I'm sorry, but UND never has been, and never will be Harvard, Cornell, etc... Rumor has it...(I say rumor because I read it on the USCHO boards)...that Zach more or less called Chuck out, saying that it was his fault the students were so quiet, and it affected the team. I agree MN, we can support the team without swearing, and i agree it wont happen overnight. BUT, when the fans and students are being removed from the arena for supporting there team, that is just insane, come on most of us including the little tykes have heard a lot worse and more often then from what is said at a hockey game. On Friday night, I sat in the student section and one of the Ralph security guys tried to kick out some guy for saying "butt" I think that is just ridiculous. The kid got to stay, but he did take his NAID from his ID so they may deactivate his card, but you never know. I have only sat in the student section twice this year. I sat up there for the Denver game on Friday and it was great, but on Friday against CC, it just sucked. The security guy was up and down the stairs yelling at people for doing anything, nobody wanted to do anything in fear that they would get kicked out. The most entertaining part of the whole series was watching a green paper airplane make it from the nosebleed section down onto the ice. All I can say is that I hope things get resolved and that things will be better for the Tech series and the 1st round WCHA playoffs. I will be really disappointed if the last few home games of the season suck as bad as this weekends games. I wonder if sending a message to the REA or AD will help to get more things on the boards to get the crowd involved. I think it would be awesome to have the whole crowd doing the sieve cheer after a goal. I have tried to get out section to do it, but it just doesn't work. From day one of the new rink when the students lost two lower bowl sections (there goes your being in people's way problem), that the students needed to walk out. The more I thought about it, the less appealing it seemed, since REA/UND would love this because they could sell more seats. Something needs to be done. Maybe a half period walkout or a section at a time. You could always say that you are just being like the socializing fans in the rest of the lower bowl (this does not include all fans). Letters to the Herald (we all know the Herald loves controversey). Chants saying "we can't cheer." The biggest key just may be the hockey players/Dean Blais. MinnesotaNorthStar Posted February 16, 2004 Share Posted February 16, 2004 I remember the first CC series at The Ralph...there was an announcement made during the Friday night game (apparently...I was too busy making some noise and cheering) for the students to sit down, which we did not. Before the game Saturday we were told to stay seated. During warm ups, Blais comes out of the runway in the Sioux penalty box and says soemthing like "keep standing"...which got a roar from the student section...and we stood that game too. This prompted those meetings. CB and the players are obviously on our side. They recognize the value of a highly energized student section. Personally, I really enjoy being able to go to the Ralph in my sweater and chatting it up with some old chaps I know. I mean really, its not like there's anything else going on, might as well just pay a bunch of money to go and hang out with friends and chat. This one time, I looked down and there were these guys skating around, but I didn't really pay much attention, I was too busy admiring my friends manicure and facial she got. She looks so much better since getting liposuction. Also, every now and then they play this god awful music and one or two people start clapping. I don't really know what that is, but they should stop, it disturbs me when I'm trying to plan when my old chaps and I are going for a round of golf.
