I'm not arrogant enough to demand control over the agenda of a newly seated sovereign tribal government.

The ND SBoHE knows the deadlines; I'm sure the tribal government knows them too.

And the deadlines I refer to are the ones from the NCAA agreement.

As long as the lines of communication (Goetz to Murphy and back) are open, let the tribe sort this out, in their way, on their terms (understanding that some dates are non-negotiable per the NCAA).

The Spirit Lake vote is nearly bullet-proof because that was done by them, on their terms, in their way.

Anything less, you give the protesters more ammunition that this was forced upon the tribe.

SL did it before the original SBoHE deadline.

SR isn't even going to respect the SBoHE deadline extention, and I suspect won't get anything done by the end of the 2nd extension. That means they aren't ever going to get anything done and you pull the plug.

I'm all for letting them do it in their own way and their own terms, but lets say the State Board allows and allows and allows more deadlines more extensions-- and all of a sudden woh, wait a second, now we are on top of the NCAA deadline, and nothing has really been accompolished, would you be asking the tribe for more urgency then?

Absolutely, but now we're not even a month into the new tribal council at Standing Rock, Murphy wasn't the only change, there were at least 5 other seats that

changed, so essentially a new council.

Spirit Lake doesn't have nearly the organized opposition that is present at Standing Rock. On Spirit Lake the main antagonist is Erich Longie and his few followers. At

Standing Rock there were Ron His Horse Is Thunder, Jesse Taken Alive and to some degree Mr. Gipp at the United Tribes college, those three individuals monopolized the

conversation regarding the nickname/logo, and made any Indian supporters of the nickname/logo out to be something less than intelligent. Any pro nickname Indians were simply to ignorant to know. Finally, the elders and true traditionalists, and the veterans stepped forward, and said enough, we don't see it that way, and are for the nickname/logo. I'm confident that the Standing Rock tribe will get a vote set up and will support the Fighting Sioux, remember, Bob Eaglestaff, the true Fighting Sioux warrior enshrined in the Sioux Hall of Fame.

Anyone that has been in Indian country within the last several weeks, will readily recognize that however important the nickname and logo is to the white world, it is not and never has been the all great and important issue at Standing Rock or Spirit Lake. Anyone that continues to insist that it's the most important thing to the people of

Standing Rock at the present time has obviously never visited that reservation or Spirit Lake for that matter. And no, the casino visit doesn't count! The vote will happen in due time, just relax..

Right on the money Knickball. The vote will happen, that is one of the main reasons Ron his Days Are Over lost his bid for re-election. Murphy and the tribal council need to play their cards right to make sure their process is bullet proof from skepticism of those that were against a vote. Just think how well the nickname chances are now compared to when the SBoHE put the BS deadline in place. SR members will get their voices heard and we will get to retain the name. We just needed to be a little patient.

Per WDAZ- A letter is being sent to the board from the SR they don't know whats in it but one member said they are asking for an extention but another member said the tribal council is open for negotations about the name and not for an extension....this second part is questioning me. The word negotiation. New council not against the name anymore??? This gets stranger and stranger. Stay tuned folks this is just like a soap opera.

The Sicatoka is right. We have no right to expect the SR tribal council to act on issues important to the university in the timetable of the University and the nickname supporters. This isn't really their fight. It's the fight of the nickname supporters. Whatever support we get from the tribes, and hopefully the tribal councils is good fortune. Let's hope for the best but have low attachment to their actions because this isn't their biggest problem.

Which is the new strategy of the anti-nicknamers.

They look good if they keep pushing other issues and pushing aside the nickname issue. The pro-nicknamers look bad because they want a resolution to an issue that could be as open and shut as a basic election.

Thus, the anti-nicknamers are no longer technically fighting the name politically. They still are public relations wise, sure, but now they're just employing stall tactics until finally we run out of extensions and that's it.

Heck, it could get RHHiT and his cronies back into power in future elections if he does do this successfully.
