Guard play is going to have to be very strong for UND on both ends as they will have their hands full with these two. Hooker/Crandall/Baldwin/Seales/Brown are all going to have to step up defensively to prevent either of these guys from going off (or make them shoot 30 times to get their points). UND needs to start figuring it out and playing at a more consistent and high level going forward, they are about to enter a tough 4 game stretch after this with 2 showdown games against Montana and Weber. There is no time like the present to get some positive momentum going. I hope the last 4 minutes were the sign that Hooker has his jumper back. We need Drick and Geno to play like they are capable of and not what they have been doing the last couple of games. Other games: Mont (2-1) @ EWU (2-0) *Is EWU legit? A win over the Griz at home would put them in a good spot early on. MSU (1-2) @ Idaho (0-2) *Idaho lost a key guard for the year and it shows, they are not the same team. MSU is dangerous with Tyler Hall, can they get the big win in Moscow? NAU (0-2) @ UNC (2-1) *UNC only playing for pride and a Big Sky regular season title, can the young Jacks figure it out and get the first win? Weber (2-0) @ ISU (0-2) *Rivalry game and you can throw the records out the window, ISU is dangerous with Telfair but can anyone else step up? Disappointing start for the Bengals Weber looking like the pre-season favorite. PSU (1-1) @ SAC (0-2) *Another Rivalry game, PSU looks to perhaps race off to a good start with SUU/NAU coming up. Sac looking to get off the donut. Game Prediction: Until proven otherwise this will be a close and frustrating game. However UND is at home and I will hold a little optimism that it will go better that NAU and still end in the same result. I think Hooker continues to fine tune his jumper and scores around 25 UND 76-68 1 Quote
