The West has a goofy structure where if you win 2 out of 3 games in any order, you go to state.
HockeyHigh
The RR/North game ended at 8-2, not 3-0. Also, the EDC and WDA have the exact same structure. If you win 2/3 you go to state. If you lose two you're out. EDC Day Two Friday, February 20th: Game 5: Noon - [#8] Shanley vs. [#5] West Fargo (Loser-out Game) Game 6: 30 minutes after the completion of Game 5 - [#7] Devils Lake vs. [#6] Fargo North (Loser-out Game) Game 7: 6:00 pm - [#1] Fargo South vs. [#4] Grafton-PR Game 8: 30 minutes after the completion of Game 7 - [#2] Central vs. [#3] Red River WDA Day Two Friday, February 20th: Game 5 11:00 a.m. [#8] Dickinson vs. [#5] Mandan (Loser-out Game) Game 6 1:30 p.m. [#7] Bottineau vs. [#6] Hazen/Beulah (Loser-out Game) Game 7 5:00 p.m. [#1] Bismarck High vs. [#4] Bismarck Century Game 8 7:30 p.m. [#2] Williston vs. [#3] Minot
redwing77
Sorry for a super stupid question but... Is Dean Wilson still coaching Fargo South? I heard he's now an assistant principal.... who is coaching the Bruins if he's not?
HockeyHigh
Not a stupid question at all. Dean Wilson resigned after taking a job as an assistant principle at Carl Ben Eielson. He seemed to leave the Bruins with one of the most talented squads they've had in a while. The coaching jobs are now filled by Benson (Head) and Davidson (Assistant). I'd look forward to seeing Benson being named Coach of the Year for EDC or State for sure, simply due to the team he has. Here's another updated on the EDC/WDA tournaments. So far all the top seeds have dominated in EDC, and I don't know what's been happening in the WDA, lots of lower seeds beating higher ones. EDC Friday, February 20th: [#8] Shanley - 2 vs. [#5] West Fargo - 8 (Loser-out Game) [#7] Devils Lake - 1 vs. [#6] Fargo North - 2 (Loser-out Game) [#1] Fargo South - 7 vs. [#4] Grafton-PR - 2 (Winner gains State berth) [#2] Central - 6 vs. [#3] Red River - 0 (Winner gains State berth) Saturday, February 21st: Game 9: 2:30 pm - [#4] Grafton-PR vs. [#6] Fargo North (Winner gains State berth) Game 10: 5:00 pm - [#3] Red River vs. [#5] West Fargo (Winner gains State berth) Game 11: 7:30 pm - [#1] Fargo South vs [#2] Central (Both teams advance to State) WDA Friday, February 20th: [#8] Dickinson - 3 vs. [#5] Mandan - 2 (Loser-out Game) [#7] Bottineau - 4 vs. [#6] Hazen/Beulah - 3 (Loser-out Game) [#1] Bismarck High - 8 vs. [#4] Bismarck Century - 1 (Bismarck gains State berth) [#2] Williston - 3 vs. [#3] Minot - 9 (Minot gains State berth) Saturday, February 21st: Game 9 12:30 p.m. [#4] Bismarck Century vs. [#7] Bottineau (Winner gains State berth) Game 10 3:00 p.m. [#2] Williston vs. [#8] Dickinson (Winner gains State berth) Game 11 5:30 p.m. [#1] Bismarck vs [#3] Minot (Both teams advance to State)
roper1313
No details, but from EDC South beat Central 4-1 to lock up the #1 seed from the east, while both RR and GPR advanced in surprisingly close games. RR beat North by one (can't remember the score) and GPR beat West Fargo in double overtime. Was anyone at the games and can give us a summary. Sounded very exciting. I think Bismarck beat Minot out west for the #1 while Williston is the #3 and Bismarck Century #4. Thursday's matchups are Bismarck vs. GPR(?) Central vs. Williston South vs. Bismarck Century Red River vs. Minot(?) I might have RR and GPR flip flopped.

SportsDoc
The West has a goofy structure where if you win 2 out of 3 games in any order, you go to state. ... and so does the East ... This just in, we have put a man on the moon. Story at 10.
roper1313
Thanks Dave. Safe travels to anyone heading up to GF today. Sounds like travel is not advised west of Fargo and just looking out of my office in south Fargo it looks to be nasty. I was thinking of taking my two boys up to watch the night games, but if this continues I don't think I will. I'm interested to see the Bismarck-GPR matchup. Bismarck has to be the favorite, but GPR always seems to turn it on come state.
