GeauxSioux
Audit: NDSU, UND inappropriately spent student fees Hopefully this is something that gets fixed.... ..UND’s graduate school applicants indirectly bought five iPads for university employees — but they didn’t know it at the time. The state auditor’s office released a report Tuesday that found both universities had “inappropriately” spent some of the millions of dollars they take in each year through student fees. UND also was called out for this issue, with its College of Business and Public Administration collecting nearly $290,000 in surplus fees by last summer — a big leap from the $9,000 cash balance in the fall of 2008 shortly after the fee was increased from $100 to $150 each semester. Bison Dan
And the academic eggheads wonder why people are upset about the spiraling costs of higher education and the accompanying student loan debt ... People love to spend other peoples money that's a fact. But as a whole if that's all they found what's the percentage of questionable spending to total funds collected? That would be the best measure.

I think the underlying issue is always transparency of the use of funds. If fees are collected for certain majors, etc. that's okay, but those same funds should not be shuffled around to pay for plane tickets, parties, new chairs in the dean's office, etc. that have no bearing on the courses taught. This is especially true at public institutions.
watchmaker49
I would like to see an audit of the Aerospace Dept. and the Aerospace Foundation's books going back for years.
Let'sGoHawks!
This bothers me, but still our faculty are towards the very bottom of the pay scale compared to their peers across the USA. Looks like a few of the top dogs are getting all of the benefits of this.
