Jones however will not get an extension unless he gets top 6 in Big Sky. 90% of the time when a team loses 5 of top 6 scores they take a nose dive .... and UND AD is sane enough to know that. Nuts to think UND losing 5 of top 6 and predicted to finish 9th by every Objective preseason mag should finish top 4. Fact is UND has lost one game that Vegas (where money talks )had them favored . The also have one upset vs the money winning at Drake. Facts!

Jones will coach UND next season...0% chance he gets canned... that is the way it is. Complain til the cows come in this season!, however Jones will return.

...........WELL my good man....15 degrees warmer weather in winter. Higher paid coaches to obtain and retain staff... Decades of D1 Basketball history vs years.. A more valid argument is Why has UND has been better RPI average the last 3 years than EW. ,Montana st, Idaho st.,No Az. No Colo. Port. St,Sac St,and So Utah, It cant be the weather, the facilities, the in state talent, or Big Money Stud Coaches.... What is the reason why? perhaps the Coach!!

In the absence of any inherent advantage or disadvantage relative to other Big Sky Men Hoop Programs than a reasonable expectation would be a mid level Big Sky program. Summit league basketball is a modest step up from Big Sky per Conference RPI rankings. Try comparing NDSU football with UND? Jones is doing Great compared to football. NDSU Basketball is in rebuilding mode also. Fargo/Morehead is a shorter drive for Midwest recruit Player families and also more of a bigger city feel.

Actually considering the pay, the facilities, the weather, and quantity of in state D1 talent and number of years as a D1 BB team.... UND by any objective measure should be compared to the bottom half of Big Sky... Despite that, North Dakota has appeared in the post season four straight times. Clearly nice work. One of the best in the Big Sky! . Of course UND like fans from every other team wish their school would be among the best , this of course emotional not logic based reasoning . Now that the program is rebuilding after 4 consecutive post season appearances ...the wolves are in a feeding frenzy. Low D1 programs are happy to play in these post season tourneys. Sure power conference teams may frown on the CIT. but this Big Sky Hoops...Grand Forks ND.

Jones is not on the hot seat. He has had a high Big Sky RPI for the last 3 years. They would have to pay a lot more for a proven D1 HC who may turn out to not be any better. Road games home games do not matter wins and losses do. RPI is an objective measure of overall success. If there is a compelling reason such as great location , great in state talent pool, top dollar salary to coaches and state of the art facilities then perhaps a case could be made why UND basketball should be at the top of the Big Sky rather than in the top half.

UND top half of conference RPI last 4 years..which is good!... What Big Sky Teams should UND be better than year in and out. There are 11 other Big Sky teams ..go through each of the other 11 teams and objectively explain the pros and cons of each program and explain why UND should be better than all or most of the other teams on a year in year out basis.

Jones said he has to play a ton of road games to fund team trip to Italy next summer....shoestring budget program

Hire Brewster for the men before another High Major mens program steals him away. There is a reason why winning Women's coaches do not end up at much higher paying HC gigs in the NBA or NCAA mens ...totally different beast

Geno looked good at the De La Salle vs Alumni game yesterday....held his own vs Gopher recruit Jarvis Johnson. Looks like he is the only red shirt for UND this season.

Richman only makes 70% more than Jones.... Not too bad for a rookie . I think UND newcomers for 2014 and 2015 are better than NDSU. Jones also has to deal with his assistants moving to better paying jobs at a high frequency... UND AD. pretty much knows that you get what your willing to pay for. And Jones is a bargain!

4 straight CIF appearances from the lowest paid D1 coach in country is pretty good. UND would have to break open the piggy bank big time, to bring in a proven higher quality D1 coach. Even NDSU first year HC who has done nothing ...makes 3-to 4 times what Jones does. Every college basketball guide predicted UND 8th or 9th. Grand Forks plus a below average facilities not a magnet for prospects. UND a tough D1 Gig.

I hear that Coach K and John Calipari as well as tons of others are chomping at the bit to take over the UND basketball program . They all want to be the lowest paid D1 Head coach in the Country with the lowest paid assistant coaches not to mention having the pleasure of residing in one of the coldest cities in one of the lowest D1 talent producing states in the USA

UND has played relatively well first 2 games ...very easily covering the pointspread both games. They are a even bet in Vegas tonight . Not sure why Shields did not red shirt.
