  1. UND keeps it close the first 15 minutes..........NDSU stretches it to a 8-10 point lead at half.  UND "just balls" in 2nd half..........NDSU wins by 20+.

I'm pretty sure gfhockey has never been more correct on here than his analysis of the Jones "just ball" offense. Makes me giggle too.

I have always called it the "noonball" offense, but I guess I have to yield and "hail" on this one.

They actually run an offense, that is generally ineffective (swing the ball around and wait for someone to see lane and attack).  Then when that breaks down, it becomes a ball screen offense, again usually ineffective because teams have multiple defenders in the paint waiting. This would be a good option with the guards we have, but their is no backside action to help pull defenders out.  Need the shooters hitting from deep to make that offense work.  Here's to good luck tonite! Someone have one for me at the"Cantina," wish I could make it there.

  2. If they get embarrassed tonight, I wonder who Jones is going to deflect blame on.  Then I predict another thread is going to blow up! (Just call me Carnac - for the young ones Google Carnac the Magnificent)

  3. Bernstine? Or maybe Collins?

Add Cashman and Avants, even Richman.  But that would require coaching ;)

I would like to see Collins defend that position more, he did well in HS.  Body to bang with and athleticism to get up.  This game is probably going to be big man by committee, but how many guys is Coach Jones  going to try.  If Shanks still isn't feeling right, he has to have quick leash.  If he is feeling better, he should recall last years game and do all he can to show UND has a post player too.

  4. So the Junior Athletic Directors are pretty quiet. I'm not saying that beating Bradley was a great accomplishment - it was a nice road win and we saw some new faces step up and show their talent. According to the play-by-play we got hosed in several key calls, had some really stupid plays by young players and still pulled it out - not sure how you blame the coach for a player getting a technical or a guy jumping in the lane too early on a cruicial free throw but some will find a way.

I will stand on my soapbox again and say that the "Fire the Coach" threads do nothing to support or improve the program. But as gets shared here quite often - it's a free country, I don't have to read here, I'm accepting mediocrity so as the old Budweiser commercials used to say "Carry on Junior Athletic Directors, you are the ones that sit in your armchair, never played the game yet have the unique skills to know what every coach should have done after the fact..this Bud's for you!"

It was a road win, and with this young group, we'll take it and be happy. No reason to rip into Coach Jones, even when there are instances you could point out that were questionable decisions (i.e. substitutions, or lack thereof. OB plays not changing).  But, they made a change defensively that helped them get a ROAD WIN.  Let them enjoy the win, I am betting there will be plenty more opportunities to post about firing Coach Jones.

Regarding this thread does nothing to support or improve the program.  I would argue to the contrary.  It is typical for the "fanatics", and die-hard fans to be the most vocal and generally lead these discussions.  When there is enough support for a change, admins usually listen.  I will say again, the admin is aware of the situation and I am optimistic that it will be dealt with at the end of the season.

  5. Nice to hear the team gutted it out and got a good road win, but from what I gather, UND will have to play a lot better to hang with NDSU on Friday.

Hope UND's play is worth the price of admission for the NDSU matchup; I have my doubts.

I am not holding my breath.  If they can keep this defensive intensity up, great, but going to need better O.  Shouldn't be that difficult to get it

  6. yeah we did everything we could to give them a chance....in the last minute, fouled them on a drive for a three point play opportunity, then let them get the rebound on the missed free throw.....then 5 seconds later foul a guy taking a three.  we're lucky he missed two of three.   and to top it off, we go 2 for 6 on free throws in the last minute.   why bernstine is out there in that type of end of game situation with a lead, I have no idea.

Because your other options are Cashman, Shanks, or Collins.  Frankly, I would have liked to see Collins out there in the game, he brings high energy too defensively.  And with the bigs in foul trouble, would have been useful if for only a few minutes.

  7. I agree that's a tough situation to call it.   but in regulation they had no problem calling one on  Baldwin for the little brush from behind on that rebound with 20+ seconds left.

Yeah I hear you. That's the problem with the new rules.  They want the refs to call that bump more, but then they are also told not to decide the game in final seconds if they can avoid it
